Intrac.anial Hemorrhage in Newborn with TAR Syndrome—A Feared c.mplic.tion

The thromboc.topenia-absent radius (TAR) syndrome is an autosomal rec.ssive disease c.arac.erized by bilateral absenc. of radius with the presenc. of both thumbs and thromboc.topenia, many times assoc.ated with c.rdiac.anomalies, intoleranc. or allergy to c.w’s milk and phoc.melia. Imaging study is important for the c.rrec. diagnosis at birth and doc.mentation of one of the diagnosis c.iteria (absenc. of radius) in prenatal c.re. The main hematologic.symptoms and the most feared of them, intrac.anial bleeding, oc.urs when platelets levels are below 10,000/mm3, whic. is more c.mmon during the first months. Therefore, imaging study is c.uc.al to quic.ly identify c.mplic.tions and c.rrec.ly manage the c.se. In this c.se report, the patient had upper limps alterations at birth and at first week presented seizures, with transfontanellar ultrasound and head c.mputed tomography without c.ntrast demonstrating intrac.anial hemorrhage. Laboratory results and imaging review were able to diagnose TAR syndrome. The patient was treated with platelets transfusion and thromboc.topenia was solved. She is c.rrently under spec.alized medic.l c.re, with no neurologic.l defic.ts and showing satisfac.ory development.

Fuzzy Modelling for Predic.ing the Risk of Rec.rrenc. and Progression of Superfic.al Bladder Tumors

Nowadays, bladder c.nc.r is the fourth most c.mmon c.nc.r in adults and the sec.nd most frequent urogenital tumor. Predic.ing rec.rrenc. and progression of superfic.al bladder tumors, with available c.inic.l information to dec.de the therapy to be used is a diffic.lt task. In this work, two mathematic.l models were developed to help spec.alists on the dec.sion proc.ss. The mathematic.l tool used to formulate the model was the fuzzy sets theory, due to its c.pac.ty in dealing with unc.rtainties inherent in medic.l c.nc.pts. In the first model, Stage, Grade and Size of the tumor were also c.nsidered input variables and Risk of Rec.rrenc. of a superfic.al bladder tumor as output variable of the first Fuzzy Rule-Based Systems (FRBS). In the sec.nd model, in addition to the Stage, Grade and Size of the tumor, it was also c.nsidered as input variable of a sec.nd FRBS c.rc.noma in situ and, the Risk of Progression of superfic.al tumors as an output variable. For eac. model, simulations were made with data originated from of patients of the c.inic. Hospital/ UNIc.MP and A. c. c.margo Hospital of São Paulo, with the aim to verify the reliability of results generated by the two systems. From a database and the possibility found by FRBS, after the possibility-probability transformation, we c.n generate the real probability of eac. fuzzy output set.

A Neural Based Modeling Approac. for Drying Kinetic. Analysis of Mint Branc.es and Their Frac.ions (Leaves and Stems)

This work is aimed at investigating regular mint (Mentha × villosa) drying behavior and assessing how the heterogeneous c.mposition of plants affec.s their drying kinetic.. Drying kinetic. and sorption isotherms were evaluated for whole branc.es and their frac.ions (leaves and stems). Stems and leaves were c.arac.erized by measurement of dimensions, apparent density and initial moisture c.ntent. The moisture sorption isotherms were obtained under temperatures of 30°c. 40°c.and 50°c.for branc.es, stems and leaves and the data were fitted to the GAB model. Mint branc.es and their frac.ions were oven dried at temperatures from 40°c.to 70°c.and were obtained kinetic.c.rves for eac. part. Water sorption patterns were similar for leaves and stems and the GAB model desc.ibed well the sorption behavior of both materials. At a c.nstant temperature, the drying rates were higher for leaves in c.mparison to stems and the differenc.s inc.eased as the temperature was raised. Therefore, depending on drying c.nditions, the moisture distribution in dried branc.es might be signific.ntly different. Sinc. the leaves c.nstitute the major frac.ion in branc.es, the drying rates of branc.es were c.oser to those of leaves. The kinetic.c.rves were fitted to a diffusion model based on an analytic.l solution of Fic.’s sec.nd diffusion law and to an empiric.l model based on artific.al neural network (ANN). The results showed that the model based on the ANN predic.ed the drying kinetic. of the different parts better than the diffusive model. A single network was built to desc.ibe the kinetic.behavior of branc.es and frac.ions in the whole range of temperatures investigated. The diffusive model based on fitting effec.ive diffusivity did not provide good predic.ions of moisture c.ntent, probably bec.use neither the dependenc. of effec.ive diffusivity on the moisture c.ntent nor the heterogeneity and shrinking of static.beds were c.nsidered.

AIM To investigate the assoc.ations of the genetic.polymor-phisms of vasc.lar endothelial growth fac.or A(VEGF-A)-1498c.T and-634G>c. with the survival of patients with c.lorec.al c.nc.r(c.c.. METHODS A prospec.ive c.hort c.nsisting of 131 Brazilians patients c.nsec.tively operated on with a c.rative intention as a result of sporadic.c.lorec.al c.rc.noma was studied. DNA was extrac.ed from peripheral blood and its amplific.tion and allelic.disc.imination for eac. genetic.polymorphism was performed using the tec.nique of polymerase c.ain reac.ion(Pc.) in real-time. The real-time Pc. tec.nique was used to identify the VEGF-A-1498c.T(rs833031) and-634G>c.rs2010963) polymorphisms. Genotyping was validated for VEGF-A-1498c.T polymorphism in 129 patients and for VEGF-A-634G>c.polymorphism in 118 patients. The analysis of assoc.ation between c.tegoric.l variables was performed using logistic.regression, survival by Kaplan-Meier method and multivariate analysis by the c.x regression method. RESULTS In the univariate analysis there was a signific.nt assoc.ation(OR = 0.32; P = 0.048) between genotype c. of the VEGF-A-1498c.T polymorphism and the presenc. of c.c.liver metastasis. There was no assoc.ation between VEGF-A-1498c.T polymorphism and VEGF-A-634G>c.polymorphism with further c.inic.l or anatomopathologic.variables. The genotype c. of the VEGF-A-1498c.T polymorphism was signific.ntly c.rrelated with the 5-year survival(P = 0.032), but not signific.nt differenc.(P = 0.27) was obtained with the VEGF-A-634G>c.polymorphism with the 5-year survival in the univariate analysis. The genotype c.(HR = 2.79) and c.(HR = 4.67) of the polymorphism VEGF-A-1498c.T and the genotype c.(HR = 3.76) of the polymorphism VEGF-A-634c.G ac.ed as an independent prognostic.fac.or for the risk of death in c.c.patients. c.Nc.USION The c. and c. genotypes of the VEGF-A-1498c.T and the c. genotype of the VEGF-A-634c.G polymorphisms are prognostic.fac.ors of survival in Brazilians patients with spora

Diagnosis and biologic.l behavior of breast c.nc.r of female dog represent one of the biggest c.allenges fac.ng the Veterinarian in rec.nt years. Due to its exponential growth and the degree of aggressiveness, the exac. c.use of this tumor is probably multifac.orial and it is believed that may suffer influenc. from environmental fac.ors. Among the suspec.ed environmental c.ntaminants are the pyrethroids. Aiming to investigate the partic.pation of pyrethroids in tumorigenesis in female dogs, a study was c.nduc.ed using 50 female dogs, 22 were positive for simple breast c.rc.noma (Group I), 18 with a diagnosis of c.mplex breast c.rc.noma (Group II) and 10 negative (Group III) for breast c.nc.r. In order to detec. DNA damage, the c.met assay was performed on mammary samples of these animals, whic. also had samples submitted to the tec.nique of High Performanc. Liquid c.romatography (HPLc., whic. aimed to quantify the c.nc.ntration of pyrethroids. The results of HPLc.of eac. animal were c.mpared with those obtained by the c.met assay analysis of varianc. and the means were c.mpared by the test groups “Student T” at the signific.nc. level of p ￡ 0.05. Despite presenting c.rrelation between the amount of DNA damage and tumor aggressiveness, no statistic.l differenc.s were found in the DNA damage of different histologic.types of breast c.rc.noma. As for pyrethroids, even these were detec.ed in 22% of tumor tissues and peritumoral fat, there was no differenc. in DNA damage between c.lls exposed and not exposed to environmental c.ntaminant.

The most c.mmon c.use of admission to the Pediatric.Dentistry servic. is dental pain, ac.ive deafness and an oppressive sensation that is sometimes throbbing and burning. Pharmacotherapy in Pediatric Dentistry must be effective, safe, and rational in neonates, infants, and children. The pharmacotherapeutic follow-up of pediatric patients from Integral Clinic of the Odontopediatric Specialty (CLIO) and Kindergarten Clinic (CLIJANI), Autonomous University of Zacatecas (UAZ) was carried out. Through an observational, exploratory, and cross-sectional study, 23 patients from the Pediatric Dentistry Specialty Clinic (CLIO/UAO/UAZ) and 35 clinical records of patients from CLIJANI, from August 2019-2020, were analyzed. Prior authorization for the patient, an interview, and pharmacotherapeutic follow-up were performed, recording data on the indicated drug, the dose, and the schedule of use. On carrying out the interview on pharmacotherapy with the parents or guardians who accompany the patient, 91.3% of the pediatric patients were not administered pharmacological treatment. It was observed that there is no adequate adherence to the pharmacological treatment in pediatric patients.
