Promotive action of 2-acetylaminofluorene on hepatic precancerous lesions initiated by diethylnitrosamine in rats:Molecular study

BACkGROUND Diethylnitrosamine(DEN)induces hepatic neoplastic lesions over a prolonged *** To investigate the promotive action of 2-acetylaminofluorene(2-AAF)when combined with DEN in order to develop a rat model for induction of precancerous lesion and investigate the molecular mechanism underlying the activity of *** The pre-precancerous lesions were initiated by intraperitoneal injection of DEN for three weeks consecutively,followed by one intraperitoneal injection of 2-AAF at three different doses(100,200 and 300 mg/kg).Rats were separated into naïve,DEN,DEN+100 mg 2-AAF,DEN+200 mg 2-AAF,and DEN+300 mg 2-AAF *** were sacrificed after 10 wk and 16 *** functions,level of alpha-fetoprotein,glutathione S-transferase-P and proliferating cell nuclear antigen staining of liver tissues were *** mRNA level of RAB11A,BAX,p53,and Cyclin E and epigenetic regulation by long-noncoding RNA(lncRNA)RP11-513I15.6,miR-1262(microRNA),and miR-1298 were assessed in the sera and liver tissues of the *** 2-AAF administration significantly increased the percent area of the precancerous foci and cell proliferation along with a significant decrease in RAB11A,BAX,and p53 mRNA,and the increase in Cyclin E mRNA was associated with a marked decrease in lncRNA RP11-513I15.6 expression with a significant increase in both miR-1262 and *** 2-AFF promoted hepatic precancerous lesions initiated through DEN by decreasing autophagy,apoptosis,and tumor suppression genes,along with increased cell proliferation,in a time-and dose-dependent *** actions were mediated under the epigenetic regulation of lncRNA RP11-513I15.6/miR-1262/miR-1298.

Physicians’ Attitude toward the Use of Metformin Prior to Clomiphene Citrate in Infertile Women with PCOS in Saudi Arabia

The goal of this study is to assess the different approaches gynecologists take while treating women with PCOS related infertility. Methodology: This is a quantitative cross-sectional study that involves 46 specialists and consultants from all over the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The sample size was calculated based on the number of consultants and specialists members in the Saudi Obstetrical & Gynecology society “SOGS”, we could not find any statistics on how many Ob/Gyne doctors we have in Saudi Arabia. The paper is approved by the Unit of Biomedical Ethics, king Abdulaziz University. The research team prepared an online survey of 13 questions, sent to all Consultants and Specialists in the “SOGS” during the year of 2016. The SPSS was used for the analysis. Conclusion: There is no significant difference between the different approaches of the first line of management. Comparing between Metformin and Clomiphene Citrate, Thirty Seven percent of participants preferred to start by a combination while 32% preferred to start with the former and 30.4% with the latter. Most of the doctors preferred to use Metformin for the Obese patients 76.1%, a lower percentage prefers to use it with Overweight patients 54.3%.

BACkGROUND Pancreatic cystic lesions(PCLs) are common in clinical practice. The accurate classification and diagnosis of these lesions are crucial to avoid unnecessary treatment of benign lesions and missed opportunities for early treatment of potentially malignant *** To evaluate the role of cyst fluid analysis of different tumor markers such as cancer antigens [e.g., cancer antigen(CA)19-9, CA72-4], carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA), serine protease inhibitor kazal-type 1(SPINk1), interleukin 1 beta(IL1-β), vascular endothelial growth factor A(VEGF-A), and prostaglandin E2(PGE2)], amylase, and mucin stain in diagnosing pancreatic cysts and differentiating malignant from benign *** This study included 76 patients diagnosed with PCLs using different imaging modalities. All patients underwent endoscopic ultrasound(EUS) and EUS-fine needle aspiration(EUS-FNA) for characterization and sampling of different *** The mean age of studied patients was 47.4 ± 11.4 years, with a slight female predominance(59.2%). Mucin stain showed high statistical significance in predicting malignancy with a sensitivity of 87.1% and specificity of 95.56%.
