作者: S. d. Liao (department of Mathematics and Mechanics) We do not know very much about the minimum dimension of an Euclidean space em in which the w-dimensional protective space Pn can be imbedded. PI. hopf proved that Pn cannot be imbedded in En+1(n≥2). S. S. Chern showed that Pn cannot be diffeientiably imbedded in En+2, if n≠2k-1 (k≥2) and n≠2k-2 (k≥2). See that Pn cannot be imbedded in E2x+- -1 where n=2α+s, 0≤s<2α however, this result gives no infcnnation in the two exceptional cases of Chern’s theorem.
