Modeling regional landslide susceptibility using dynamic soil moisture profiles

A landslide susceptibility mapping study was performed using dynamic hillslope hydrology. The modified infinite slope stability model that directly includes vadose zone soil moisture(SM) was applied at Cleveland Corral, California, US and Krishnabhir, Dhading, Nepal. The variable infiltration capacity(VIC-3L) model simulated vadose zone soil moisture and the wetness index hydrologic model simulated groundwater(GW). The GW model predictions had a 75% NASH-Sutcliffe efficiency when compared to California's in-situ GW measurements. The model performed best during the wet season. Using predicted GW and VIC-3L vadose zone SM, the developed landslide susceptibility maps showed very good agreement with mapped landslides at each study region. Previous quasi-dynamic model predictions of Nepal's hazardous areas during extreme rainfall events were enhanced to improve the spatial characterization and provide the timing of hazardous conditions.

Natural killer(NK)cells are predominant innate lymphocytes that initiate the early immune response during *** cells undergo a metabolic switch to fuel augmented proliferation and activation following *** necrosis factor-alpha(TNFα)is a well-known inflammatory cytokine that enhances NK cell function;however,the mechanism underlying NK cell proliferation in response to TNFαis not well ***,we demonstrated that upon infection/inflammation,NK cells upregulate the expression of TNF receptor 2(TNFR2),which is associated with increased proliferation,metabolic activity,and effector ***,IL-18 can induce TNFR2 expression in NK cells,augmenting their sensitivity toward TNFα.Mechanistically,TNFα-TNFR2 signaling upregulates the expression of CD25(IL-2Rα)and nutrient transporters in NK cells,leading to a metabolic switch toward aerobic *** analysis revealed significantly reduced expression levels of genes involved in cellular metabolism and proliferation in NK cells from TNFR2 KO ***,our data affirmed that genetic ablation of TNFR2 curtails CD25 upregulation and TNFα-induced glycolysis,leading to impaired NK cell proliferation and antiviral function during MCMV infection in ***,our results delineate the crucial role of the TNFα-TNFR2 axis in NK cell proliferation,glycolysis,and effector function.

Emmanuel Levinas＇ ethical phenomenology offers a new understanding of what constitutes the core issue of ethics. For Levinas, the word ＂ethics＂ i,eeomes a question about the ＂wholly Other,＂ the entity that challenges the self-qua-being, thus diverging from the traditional ontological framework of Being in the West, that is, sameness or totality. At first glance, Zhuangzi seems to have little in common with Levinas： The former irreverently mocks all moral principles and ethical norms whereas the latter takes ethics as first philosophy; the former speaks of the faceless as the model of Daoist authenticity whereas the latter speaks of the face as the symbol of moral obligation. Nevertheless, there are plenty of chapters in the Zhuangzi which illustrate how a self-being experiences a profound transfiguration through its encounter with the Other, a constellation which resonates with Levinas＇ theme. In this paper, the issue ofrelationality in the Zhuangzi will be analyzed in light of Levinas＇ espousal of alterity, with the purpose of explicating the Daoist appropriation of what I will call ＂the philosophy of difference.＂ I will submit the argument that the Zhuangzian notion of freedom and the Daoist conception of a well-lived life are both based upon this philosophy of difference. I will also argue that Daoist ethics, particularly the version expressed by the Zhuangzi, is best understood as a form of＂negative ethics.＂

The vitality of European forests continues to decline due to new pests and diseases,climate-change related disturbances and high loads of atmospheric nitrogen *** soil health is a major factor underpinning the low vitality of West-European *** tree species with soil ameliorative traits is proposed as an avenue to counteract soil acidification and improve overall forest *** we evaluate the impact of black cherry(Prunus serotina Ehrh.),a known rich litter species,on the vitality of neighboring pedunculate oak(Quercus robur L.)in ten mixed forests on sand in Germany,Belgium and the *** found that black cherry admixture increases foliar N and P to a surplus whereas it causes deficiencies in foliar Mg,thereby resulting in an overall negative effect on oak foliar nutrient ***,defoliation of oak leaves by herbivory decreases with the proximity of black *** structural equation modelling(SEM),we tested the hypothesized‘improved soil health’*** analyses showed that black cherry admixture leads to lower accumulation in the humus layer,resulting in higher soil base saturation which has a positive effect on foliar Ca yet a negative effect on total ***,the SEM illustrated that herbivory of oak leaves decreases when black cherry is admixed,both via dilution and improved soil *** effects of black cherry on oak vitality via“improved soil health”in our SEM are however small in comparison to direct ***,our study showed that the combined positive and negative impacts of black cherry on oak vitality are limited,which tempers the potential benefits of using the rich litter species to counteract oak decline via improved soil health–yet,the concern of black cherry as an invasive alien species negatively affecting the vitality of mature pedunculate oak trees may also be exaggerated.

Turbulent flows are intrinsic to many processes in science and engineering, and efforts to elucidate the physics of turbulence are of critical importance to many fields. However, ongoing efforts to achieve a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of turbulent flow are hindered by the difficulty of quantifying the complex, nonlinear interactions between individual eddies in these flows. The difficulty of this task is compounded by the lack of robust methods for accurately identifying individual eddy structures and characterizing their dynamic evolution and organization across multiple scales. In this paper we address this problem by proposing several novel approaches for more accurately segmenting individual eddy structures in turbulent flows.

基于氮化物材料的谐振腔发光二极管(RCLED)和垂直表面发射腔激光器(VCSEL)引起了研究人员的兴趣。分布式布拉格反射镜(Distributed Bragg Reflector,DBR)是器件重要部分,不仅能够提供尽可能高的反射率,而且还可以将电流、限制电流传导到增益区域。因此,DBR的精确建模和仿真对于VCSEL和其他光电器件的制造具有重要意义。虽然DBR广泛用于可见光和近红外光电子学,但它们在紫外(Ultraviolet,UV)光电器件中的应用较少。主要是由于合适宽带隙氮化物材料传统金属有机化学气相沉积(MOCVD)生长困难,以及光吸收在深紫外波段的显著增加。氮化物紫外DBR的设计和制造,对于氮化物紫外光电器件具有重要意义。针对传统DBR制造过程中遇到的问题,本论文致力于在UV A、B和C的AlN/Al1-xnxN DBR的设计、制造和表征。本论文主要工作和创新点如下:1)从禁带宽度、截止波长和临界厚度等方面对磁控溅射AlN/Al1-xInxN基DBR进行理论分析和设计。采用FDTD方法设计DBR结构,分析不同结构参数对其反射光谱的影响,研究其制备工艺。模拟证实了基于氮化铝的材料在UV范围内实现高反射DBR的潜力。2)采用磁控溅射方法制备AlN和Al1-xInxN单层,并对其光学、结构和形态特性进行表征。椭圆光度测量用于确定光学常数(折射率n和消光系数k,取决于层的波长)。通过X射线光电子能谱分析研究了 AlN/Al1-xInxN薄膜的铟含量。为AlN/Al1-xInxN DBR制备奠定一定基础。3)通过射频(RF)磁控溅射在Si(111)和SiO2衬底上制造了在紫外波段具有高反射率的AlN/Al1-xInxN DBR。DBR由8对AlN/Al0.84In0.16N 组成,在 235 nm、290 nm 和 365 nm 为代表的 UVA、B和C波段反射率为86.5%、97.7%和97.5%,反射平带宽分别为45 nm、70 nm 和 96 nm,RMS 为 2.95 nm。本文磁控溅射沉积高反射紫外AlN/Al1-xInxN DBR研究,将有可能用于氮化物紫外器件。图53幅,表7个,参考文献100篇

Weighted essentially non-oscillatory(WENO)methods have been developed to simultaneously provide robust shock-capturing in compressible fluid flow and avoid excessive damping of fine-scale flow features such as *** certain conditions in compressible turbulence,however,numerical dissipation remains unacceptably high even after optimization of the linear component that dominates in smooth *** the nonlinear error that remains,we demonstrate that a large fraction is generated by a“synchronization deficiency”that interferes with the expression of theoretically predicted numerical performance characteristics when the WENO adaptation mechanism is *** deficiency is illustrated numerically in simulations of a linearly advected sinusoidal wave and the Shu-Osher problem[***.,83(1989),pp.32-78].It is shown that attempting to correct this deficiency through forcible synchronization results in violation of *** conclude that,for the given choice of candidate stencils,the synchronization deficiency cannot be adequately resolved under the current WENO smoothness measurement technique.
