Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glasses are promising materials for thermometers based on the fluoresc.nc. intensity ratio(FIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)c.nc.ntrations,energy transfer(ET)proc.sses suc. as optic.l reabsorption and c.oss-relaxation c.n affec. the Nd^(3+)emission,whic. has been little explored in the ***,the present work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glass(samples doped with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%)in fluoresc.nc. thermometers,in the temperature range from 299 to 371 *** results indic.te a strong dependenc. of the FIR parameters on the Nd^(3+)c.nc.ntration,due to c.anges in the emission band profiles c.used by optic.l reabsorption of the Nd^(3+)emissions and c.oss-relaxation proc.sses.A dec.ease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for samples doped with higher amounts of Nd^(3+).The maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,whic. is the highest value among the reported Nd^(3+)ions.

Empathy allows humans and other animals to share the emotional state of another, adopting that individual’s perspec.ive on a given situation. This ability is fundamental for spec.es living in groups. Helping behavior in laboratory animals has been used to study empathy. In this test, subjec.s are exposed to a c.nspec.fic.that is trapped and learn to open the c.ge to release the other animal. However, the interpretation of helping behavior as an emphatic.lly motivated ac.ion is still c.ntroversial. Here we review the studies that use the helping behavioral test proposed by Ben-Ami Bartal and c.lleagues in 2011 to better understand motivational fac.ors for this behavior. In addition, we c.mpare methodologic.l aspec.s of these studies. In c.nc.usion, helping behavior c.n be driven by empathy, but other fac.ors suc. as the desire for soc.al c.ntac. and learning c.mponents c.nnot be ruled out as motivators. In addition, studies foc.sed on evaluating neurobiologic.l mec.anisms underlying helping behavior in laboratory rodents c.n help eluc.date the fac.ors involved in releasing the trapped c.-spec.fic.

c.ral-like struc.ures of the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12),(0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.04, 0.00 ≤ y ≤ 0.02) c.mpound were synthesized using the sol-gel method. Struc.ural investigation c.rtified the YIG c.bic.c.ystal struc.ure formation, without any sec.ndary phase. It is shown that, the relatively large ionic.radius of the dopant c.tions results in an expansion of the lattic. parameter, variations in the Iona-O-Iondangle, Iona-O,Iond-O and Ionc.O bond distanc.s and dec.ease in the average c.ystallite size. Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) and Raman measurements are essential to testify the single-phase formation of YIG c.ystal struc.ure and are observed c.anges in the stretc.ing and vibrational modes, respec.ively. The morphologic.l study, energy dispersive spec.rosc.py(EDS) spec.ra and textural properties show c.rallike struc.ures, peaks assoc.ated with Pr^(3+) and Yb^(3+) atoms and the effec. of dopants on surfac. area,diameter, and pore volume, respec.ively. The optic.l analysis from diffuse reflec.anc. spec.ra witnessed an inc.ease in the optic.l gap band, a dec.ease in Urbac. energy and blue shift in the c.arge transfer,c.rrelated with the expansion of the unit c.ll due to the dopant's insertion in the YIG struc.ure. A typic.l ferrimagnetic.behavior is exhibited by the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12)c.mpound. The saturation magnetization(M_(s)), c.bic.anisotropy c.nstant(K_(1)) and c.erc.ve field(H_(c.) inc.ease with the Pr^(3+)c.tions c.ntent, as c.nsequenc. of their magnetic.nature and distribution around of Fe^(3+)ions due to the c.existenc. with the Yb^(3+). Finally, for the first time, antibac.erial tests by mean of the direc. c.ntac. method were performed for YIG c.-doped with Pr^(3+)and Yb^(3+)and it is shown that, relatively high dosages of Pr^(3+) c.tions favored the ac.ivity against S. aureus, therefore, a new biologic.l property for YIG doped with rare earths is presented.

The spatial pattern distribution of plant hormones in response to aluminum (Al) toxic.ty in roots remains to be shown. This study was performed to assess the root hormonal ac.umulation and gene expression in response to Al toxic.ty in five transgenic.miniature dwarf tomatoes c.. Mic.o-Tom (MT). MT and MT transgenic. to ac.d indole ac.tic. c.tokinin, gibberellin, absc.sic.ac.d and ethylene were c.ltivated in nutrient solutions c.ntaining different Al c.nc.ntrations. Root growth elongation was measured and c.llular damage was visualized by staining Evans’s blue. The GUS reporter gene staining tec.nique was used to visualize hormonal c.anges in MT apex root tissues. Data indic.ted that the MT is sensitive to Al that induc.d signific.nt growth inhibition and c.llular damage. Al c.nc.ntration of 27 μM was signific.ntly toxic. induc.ng root apex darkening and inhibition of root development. The qualitative evaluation of GUS reporter gene expression showed intense c.osstalk among all hormones studied, undersc.ring the c.mplexity of signaling induc.d by Al in apex roots. Results point out to a major understanding of the hormonal signaling in response to Al toxic.ty, whic. may induc. a c.ange of root growth and arc.itec.ure with growth inhibition and c.ll c.nstraints modulated by all different hormones evaluated.
