A Local Macroscopic Conservative(LoMaC)Low Rank Tensor Method with the Discontinuous Galerkin Method for the Vlasov Dynamics

In this paper,we propose a novel Local Macroscopic Conservative(LoMaC)low rank tensor method with discontinuous Galerkin(DG)discretization for the physical and phase spaces for simulating the Vlasov-Poisson(VP)system.The LoMaC property refers to the exact local conservation of macroscopic mass,momentum,and energy at the discrete level.The recently developed LoMaC low rank tensor algorithm(arXiv:2207.00518)simultaneously evolves the macroscopic conservation laws of mass,momentum,and energy using the kinetic flux vector splitting;then the LoMaC property is realized by projecting the low rank kinetic solution onto a subspace that shares the same macroscopic observables.This paper is a generalization of our previous work,but with DG discretization to take advantage of its compactness and flexibility in handling boundary conditions and its superior accuracy in the long term.The algorithm is developed in a similar fashion as that for a finite difference scheme,by observing that the DG method can be viewed equivalently in a nodal fashion.With the nodal DG method,assuming a tensorized computational grid,one will be able to(i)derive differentiation matrices for different nodal points based on a DG upwind discretization of transport terms,and(ii)define a weighted inner product space based on the nodal DG grid points.The algorithm can be extended to the high dimensional problems by hierarchical Tucker(HT)decomposition of solution tensors and a corresponding conservative projection algorithm.In a similar spirit,the algorithm can be extended to DG methods on nodal points of an unstructured mesh,or to other types of discretization,e.g.,the spectral method in velocity direction.Extensive numerical results are performed to showcase the efficacy of the method.

A novel paradigm for feedback control in LPBF:layer-wise correction for overhang structures

In laser powder bed fusion(LPBF),it is common practice to select process parameters to achieve high density parts starting from simple geometries such as cubes or cylinders.However,additive manufacturing is usually adopted to producevery complex geometries,where parameters should be tuned locally,depending on the local features to be processed.In fact,geometrical features,such as overhangs,acute corners,and thin walls may lead to over-or under-heating conditions,which may result in geometrical inaccuracy,high roughness,volumetric errors(i.e.,porosity)oreven job failure due to surfacecollapse.This work proposes a layer-wise control strategy to improve the geometrical precision of overhanging regions using a coaxial melt pool monitoring system.The meltpool images acquired at each layer are used in a controlloop toadapt theprocess parameters locally at the next layer in order to minimize surface defects.In particular,the laser duty cycle is used as a controllable parameterto correct the energy density.This work presents the main architecture of the proposed approach,the control strategy and the experimental procedure that need to be applied to design the control parameters.The layer-wise control strategy was tested on AISI 316L stainless steel using an open LPFB platform.The results showed that the proposed layer-wise control solution results in a constant melt pool observed via the laser heated area size starting from the second layer onward,leading to a significant improvement in the geometrical accuracy of 5 mm-long bridge geometries.

2024年2月9日,欧洲药品管理局(ema.的药物警戒风险评估委员会(PRAC)发布信息提示医务人员,奈玛特韦片/利托那韦片组合包装(商品名:Paxlovid)与某些安全剂量范围较窄(剂量的微小变化可能导致严重不良反应)的免疫抑制剂合并使用时,有发生严重和潜在致死性不良反应的风险,因为药物相互作用导致人体消除这些药物的能力降低。Paxlovid用于治疗伴有进展为重症高风险因素且不需要吸氧的新冠病毒感染的成人患者。相关的免疫抑制剂包括钙调神经磷酸酶抑制剂(他克莫司、环孢素)和mTOR抑制剂(依维莫司、西罗莫司),上述药物可降低免疫系统活性,常用于治疗某些自身免疫性疾病或防止移植器官排斥。

Integrating sema.tic features in fruit recognition based on perceptual color and sema.tic template

Many fruit recognition works have applied statistical approaches to make an exact correlation between low-level visual feature information and high-level sema.tic concepts givenby predefined text caption or keywords. Two common fruit recognition models include bagof-features (BoF) and convolutional neural network (ConvNet), which achieve highperformance results. In most cases, the overfitting problem is unavoidable. This problemmakes it difficult to generalize new instances with only a slightly different appearance,although belonging to the same category. This article proposes a new fruit recognitionmodel by associating an object’s low-level features in an image with a high-level concept.We define a perceptual color for each fruit species to construct a relationship between fruitcolor and sema.tic color name. Furthermore, we develop our model by integrating the perceptual color and sema.tic template concept to solve the overfitting problem. The sema.tic template concept as a mapping between the high-level concept and the low-level visualfeature is adopted in this model. The experiment was conducted on three different fruitimage datasets, with one dataset as train data and the two others as test data. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model, called perceptual color on sema.tictemplate (PCoST), is significantly better than the BoF and ConvNet models in reducing theoverfitting problem.

Ex vivo expansion of hema.opoietic stem cells(HSCs)is considered the holy grail in stem cell biology and therapy,as it has long been difficult to make this procedure possible.Yamazaki’s research team has established new,polyvinyl alcohol-based culture conditions and shown a significant expansion of mouse HSCs from a small number of cells after a month of culture.Surprisingly,expanded HSCs were able to reconstitute unconditioned normal mice.There is generally a technical concern in limiting dilution assay to estimate a fold-expansion of HSCs.But,this work paves the way toward expansion of human HSCs useful for transplantation medicine.

Efficacy and sustainability of dialectical behaviour therapy for inpatient adolescents:a follow-up study

Background Dialectical behaviour therapy(DBT)is an evidence-based treatment for adolescents targeting suicidal and non-suicidal self-injurious behaviours.Research supports DBT’s efficacy in inpatient settings,but implementation and sustainability are understudied.Aims This study is a follow-up of a previous study by Tebbett-Mock et al and examines the efficacy and sustainability of an adolescent DBT inpatient unit within a psychiatric hospital in the Northeast.We hypothesised that adolescents who received DBT in our follow-up group(DBT Group 2)would not have statistical difference(ie,greater or fewer)of the following compared with the first group of patients who received DBT on the unit the year prior(DBT Group 1)and would have significantly fewer of the following compared with the treatment as usual(TAU)group:(1)constant observation hours for suicidal ideation,self-injury and aggression;(2)incidents of suicide attempts,self-injury and aggression;(3)restraints;(4)seclusions;(5)days hospitalised;(6)times readmitted to the unit within 30 days of discharge.Methods We conducted a retrospective chart review for adolescents receiving inpatient DBT(DBT Group 1,n=425;DBT Group 2,n=393)and a historical control group(TAU,n=376).The χ^(2) tests and one-way analysis of variance were conducted as preliminary analyses to examine group differences on diagnosis,gender and age.Kruskal-Wallis H tests were conducted to examine group differences on outcomes.Mann-Whitney U tests were used as post hoc analyses.Results Patients in DBT Group 2 were comparable to DBT Group 1 for the number of constant observation hours for self-injury(U=83432.50,p=0.901),restraints(U=82109,p=0.171)and days hospitalised(U=83438.5,p=0.956).Patients in DBT Group 2 had a significantly greater number of incidents of suicide attempts compared with DBT Group 1(U=82662.5,p=0.037)and of self-injury compared with patients in DBT Group 1(U=71724.5,p<0.001)and TAU(U=65649.0,p<0.001).Conclusions Results provide support for adolescent inpatient DBT compared with TAU a

Nonlinear Dynamics in a Nonextensive Complex Plasma with Viscous Electron Fluids

Cylindrical and spherical dust-electron-acoustic （DEA） shock waves and double layers in an unmagnetized, col- lisionless, complex or dusty plasma system are carried out. The plasma system is assumed to be composed of inertial and viscous cold electron fluids, nonextensive distributed hot electrons, Maxwellian ions, and negatively charged stationary dust grains. The standard reductive perturbation technique is used to derive the nonlinear dynamical equations, that is, the nonplanar Burgers equation and the nonplanar further Burgers equation. They are also numerically analyzed to investigate the basic features of shock waves and double layers （DLs）. It is observed that the roles of the viscous cold electron fluids, nonextensivity of hot electrons, and other plasma parameters in this investigation have significantly modified the basic features （such as, polarity, amplitude and width） of the nonplanar DEA shock waves and DLs. It is also observed that the strength of the shock is maximal for the spherical geometry, intermediate for cylindrical geometry, while it is minimal for the planar geometry. The findings of our results obtained from this theoretical investigation may be useful in understanding the nonlinear phenomena associated with the nonplanar DEA waves in both space and laboratory plasmas.

New era of electrochemotherapy in treatment of liver tumors in conjunction with immunotherapies

Electrochemotherapy is a local ablative therapy that increases the cytotoxicity of either bleomycin or cisplatin by applying electric pulses(electroporation)to tumors.It has already been widely used throughout Europe for the treatment of various types of human and veterinary cutaneous tumors,with an objective response rate ranging from 70%-90%,depending on the tumor histotype.Recently,electrochemotherapy was introduced for the treatment of primary liver tumors,such as hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).The complete response rate was 85%per treated lesion,with a durable response.Therefore,electrochemotherapy could become a treatment of choice for HCC,especially after achieving a transition from an open surgery approach to a percutaneous approach that uses dedicated electrodes.Electrochemotherapy elicits a local immune response and can be considered an in situ vaccination.HCC,among others,is a potentially immunogenic tumor;thus,electrochemotherapy could boost adjuvant immunotherapy to achieve a better and longer-lasting antitumor response.Therefore,therapeutic strategies that combine electrochemotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors or adjuvant treatment with cytokines are indicated for HCC.Immunogene therapy using electroporation as a delivery system for plasmid DNA coding for interleukin-12 is a highly promising approach.This electroporation approach has shown efficacy in preclinical settings and veterinary oncology and is awaiting translation for the treatment of liver tumors,i.e.,HCC.
