This paper presents the main results on the use of c.nventional protec.ion hardware to protec. a Half Wavelength Transmission Line, or shortly Ac.Link, for possible oc.urrenc. of three-phase and single-phase fault during energization maneuver. Lines of these dimensions do not exist today, but in c.untries of c.ntinental size they c.uld be an interesting alternative to HVDc.transmission, sinc. the Ac.Link has less dependenc. on Power Elec.ronic. tec.nology. The studies on performanc. and relay settings were implemented using the RTDS real-time simulator. It is important to note that the Ac.Link protec.ion for the energization maneuver c.n be performed with existing hardware on c.nventional relays.
