Assaying the allelopathic effects of Eucalyptus camaldulensis in a nursery bed incorporated with leaf litter

Allelopathic effects of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. were confirmed in Petri dish and pot experiments in our previous studies. However, the degree to which such effects under controlled experiments exist in more complex ecological settings remains to be tested. Thus, the present study was carried out by incorporating different proportions of ground litter of E. camaldulensis in soil. The growth of three agricultural crops: falen(Vigna unguiculata(L.) Walp.), chickpea(Cicer arietinum L.), and arhor(Cajanus cajan(L.) millsp.), and two tree species, kala koroi(Albizia procera(Roxb.) Benth.) and ipil ipil(Leucaena leucocephala(Lam.) de Wit) were tested. There were inhibitory effects of leaf litter on germination, shoot and root growth, leaf number, and collar diameter as well as a reduction of nodulation by legume crops(25–80%reduction). The extent of the effects was dependent on the proportion of leaf litter, the species and the type of traits. In contrast to shoot growth, the effect on root growth was more severe. No effect on germination was found with the agriculture crops while the two tree species showed reduced germination. The effect was greater in the presence of higher proportions of leaf litter mixed in soil while in some cases lower proportions stimulated growth. Not all species were suppressed; A. procera, C. cajan, V. unguiculata showed compatible growth while C. arietinum and *** were found incompatible. This study provides evidence that E. camaldulensis has allelopathic potential under field conditions and a careful selection of associated crops in agroforestry systems is highly recommended.

The Safaga Region(SR)is part of the Red Sea mountain range in *** flash flooding is now an inescapable event,wreaking havoc and causing massive loss of life and *** majority of the floodwater,however,has been wasted as runoff to the Red Sea,which,if used wisely,could meet a fraction of the water demands for a variety of applications in this *** current work aims to use GIS techniques to integrate remote sensing data for evaluating,mitigating,and managing flash floods in *** data set comprised Tropical Rainfall measuring mission(TRmm)thematic rainfall data,1:50,000 scale topographical map sheets,geological maps,the ASTER Digital Elevation model(ASTER GDEm),Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic mapper"(ETm7+),and Landsat 8 Operational Land *** flash flood risk model of SR is developed using ArcGIS-10.3 geoprocessing tools integrating all the causal factors thematic *** final flood risk model for the SR suggests that 57%of the total basins in the SR are at high risk of *** 38%of all basins are at moderate flood *** remaining 5%of basins are less prone to ***-prone zones were identified,suitable dam-building sites were located,and extremely probable areas for water recharge were *** the basis of reliable scientific data,structural and non-structural mitigation strategies that might reduce the damage susceptibility,alleviate the sensitivity of the flash flood,and best utilize its water supply were recommended.

This study investigates the influence of using ground palm oil fuel ash(G-POFA) from 10%-30% as cement replacement(by weight) on the cement mortar's pH under various curing conditions. These findings were supplemented by thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA). moreover, the resistance of G-POFA blended cement mortars to water absorption and sorptivity was determined. Further, the k-value test was carried out to explain the pozzolanic and filler behavior of G-POFA and to support the results obtained from TGA. It was found that there was no significant impact of several curing conditions on the pH of mortars. The mortar with 10% G-POFA in replacement of cement(G-POFA-10) exhibited the best resistance against water absorption and sorptivity.

Impact of topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in prevention of macular edema following cataract surgery in diabetic patients

AIm： To evaluate the efficacy of prophylactic administration of topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs（NSAIDs） on macular edema following cataract surgery in diabetic patients, and to compare between types of NSAIDs（ketorolac tromethamine 0.4% and nepafenac 0.1%）. mETHODS： Group 1（control） received artificial tears substitute as a placebo group, group 2（nepafenac） received topical nepafenac 0.1%, and group 3（ketorolac） received topical ketorolac tromethamine 0.4%. Patients were examined postoperatively after completing one week, one month, two months and three months＇ intervals for evaluating cystoid macular edema（CmE） development. The main study outcomes were achieving the best corrected visual acuity（BCVA） and change in the central macular thickness（CmT） measured with optical coherence topography（OCT）.RESULTS： Eighty eyes of 76 patients were included in this study. BCVA showed a statistically significant difference at the third month postoperative follow up between the control group and the NSAIDs groups（P=0.04）. There was an increase in the CmT in all cases starting from postoperative first week until third month. CmT showed a statistically significant difference between control group and NSAIDs groups from postoperative first month until third month（P=0.008, 0.027, 0.004）. There was no statistically significant difference between nepafenac and ketorolac groups in BCVA and OCT CmT. CONCLUSION： Prophylactic preoperative and postoperative NSAIDs may have a role in reducing the frequency and severity of CmE in diabetic eyes following cataract surgery.

The iron doped brushite(Fe-DCPD) nano particles were synthesized via co-precipitation method with Fe concentrations(0 ≤x≤ 1) in steps 0.2. The influence of iron concentration on the crystallinity, particle shape,morphology, optical, magnetic and electrical properties was investigated. The results showed that iron doping content is the crucial factor in the variation of physical properties. The particle shape changed from spheres at x=0.2 to be fiber network at x = 0.8. The saturation magnetization(ms) increased from 0.4(emu/g) at x = 0.2 to 1.6(emu/g) at x = 0.8 which is considered more than four times with a considerable decrease of coercive field.

Synthesis of ZnO Nanoparticles onto Sepiolite Needles and Determination of Their Sensitivity toward Humidity, NO_2 and H_2

This work investigated the sensitivity toward humidity, NO2 and H2 of ZnO modified sepiolite （Si12mg8O30（OH）4.（H2O）4.8H2O）. To this aim, sepiolite powder was first modified by leaching magnesium ions in HCI then by precipitating nano-sized Zn-based compounds under basic conditions. A subse- quent thermal treatment at 550 ℃ for 1 h was performed. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, specific surface area measurements, thermogravimetric and differential thermal anal- ysis and field emission scanning electron microscopy, as well as high resolution transmission electron microscopy. The XRD patterns showed that all leached heat treated samples were made of anhydrous sepiolite and of ZnO. Sensors were then obtained by screen printing these materials onto commercial alumina substrates with Pt electrodes. All the investigated compositions were capable of detecting NO2 down to ppm level and 20 ppm H2, at an optimal working temperature of 300°C. These detection limits are in line with the current best results reported in literature.

Unified FPGA Design for the HEVC Dequantization and Inverse Transform modules

As the newest standard,the High Efficiency Video Coding(HEVC)is specially designed to minimize the bitrate for video data transfer and to support High Definition(HD)and ULTRA HD video resolutions at the cost of increasing computational complexity relative to earlier standards like the ***,real-time video decoding with HEVC decoder becomes a challenging ***,the Dequantization and Inverse Transform(DE/IT)are one of the computationally intensive modules in the HEVC decoder which are used to reconstruct the residual ***,in this paper,a unified hardware architecture is proposed to implement the HEVC DE/IT module for all Transform Unit(TU)block size,including 4×4,8×8,16×16 and 32×*** architecture is designed using the High-Level Synthesis(HLS)and the Low-Level Synthesis(LLS)methods in order to compare and determine the best method to implement in real-time the DE/IT *** fact,the C/C++programming language is used to generate an optimized hardware design for DE/IT module through the Xilinx Vivado HLS *** the other hand,the LLS hardware architecture is designed by the VHSIC Hardware Description language(VHDL)and using the pipeline technique to decrease the processing *** experimental results on the Xilinx XC7Z020 FPGA show that the LLS design increases the throughput in term of frame rate by 80%relative to HLS design with a 4.4%increase in the number of Look-Up Tables(LUTs).Compared with existing related works in literature,the proposed architectures demonstrate significant advantages in hardware cost and performance improvement.

In continuation of research to explore the applied potential of DmF-like ionic liquid, the ionic liquid version of N,N-dimethyliminiumchloride （Vilsmier reagent） has been synthesized from DmF-like ionic liquid and tested effectively for its capacity to achieve more useful organic transformations. The results show that DmF-like ionic liquid is world＇s first task specific ionic liquid which has catalyzed numerous diverse type of reaction and is multipurpose in its application. Thus a new term for this DmF-like ionic liquid has been coined that is DmF-like ＂multipurpose＂ ionic liquid.

maximizing the Benefit of Rate Transient Analysis for Gas Condensate Reservoirs

In recent years,many trials have been made to use the Rate Transient Analysis(RTA)techniques as a method to describe the gas condensate *** problem with using these techniques is the multi-phase behavior of the gas condensate ***,the Pressure Transient Analysis(PTA)is commonly used in this case to analyze the reservoir *** this paper,we are going to compare the results of both PTA and RTA of three wells in gas condensate *** comparison showed a great match between the results of the two mentioned techniques for the first time using a reference GOR of 75,000 SCF/***,we concluded that we could depend on RTA instead of PTA to spare the cost associated with the PTA in the gas condensate reservoirs.

modification of perlite using nano-magnetic iron oxide was implemented to produce nano-magneticFe3O4-coated perlite composite(Fe3O4/Perlite).The prepared composite was characterized using Scanning Electron microscopy,Fourier-Transform Infrared spectroscopy and Powder X-ray *** potentiality of both perlite and Fe3O4/Perlite composite to eliminate Cr(VI)from the environmentally relevant water was *** influence of main factors which could affect the adsorption was studied including;pH of medium,shaking time and Cr(VI)ions *** experimental outcome demonstrated that the modification of perlite by nano-magnetic Fe3O4 showed a significantly enhanced Cr(VI)removal efficiency relative to that of unmodified *** the kinetic studies,the experimental data fitted well with the pseudo-second-order ***,it proposes that Langmuir isotherm is more adequate than the Freundlich isotherm for both perlite and modified *** results recommended that Fe3O4/Perlite composite had a great potential as an economic and efficient adsorbent of Cr(VI)from contaminated water,which has huge application potential.
