Oral candidiasis and potential risk factors among disabled and nondisabled in Al-Baha region, Saudi Arabia

BACKGROUND Oral candidiasis(OC)is an oral health disease that could influence patients’oral health quality of *** To estimate prevalence of OC among disabled and non-disabled individuals and its potential risk factors in the Al-Baha region,Saudi *** An observational cross-sectional study was carried out among 148 disabled and non-disabled *** technique of concentrated oral rinse employing the Sabouraud Dextrose Agar medium accompanied with 0.05%chloramphenicol was conducted to assess and isolate *** examination using the World Health Organization guidelines was conducted to examine participants’oral hea-lth status.A pre-designed questionnaire was also used to evaluate sociodemo-graphic,medical history,and oral hygiene habits of the studied *** Out of 148 participants(n=57,38%)had colonized *** of the studied population had visible Candida ***,Candida was found in the oral rinses without the subject presenting any lesions or issues caused by Candida(asymptomatic colonization).The most common prevalent OC among participants were Candida albicans,Candida glabrata,Candida dubliniensis,Candida krusei,Candida tropicalis,and Candida parapsilosis(n=35,61%;n=8,14%;n=6,10%;n=5,9%;n=2,4%;and n=1,2%)***,smoking,poor plaque,and gingival status were key potential risk factors that significantly associated with candida’s density and presence(P=0.001,P=0.001,P=0.01,and P=0.01)*** status had no statistically significant effect on presence and density of *** The prevalence of OC is almost third of the studied population;thus,may provoke a need to develop preventive strategies to reduce the OC rate and establish solid treatment plans.

In developed and developing countries, breast cancer is one of the leading forms of cancer affecting women alike. As a consequence of growing lifeexpectancy, increasing urbanization and embracing Western lifestyles, the highprevalence of this cancer is noted in the developed world. This paper aims todevelop a novel model that diagnoses Breast Cancer by using heterogeneous datasets. The model can work as a strong decision support system to help doctors tomake the right decision in diagnosing breast cancer patients. The proposed modelis based on three datasets to develop three sub-models. Each sub-model worksindependently. The final diagnosis decision is taken by the three sub-models independently. The power of the model comes from the diversity checks of patientsand this reduces the risk of wrong diagnosing. The model has been developedby conducting intensive experiments. Several classification algorithms were usedto select the best one in each sub-model. As the final results, the sub-modelaccuracies were 72%, 74% and 97%.

Green synthesis, antimicrobial and cytotoxic effects of silver nanoparticles mediated by Eucalyptus camaldulensis leaf extract

Objective: To investigate the environmental-friendly extracellular biosynthetic technique for the production of the silver nanoparticles(AgN Ps) by using leaf extract of Eucalyptus camaldulensis(E. camaldulensis). Methods: The NP were characterized by colour changes and the UV-visible spectroscopy. The cytotoxic effects of prepared AgN Ps was detected against four types of pathogenic bacteria, including two Gram-negative bacteria(Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli) and two Gram-positive bacteria(Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) by using agar well diffusion method. Results: A peak absorption value between 400-450 nm for the extract and the colour change to dark brown were corresponding to the plasmon absorbance of AgN Ps. On the other hand, aqueous extract of E. camaldulensis leaves could be effective against tested microorganisms which showed inhibition zones of 9.0-14.0 mm. Furthermore, biologically synthesized AgN Ps had higher ability to suppress the growth of the tested microorganisms(12.0-19.0 mm). Conclusions: Our findings indicated that extracellular synthesis of Ag NPs mediated by E. camaldulensis leaf extract had an efficient bactericidal activity against the bacterial species tested. The exact mechanism of the extracellular biosynthesis of metal NP was not well understood. Further studies are needed to highlight the biosynthesis process of AgN Ps and also to characterize the toxicity effect of these particles.

Cloud resource scheduling is gaining prominence with the increasingtrends of reliance on cloud infrastructure solutions. Numerous sets of cloudresource scheduling models were evident in the literature. Cloud resource scheduling refers to the distinct set of algorithms or programs the service providersengage to maintain the service level allocation for various resources over a virtualenvironment. The model proposed in this manuscript schedules resources of virtual machines under potential volatility aspects, which can be applied for anypriority metric chosen by the server administrators. Also, the model can be flexible for any time frame-based analysis of the load factor. The model discussed inthis manuscript relies on the Bollinger Bands tool for understanding the potentialvolatility aspects of a Virtual Machine. The experimental study of the model compared to the contemporary load balancing model called STLB (Starvation Threshold-based Load Balancing) refers to a simple and potential model that can bemore pragmatic for sustainable ways of load balancing.

Mortality and rebleeding following variceal haemorrhage in liver cirrhosis and periportal fibrosis

AIMTo investigate mortality and rebleeding rate and identify associated risk factors at 6 wk and 5 d following acute variceal haemorrhage in patients with liver cirrhosis and schistosomal periportal fibrosis. METHODSThis is a prospective study conducted during the period from March to December 2014. Patients with portal hypertension presenting with acute variceal haemorrhage secondary to either liver cirrhosis (group A) or schistosomal periportal fibroses (group B) presenting within 24 h of the onset of the bleeding were enrolled in the study and followed for a period of 6 wk. Analysis of data was done by Microsoft Excel and comparison between groups was done by Statistical Package of Social Sciences version 20 to calculate means and find the levels of statistical differences and define the mortality rates, the P value of RESULTSA total of 94 patients were enrolled in the study. Thirty-two patients (34%) had liver cirrhosis (group A) and 62 (66%) patients had periportal fibrosis (group B). Mortality: The 6-wk and 5-d mortality were 53% and 16% respectively in group A compared to 10% and 0% in group B (P value P value P value P value P value P value P value CONCLUSIONThe 6-wk and 5-d mortality and rebleeding rate were significantly higher in patients with liver cirrhosis compared to patients with schistosomal periportal fibrosis.

Pediatric otorhinolaryngology surgeries for foreign bodies: A retrospective observational study in Tamale Teaching Hospital

Objective: This present study investigated the prevalence, characteristics, and management of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) foreign body (FB) in the pediatric population of *** Design: Retrospective observational study for otorhinolaryngology surgeries from 2019 to 2022 for children aged 17 years and below at Tamale Teaching ***: A checklist created was used to collect data from the Otorhinolaryngology Surgeries records from 2019 to 2022. Chi-square and binary logistics regression analysis were done for associations. The level of statistical significance was set at ***: Two hundred and sixty-three cases were included in this study, and the mean age of the study participants was (4.3 ± 3.8) years with a minimum age of 1 month and a maximum age of 17 years. Most (65.4%) of the study participants were under-5 years. The prevalence of FB in this study was 47.9%. The majority (54.8%) of the ENT FB incidence was through ingestion. Almost half (50.8%) of the ENT FB was removed through esophagoscopy. Among the foreign bodies, the coin was the most common (44.5%). Those less than 1 year were more likely to encounter FB than those 12 years and above (adust odds ratio [AOR] = 27.7, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 4.7-164.6). Again, those of 5 to less than 12 years were more likely to encounter ENT FB than those 12 years and above (AOR = 5.7, 95% CI = 1.2-26.3).Conclusions: Foreign bodies are a common occurrence in pediatric otorhinolaryngology surgeries in Tamale Teaching Hospital. Younger children are more likely to report for otorhinolaryngology surgeries for FB in Tamale Teaching Hospital.

Carbamazepine solubility enhancement in tandem with swellable polymer osmotic pump tablet: A promising approach for extended delivery of poorly water-soluble drugs

Elementary osmotic pump(EOP)is a unique extended release(ER)drug delivery system based on the principle of *** has the ability to minimize the amount of the drug,accumulation and fluctuation in drug level during chronic ***(CBZ),a poorly water-soluble antiepileptic drug,has serious side effects on overdoses and chronic *** aim of the present study was to design a new EOP tablet of CBZ containing a solubility enhancers and swellable polymer to reduce its side effects and enhance the patient ***,a combination of solubilizing carriers was selected to improve the dissolution of the slightly soluble ***,designing the new EOP tablet and investigating the effect of different variables of core and coat formulations on drug release behavior by single parameter optimization and by Taguchi orthogonal design with analysis of variance(ANOVA),*** results showed that CBZ solubility was successfully enhanced by a minimum amount of combined polyvinyl pyrrolidone(PVP K30)and sodium lauryl sulfate(SLS).The plasticizer amount and molecular weight(MW)together with the osmotic agent amount directly affect the release rate whereas the swellable polymer amount and viscosity together with the semi-permeable membrane(SPM)thickness inversely influence the release *** addition,the tendency of following zero order kinetics was mainly affected by the coat components rather than those of the ***,orifice size does not have any significant effect on the release behavior within the range of 0.1 mm to 0.8 *** this study we report the successful formulation of CBZ-EOP tablets,which were similar to the marketed product Tegretol CR 200 and able to satisfy the USP criterion limits and to deliver about 80%of CBZ at a rate of approximately zero order for up to 12 h.

The Effect of Evotherm on Hot Mix Asphalt

There has been a paradigm shift globally from high combustion rates of all human activities that contribute to global warming. Environmental awareness has been increasing rapidly over the past years. In these regards, Evotherm, which is a Fatty-Amine derivative of the hydrocarbon chain, was investigated and used in the production of asphalt to examine the effect. The overall influence of the admixture and temperature was examined. Seven (7) Laboratory specimens with different additive contents of 0%, 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75%, 1.0%, 1.25% and 1.5% were produced and compacted at different compaction temperatures of 100°C, 115°C, 130°C, 145°C and 160°C, to evaluate Marshall Stability parameters. The binder content for the control test and admix samples were all kept constant for the range of 5.0%, 5.5%, 6.0%, 6.5% and 7% by weight of total mix for all the trial mixes for proper and uniform observation and also for the determination of the optimal mix for the control and admix samples. For each specimen mix, two (2) Marshall cylindrical samples were compacted at heavy compaction level of 75 blows, which represent heavy traffic category, and the mean result obtained for accuracy. This was done for all the temperature categories. Therefore, for this research work, 350 cylindrical cubes of Marshall Samples were evaluated in the laboratory. The result shows that despite the modification on the asphalt by the Evotherm product, the admixed asphalt exhibited similar engineering properties as Hot Mix Asphalt even at lower temperature of 115°C, and could be used as a first step in the promotion of improved carbon print from Nigerian Asphalt pavements.

Peripheral Hematological Parameters in Sudanese Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

The aim of this study is to assess the association between polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and hematological parameters [hemoglobin, red cell parameters, white blood cells (WBCs), platelets volume (MPV)]. This is a matched case-control study (60 women in each arm of the study) which was conducted in Saad Abualila infertility center Hospital in Khartoum, Sudan. Infertile women with PCOS were the cases and healthy non pregnant women were the controls. The gynecological characteristics were gathered through questionnaire and blood samples were analyzed for different blood parameters by automated hematology analyzer. While the two groups were matched in their age;body mass index was significantly higher in women with PCOs compared to the normal control. The investigated different hematological parameters (hemoglobin, RBCs, RDW, WBCs, platelets and MPV) showed no statistical difference between the women with PCOS and the controls.
