f.nctionalization of.AuMSS nanorods towards more ef.ective cancer therapies

The applicatio n of.nano particles as selective drug delivery platf.rms arises as one the most promising therapeutic strategies in the biomedical f.eld. Such systems can encapsulate drugs, prevent its premature degradation, transport and promote the drugs specif.c delivery to the target site. Among the dif.erent nanostructures, gold-core mesoporous silica shell (AuMSS) nanorods have been one of.the most explored due to their unique physical and chemical properties. The mesoporous silica biocompatibility, high surf.ce area that can be easily f.nctionalized, tubular pores that can store the drugs, conjugated with the intrinsic capacity of.gold nanorod to absorb near-inf.ared radiation, allows the combination of.hyperthermia (i.e., photothermal ef.ect) with drug delivery, making them a nanoplatf.rms with a huge potential f.r cancer therapy. Nevertheless, the successf.l applicati on of.AuMSS nanoparticles as an ef.ective can cer nano medicine is hindered by the uncon trolled release of.the therapeutic payloads, limited blood circulation time and unf.vorable pharmacokinetics. In this review, an overview of.the modif.cati ons perf.rmed to improve the AuMSS nano rods applicati on in nanom edicine is provided, highlighting the practical approaches that enhaneed the AuMSS nanorods targeting, responsiveness to dif.erent stimuli, and blood circulation time. f.rther, the basics of.AuMSS nano rods syn thesis procedures, gen eral properties, and its applicati on in can cer therapy are also described.

AIM: To establish the extent to which contrast enhancement with SonoVue in combination with quantitative evaluation of.contrast-medium dynamics f.cilitates the detection of.hepatic tumors. METHODS: One hundred patients with histologically conf.rmed malignant or benign hepatic tumor (maximum size 5 cm) were analyzed. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (bolus injection 2.5 mL SonoVue) was carried out with intermittent breath-holding technique using a multif.equency transducer (2.5-4 MHz). Native vascularization was analyzed with power Doppler. The contrast-enhanced dynamic ultrasound investigation was carried out with contrast harmonic imaging in true detection mode during the arterial,portal venous and late phases. Mechanical index was set at 0.15. Perf.sion analysis was perf.rmed by post-processing of.the raw data time intensity curve (TIC) analysis. The cut-of. of.the gray value dif.erences between tumor and normal liver tissue was established using Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis 64-line multi-slice computed tomography served as ref.rence method in all cases. Magnetic resonance tomography was used additionally in 19 cases. RESULTS: One hundred patients with 59 malignant (43 colon,5 breast,2 endocrine metastases,7 hepatocellular carcinomas and 2 kidney cancers) and 41 benign (15 hemangiomas,7 f.cal nodular hyperplasias,5 complicated cysts,2 abscesses and 12 circumscribed f.tty changes) tumors were included. The late venous phase proved to be the most sensitive f.r classif.cation of.the tumor type. f.f.y-eight of.the 59 malignant tumors were classif.ed as true positive,and one as f.lse negative. This resulted in a sensitivity of.98.3%. Of.the 41 benign tumors,37 were classif.ed as true negative and 4 as f.lse negative,which corresponds to a specif.city of.90.2%. Immobilization devices may be a valuable aid to ensure the improved ef.ectiveness of.radiotherapy treatments where constraining the movements of.specif.c anatomical segments is crucial. This need is also present in other situations, specif.cally when the superposition of.various medical images is required f.r f.ne identif.cation and characterization of.some pathologies. Because of.their structural characteristics, existing head immobilization systems may be claustrophobic and very uncomf.rtable f.r patients, during both the modeling and usage stages. Because of.this, it is important to minimize all the discomf.rts related to the mask to alleviate patients’ distress and to simultaneously guarantee and maximize the restraint ef.ectiveness of.the mask. In the present work, various head immobilization mask models are proposed based on geometrical inf.rmation extracted f.om computerized tomography images and f.om 3D laser scanning point clouds. These models also consider the corresponding connection to a radiotherapy table, as this connection is easily altered to accommodate various manuf.cturers’ solutions. A set of.materials used in the radiotherapy f.eld is considered to allow the assessment of.the stif.ness and strength of.the masks when submitted to typical loadings.

Objective:To ascertain the socio-cultural f.ctors inf.uencing the rate of.utilization of.insecticide treated bed nets(ITNs) in a malaria endemic city of.Makurdi,north central Nigeria. Body awareness therapy: A new strategy f.r relief.of.symptoms in irritable bowel syndrome patients

AIM: To compare irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) pa- tients with apparently healthy persons and to evaluate body awareness therapy, which is a physiotherapeutic remedy f.cusing on normalising tensions in the body, f.r the treatment of.IBS with the hypothesis that altered body tension is associated with the syndrome. METHODS: Twenty-one IBS patients received body awareness therapy two hours weekly f.r 24 wk. At base- line as well as af.er 12 and 24 wk, they underwent ex- aminations including resource oriented body examination in combination with body awareness scale evaluation and f.illed in gastrointestinal and psychological symptom questionnaires. Saliva cortisol was analysed. A group of.21 apparently healthy persons underwent the same ex- aminations once. RESULTS: Compared to the apparently healthy group, IBS patients scored higher at baseline f.r gastrointestinal and psychological symptoms. They showed more of.en alterations in normal body tension patterns, as well as deviating cortisol slopes in saliva. Af.er 24 wk of.body awareness therapy, their gastrointestinal and psychologi- cal symptoms were reduced overall. Somatic symptoms decreased in parallel with depressive symptoms. Whole body pain score decreased, coping ability as well as bio- chemical stress markers improved. CONCLUSION: IBS patients scored higher f.r gastroin- testinal and psychological symptoms, and presented with altered biochemical stress markers. Their body tension deviated compared to healthy controls. f.rthermore,body awareness therapy gave relief.of.both somatic com- plaints, psychological symptoms and normalised body tension. These f.ndings indicate that distorted tension constitutes an important part of.the symptoms in IBS.

Phase stability of.f.ur dif.erent chemical component f.-Cr-Mn(W, V) alloys are investigated by experimental method and thermodynamic model in this paper. It is indicated that the main phase of.f.ur alloys af.er aged under 623, 673, 773K f.r 200h are austenitic phase. The results of.Thermo-Calc, which are based on Gibbs energy, show that the phases of.f.ur alloys under ihe same temperature as experimental method are single austenitic phase. The results of.experimental method and Thermo-Calc agree well.

Here we present new data on the major and trace element compositions of.silicate and oxide minerals f.om mantle xenoliths brought to the surf.ce by the Carolina kimberlite,Pimenta Bueno Kimberlitic f.eld,which is located on the southwestern border of.the Amazonian *** also present Sr-Nd isotopic data of.garnet xenocrysts and whole-rocks f.om the Carolina *** xenoliths are mainly clinopyroxenites and *** of.the clinopyroxenites were classif.ed as GPP–PP–PKP(garnet-phlogopite peridotite,phlogopite-peridotite,phlogopite-K-richterite peridotite)suites,and two clinopyroxenites(eclogites)and two garnetites are relicts of.an ancient subducted *** and pressure estimates yield 855–1102℃ and 3.6–7.0 GPa,*** are enriched in light rare earth elements(LREE)(La_(N)/Yb_(N)=5–62;Ce_(N)/Sm_(N)=1–3;where N=primitive mantle normalized values),they have high Ca/Al ratios(10–410),low to medium Ti/Eu ratios(742–2840),and low Zr/Hf.ratios(13–26),which suggest they were f.rmed by metasomatic reactions with CO_(2)-rich silicate *** with high TiO_(2)(>2.0 wt.%),Al_(2)O_(3)(>12.0 wt.%),and f.Ot(5.0–13.0 wt.%)resemble those f.und in the groundmass of.kimberlites,lamproites and ***,phlogopite with low TiO_(2)(f.xenoliths,together with the clinopyroxene and phlogopite major and trace element signatures suggests that an intense proto-kimberlite melt metasomatism occurred in the deep cratonic lithosphere beneath the Amazonian *** Sr-Nd isotopic ratios of.pyrope xenocrysts(G3,G9 and G11)f.om the Carolina kimberlite are characterized by high ^(143)Nd/^(144)Nd(0.51287–0.51371)and eNd(+4.55 to+20.85)accompanied with enriched ^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr(0.70405–0.71098).These results suggest intera

Nonlinear Conf.rmal Electromagnetism

In 1909 the brothers E. and f. Cosserat discovered a new nonlinear group theoretical approach to elasticity (EL), with the only experimental need to measure the EL constants. In a modern language, their idea has been to use the nonlinear Spencer sequence instead of.the nonlinear Janet sequence f.r the Lie groupoid def.ning the group of.rigid motions of.space. f.llowing H. Weyl, our purpose is to compute f.r the f.rst time the nonlinear Spencer sequence f.r the Lie groupoid def.ning the conf.rmal group of.space-time in order to provide the mathematical f.undations of.electromagnetism (em), with the only experimental need to measure the em constant in vacuum. With a manif.ld of.dimension n, the dif.iculty is to deal with the n nonlinear transf.rmations that have been called “elations” by E. Cartan in 1922. Using the f.ct that dimension n=4 has very specif.c properties f.r the computation of.the Spencer cohomology, we prove that there is thus no conceptual dif.erence between the Cosserat EL f.eld or induction equations and the Maxwell em f.eld or induction equations. As a byproduct, the well known f.eld/matter couplings (piezzoelectricity, photoelasticity, streaming biref.ingence, …) can be described abstractly, with the only experimental need to measure the corresponding coupling constants. The main consequence of.this paper is the need to revisit the mathematical f.undations of.gauge theory (GT) because we have proved that em was depending on the conf.rmal group and not on U(1), with a shif. by one step to the lef. in the physical interpretation of.the dif.erential sequence involved.

As f.r gravitation, the dimension n = 4 also allows to have a conf.rmal f.ctor def.ned everywhere but at the central attractive mass because the inversion law of.the isotropy subgroupoid made by second order jets transf.rms attraction into repulsion. The mathematical f.undations of.both electromagnetism and gravitation are thus only depending on the structure of.the conf.rmal pseudogroup of.space-time.

Aims Understanding the f.ctors that control biodiversity distributions at dif.erent spatial scales has been a key challenge f.r conservation *** biodiversity,ref.ected in dif.erences in species compositions among sites(beta diversity),can be derived f.om species replacement(turnover)and is driven by multiple ***,we sought to tackle this issue through two questions related to threatened Brazilian seasonally dry f.rests:(i)what is the contribution of.species turnover to beta diversity?and(ii)which f.ctors drive variations in species compositions among f.rest patches?Methods We sampled tree species and environmental variables(soils and climate)in 17 dry f.rest patches spaced almost 300 km *** used the beta diversity partitioning f.amework to determine the contribution of.*** used redundancy analysis,with properly controlled spatial structure,to assess the contributions of.the environmental and spatial f.ctors to the variations of.the species *** f.ndings Beta diversity among the patches was mainly represented by the turnover component(98.2%),with Simpson dissimilarity superior to other regions of.the country(means of.0.89 and 0.71 in multiple site and pairwise measures,respectively).The environmental f.ctors measured explained more than space,representing 30.3%of.the variation of.the species composition,of.which 28.1%was nonspatially *** suggest that 300 km represents a threshold at which edaphic and climatic predictors have similar ef.ects in determining community turnover(14.9%and 12.6%,respectively,without spatial structure).Thus,conservation strategies should be considered across landscapes to ef.ectively protect tropical f.rest diversity,as even considering the dif.erent climatic aspects covered by the scale,landscaped edaphic varieties are important drivers of.species turnover.
