The rate of elapsed polymerization of polyhydroxyethylacrylate in gelatin has been studied to investigate the effect of co-monomers consumption at a given dose. The polymer gel dosimeters consisted of 2%～4% N,N-methyelene-bis-acrylamide cross-linker,2%～4% 2-hydroxyethylacrylate monomer and gelatin at 3% and 5%. The dosimeters were irradiated by using 60Co teletherapy γ-ray source up to 20 Gy at a constant dose rate. The relaxation rate of water proton in the dosimeters at different doses and co-monomer concentrations were measured using a nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The rate of elapsed polymerization decreases with increasing the dose and the initial concentration of co-monomers. The rate of consumption of co-monomers increases with an increase of the polymerization and the gelatin content of the polymer gel.

Higher education plays an important role in all aspects of *** climate change and sustainability into the curriculum is important to prepare future health-care professionals for climate change and sustainability actions to build resilient health *** this study,we evaluated the preparedness,knowledge,and perception regarding climate change and its impact on human health among Indian nursing students.A quantitative descriptive survey was conducted among 644 undergraduate nursing students studying in three institutes in the southern,northern,and western parts of *** used a structured online questionnaire with established validity and reliability to collect *** data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 26 *** results showed that more than half of the students reported experiencing excessive increase(362;56.2%)and decrease(374;58.1%)in temperature in recent *** more than three quarters of the students(494;76.7%)accepted the general truth that climate change is mainly caused by human activities,only less than half of the students(309;48.0%)perceived the impact of climate change to be *** quarters of the students(483;75.0%)had a high level of knowledge regarding climate *** students who had a high level of knowledge about climate change exerted a high perceived impact of climate change(χ^(2)=75.47;P<0.01).More than half of the students(50.9%)felt that they needed information about climate change to be included in the nursing curriculum,and only one sixth of the students(16.1%)were highly confident about engaging in climate change-related conversation with *** of the students who participated in the study had basic knowledge about climate change and its impact on human ***,there is an observed gap between knowledge and their preparedness and confidence to engage in climate change ***,we propose to strengthen the nursing curriculum by integra

This paper presents the investigation of solar induced ventilation that utilizes roof solar collector and vertical stack. Three prototypes, namely A, B and C, were developed based on preliminary experimental work. They were then used in simulation study with the objective of determining the prototype that was able to induce the highest mass flow rate. The validation of simulation modelling against experiment indicated a good agreement between these two results. The findings showed that prototype A induced the highest mass flow rate. However, prototype C, which had obstructions at the stack outlets, was more appropriate for application in Malaysia due to various prevailing wind directions. In addition, the findings also indicated that besides solar radiation, the mass flow rate induced by the prototypes was also influenced by the local wind direction, the inlet and outlet positions as well as the outlet design. In summary, the findings highlighted the potential application of the proposed solar induced ventilation in a hot and humid climate.

The technique of modeling operating temperature variations of shell-and-tube heat exchanger 10-E-01 of kerosene-crude oil streams of Port Harcourt refinery crude distillation unit is presented in this research. Appropriate first-order model equations were developed applying principles of energy balance. The differential equations developed for the process streams which exchanged heat was evaluated numerically to predict the temperature variations as a function of time. The relevant parameters associated with typical heat exchanger works were calculated using plant data of 10-E-02. The model strives to predict the final kerosene temperature from 488 to 353.6 K. While the crude oil streams temperature rose from 313 to 353.6 K. The developed model enables the operator to predict the final temperature at the kerosene hydro-treating unit and thereby prevent regular emergency shutdowns due to excessive temperature rise.

The Damaging Effects of Abstracting the Deep Aquifers’Groundwater in Jordan-Quality Constraints

The deep aquifers in Jordan contain non-renewable and fossil groundwater and their extraction is quasi a mining process, which ends in the depletion of these resources. Although aquifers in the majority of groundwater basins in Jordan are vertically and horizontally interconnected stratification in different water quality horizons with generally increasing water salinity with the depth is observed. Many officials and planners advocate the extraction of deep salty and brackish water to be desalinated and used in household, industrial, and agricultural uses. In this article, the quality of the groundwater in the different deep aquifers and areas in Jordan is discussed. The results of this study show that the consequences of the deep groundwater exploitation are not restricted to depletion of the deep aquifers but also that the overlying fresh groundwater will, due to vertical and horizontal interconnectedness of the different aquifers, percolate down to replace the extracted deep groundwater. This will cause the down-percolating fresh groundwater to become salinized in the deep saline aquifers, which means that extracting the deep brackish and saline groundwater is not only an emptying process of the deep groundwater but also it is an emptying process of the fresh groundwater overlying them. The results allow to conclude that any extraction of the deep groundwater in areas lying to the north of Ras en Naqab Escarpment will have damaging impacts on the fresh groundwater in the overlying fresh groundwater aquifers. This article strongly advises not to extract the deep brackish and saline groundwater, but to conserve that groundwater as a base supporting the overlying fresh groundwater resources, and that will help in protecting the thermal mineralized water springs used in spas originating from these deep aquifers. AIM:To investigate the relationship between sense of coherence,psychological distress and health related quality of life in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODS:This cross-sectional study enrolled a consecutive sample of 147 IBD(aged 45.1 ± 14.1 years; 57.1% female) patients recruited from a tertiary gastroenterology ***-four participants met diagnostic criteria for Crohn's disease,while eightythree patients had ulcerative ***-demographic data(education,age,race,gender,gross monthly income and marital status),disease-related variables(illness activity,relapse rate in past 2 years,history of surgery and time since diagnosis),sense of coherence(Antonovsky's SOC scale),psychological distress symptoms(Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale) and health-related quality of life(HRQo L; WHOQOLBref) were *** multiple regression analyses were performed to identify factors that are independently associated with psychological distress and HRQo L in patients with IBD and to provide indications for possible moderating or mediating *** addition,formal moderation and mediation analyses(Sobel tests) were performed to confirm potential moderators/mediators of the relationship between SOC,psychological distress symptoms and ***:Lower SOC scores(std beta=-0.504; P < 0.001),female gender(std beta = 0.176; P = 0.021) and White race(std beta = 0.164; P = 0.033) were independently associated with higher levels of depressive symptoms,while lower levels of SOC(std beta =-0.438; P < 0.001) and higher relapse rate(std beta = 0.161; P = 0.033) were independently associated with more severe anxiety symptoms.A significant interaction between time since diagnosis and SOC was found with regard to the severity of depressive or anxiety symptoms,as the interaction term(time since diagnosis X SOC) had beta coefficients of-0.191(P = 0.009) and-0.172(P = 0.026),*** levels of anxiety symptoms(std beta =-0.369; P < 0.001),higher levels

Eucalyptus harvest residues are attractive energy production resources for the forestry ***,their removal can have adverse impacts on soil quality and forest productivity,especially in sandy *** this study,we assessed the effects of Eucalyptus harvest residue managements with variable intensity on forest productivity and on physical,chemical,and biological indicators of the soil *** experiment was conducted in a Quartzipsamment(33 g kg-1clay)planted with Eucalyptus saligna in Barra do Ribeiro in southern *** the Eucalyptus was planted,residues from the previous rotation were subjected to five different management treatments:(1)FRM,in which all forest residues(bark,branches,leaves,and litter)were allowed to remain on the soil and only trunk wood was removed;(2)FRMB,in which was identical to FRM except that bark was also removed;(3)FRMBr,in which only trunk wood and branches were removed;(4)FRR,which involved removing all types of residues(bark,branches,leaves,and litter);and,(5)FRRs,in which all forest residues from the previous rotation were removed,and leaves and branches from the new plantation were prevented from falling onto the soil surface using a shade *** years after planting,soil samples were collected at four different depths(0-2.5,2.5-5,5-10,and 10-20 cm)to determine 17 soil chemical,physical,and biological *** results were combined into a soil quality index(SQI)using the principal component analysis *** SQI reduced by 30%,in the 0-20 cm layer,due to removal of harvest residues from the previous rotation,and collection of litter before it falls on the *** main drivers of SQI reduction were the principal components associated with soil organic matter and biological ***,the SQI was positively linearly related to tree height at P<0.01 and to tree diameter at breast height at P=*** adverse impact on soil quality and forest productivity in our study indicates that removal
