Antibacterial activity and inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus NorA efflux pump by ferulic acid and its esterified derivatives

Objective:To evaluate the inhibitory activity of ferulic acid and four of its esterified derivatives(methyl,ethyl,propyl,and butyl)against resistance mechanisms in Staphylococcus aureus ***:Ferulic acid derivatives were obtained by esterification with methanol,ethanol,propanol,and butanol,and then characterized by hydrogen and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance *** minimum inhibitory concentrations(MIC)of ferulic acid and its esterified derivatives,ethidium bromide,and norfloxacin were obtained using the microdilution test,while the efflux pump inhibition test was conducted by examining reduction in the MICs of norfloxacin and ethidium *** docking was also carried out using the Schrodinger Suite 2015 molecular modeling software.A three-dimensional model of NorA efflux pump was generated using *** best scoring model was used as a receptor for ligand-receptor ***:The methyl and butyl ester derivatives did not demonstrate significant antimicrobial ***,a significant synergic effect was evidenced when norfloxacin was combined with the ethyl and propyl esterified *** docking study demonstrated favorable energy of interaction between ferulate derivatives and NorA,and amino acid residues TYR57,TYR58,and LEU255 were present commonly in stabilizing all *** PCA analysis corroborated the docking hypothesis that the lipophilic character and hydrogen bond interactions were the most relevant characteristics involved with NorA *** pharmacokinetic parameters of ferulic acid derivatives showed good ADMET properties,demonstrating that they can be easily absorbed and have no effect or inhibit the cytochrome P450 enzyme complex,revealing their potential as drug ***:This study provides strong evidence that the molecular basis for this activity is potentially due to the NorA efflux pump.

Needle chlorosis(NC)in Pinus taeda *** in Brazil becomes more frequent after second and third harvest rotation *** a study to identify factors contributing to yellowing needle chorosis(YNC),trees were grown in soils originating from contrasting parent materials,and soils and needles(whole,green and chlorotic portions)from 1-and 2-year-old branches and the first and second needle flush release at four sites with YNC on *** were analyzed for various elements and *** soils had very low base levels(Ca^(2+),Mg^(2+)and K^(+))and P,suggesting a possible lack of multiple *** symptoms started at needle tips,then extended toward the needle base with *** flush needles had longer portions with YNC than second flush needles *** from the lower crown also had more symptoms along their length than those higher in the *** were similar to those reported for *** chlorotic portions,Mg and Ca concentrations were well below critical values;in particular,Mg levels were only one third of the critical value of 0.3 g kg^(-1).Collectively,results suggest that Mg deficiency is the primary reason for NC of *** in various parent soils in Brazil.

Inexpensive and easy-to-use diagnostic tools for fast health screening are imperative,especially in the developing world,where portability and affordability are a *** monitoring of metabolite levels can provide useful information regarding key metabolic activities of the body and detect the concomitant irregularities such as in the case of diabetes,a worldwide chronic ***,the majority of daily glucose monitoring tools rely on piercing the skin to draw *** pain and discomfort associated with finger pricking have created a global need to develop non-invasive,portable glucose *** this work,we develop a disposable analytical device which can measure physiologically relevant glucose concentrations in human saliva based on enzymatic electrochemical *** use inkjet-printing technology for the rapid and low-cost deposition of all the components of this glucose sensor,from the electronics to the biorecognition elements,on commercially available paper *** only electronic component of the sensor is the conducting polymer poly(3,4 ethylenedioxythiophene)doped with polystyrene sulfonate(PEDOT:PSS),while the biorecognition element comprises of the enzyme glucose oxidase coupled with an electron *** demonstrate that one month after its fabrication and storage in air-free environment,the sensor maintains its function with only minor performance *** fully printed,all-polymer biosensor with its ease of fabrication,accuracy,sensitivity and compatibility with easy-to-obtain biofluids such as saliva aids in the development of next generation low-cost,noninvasive,eco-friendly,and disposable diagnostic tools.

Humidity is a critical environmental parameter for several production processes and its control/monitoring is of great importance in maintaining the quality of goods and products. In this context, metallic oxide ceramic nanostructures are materials of great technological interest in the fabrication of moisture sensors because they have good chemical/structural stability and high surface area/volume ratio. The electrical response of these sensors relates to the chemisorbed and physisorbed layers of water molecules on the surface of the ceramic particles and to the capillary condensation of water in the microscopic pores between the particles. Based on these aspects, this work presents the fundamentals, electrical/electronic properties, influence of dopants, novel preparation procedure by electrospinning and perspectives of application of TiO2:WO3 metal oxide heteronanostructures as humidity sensors.

To investigate whether the arrangement of componentsin multi-composite photocatalysts may affect their photocatalytic properties,due to different charge-transfer routes,two ternary-nanocomposite photocatalysts with different component arrangements,comprising N-doped carbon quantum dots(NCQDs),g-C3N4(CN),and Bi2WO6(BWO)(hereafter referred to as NCQDs/CN/BWO),were developed,and the photocatalytic degradation of model hazardous vapors under visible-light illumination was *** I NCQDs/CN/BWO,which was developed by the combination of NCQDs/BWO and CN,exhibited photocatalytic ability superior to that of type II NCQDs/CN/BWO,which was developed by the combination of CN/BWO and NCQDs;the superior photocatalytic ability corresponded to the dual properties of NCQDs:charge mediation and upconversion ***,the photocatalytic ability of NCQDs/CN/BWO was greater than those of the reference catalysts;in addition,this photocatalyst exhibited outstanding photochemical ***,the effects of CN/(BWO+CN)weight ratio of the CN/BWO dual nanocomposites and the NCQDs/(BWO+CN+NCQDs)weight percentage of NCQDs/CN/BWO ternary nanocomposites on the pollutant removal efficiency were *** plausible mechanisms over the two NCQDs/CN/BWO photocatalysts for the degradation of hazardous vapors were *** component arrangement approach proposed herein afforded a technique toward the perceptive development of novel multi-component heterostructures for the photocatalytic degradation of hazardous vapors.

Tidal current power is one of the promising and reliable renewable energies with the advantage of continuous and predictable resource. It can make stable electricity regardless of weather conditions or seasons all year around. The required technologies for tidal current power in the ocean have been developed for years and now recognized that it could be commercialized after intensive field tests and successful demonstrations. There are several tidal farm development projects in the world, such as the MeyGen project in UK with its commercialization at hand. However, various research subjects in the tidal current energy field are seeking improvements and industrialization of tidal current power in terms of economy and technical reliability. This paper introduces the resource assessment procedure of tidal energy that has been applied in Korea coastal regions. The key research subjects for tidal current power together with the interaction effect of multi-arrangement is described. Also, this paper is to introduce the research output of each subject such as turbine design, experimental validation, turbine interaction and wake, multi-array module, FSI (fluid-structure interaction), and duct application.

A new series of environment-friendly reddish inorganic pigments based on AFeO_(3)(A=Ln,Y) with high NIR solar reflectance

Environment-friendly pigments based on AFeO_(3)(A=La,Pr,Nd,Sm,Gd,Tb,Y or Yb)with high nearinfrared(NIR)reflectance were synthesised by a coprecipitation method at 1200℃.The Rietveld refinement analysis showed single-phase orthorhombic perovskite for all *** pigments,which showed reddish hues,offered good colour stability after mixing these pigments in powder form with siloxane transparent paint and two different *** powderepaint mixtures produced with GdFeO_(3),TbFeO_(3) and YFeO_(3) pigments have the highest NIR solar reflectance,reaching values of R=50%.The temperature shielding studies conducted using TbFeO_(3) pigmentepaint mixture for a roof coating yielded a reduction of 3.2℃ in comparison to a commercial ***,the glazes that were pigmented using GdFeO_(3),TbFeO_(3) and YFeO_(3) compositions also presented the most intense reddish colours.A study of the thermal and chemical stability of the pigment with the highest NIR solar reflectance showed good stability in both *** reddish pigments that were prepared can therefore be good candidates for use in different applications such as cool pigments or pigments for ceramic glazes at high temperatures.

CD8^(+) cytotoxic T cells(CTLs)protect against pathogens and cancer.1,2,3,4 Over the past few years,CTL responses have been extensively studied.1,2,3,4 In response to an infection,the CTL response develops in three phases:expansion,contraction,and memory.2,3,In the expansion phase,pathogen-derived antigens(Ags)trigger activation and proliferation of Ag-specific CTLs,leading to the generation of effector CTLs(eCTLs)with cytotoxic functions.2,5,Later,in the contraction phase,90–95%of eCTLs die as a result of activation-induced cell apoptosis.
