The identification of genes increasing one’s risk of developing common,complex disorders like Parkinson’s disease(PD)can provide novel therapeutic opportunities.A prime example of this are the consequences of mutations in GBA1,the gene responsible for the lysosomal storage disorder Gaucher disease(GD).GD is a multi-system disorder,primarily affecting tissues of the reticuloendothelial system.A subset of patients with GD also have neuronopathic manifestations(types 2 and 3 GD).

The increasing demand for safe food without preservatives or pesticides residues has encouraged several studies on natural products with antifungal activity and low *** this study,ethanolic extracts from leaves and fruit residues(peel and seeds)of three Brazilian savanna species(Acrocomia aculeata,Campomanesia adamantium and Caryocar brasiliense)were evaluated against phytopathogenic ***,the most active extract was chemically characterized by ESI-MS and its oral acute toxicity was *** from ***(pequi)peel and leaves were active against Alternaria alternata,Alternaria solani and Venturia pirina with minimal inhibitory concentrations between 350 and 1000 lg/*** incorporated in solid media,these extracts extended the lag phase of *** and *** and reduced the growth rate of *** peel extract showed better antifungal activity and their ESI-MS analysis revealed the presence of substances widely reported as antifungal such as gallic acid,quinic acid,ellagic acid,glucogalin and *** oral acute toxicity was relatively low,being considered safe for use as a potential natural fungicide.

AIM To identify factors associated with depressive symptoms among inpatients with cardiovascular disease(CVD). METHODS This is a cross-sectional study performed in a subsample of a large cross-sectional research that investigated affective disorders and suicide behaviour among inpatients hospitalized in non-surgical wards of the University Hospital of the Federal University of Minas Gerais from November 2013 to October 2015. Sociodemographic and clinical data were obtained through a structured interview and medical record review. Depression was assessed by the depression subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, with scores ≥ 8 considered as positive screening for depression. We used the Fagestr?m Test for Nicotine Dependence to characterize nicotine dependence. For assessing resilience and early-life trauma, we used the raw scores of the Wagnild and Young Resilience Scale and Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, *** At endpoint, we included 137 subjects. Thirty-eight(27.7%) subjects presented depressive symptoms and nine(23.7%) of those were receiving antidepressant treatment during hospitalization. The female sex; a lower mean educational level; a greater prevalence of previous suicide attempts; a higher level of pain; a higher prevalence of family antecedents of mental disorders; a lower resilience score; and higher childhood trauma score were the factors significantly associated with screening positive for major depression(P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that the factors independently associated with the depressive symptoms were a higher childhood trauma severity(OR = 1.06; P = 0.004); moderate to severe nicotine dependence(OR = 8.58; P = 0.008); and the number of previous hospital admissions(OR = 1.11; P = 0.034). Cholangiocarcinomas are primary malignant tumors of the liver that arises from the epithelium lining the small intra and extrahepatic bile ducts, and has numerous histologic types and growth patterns. At computed tomography (CT) and magnetic ressonance (MR), it has various appearences which motivated the present study;we present a case within an atypical presentation. The objective is to show the variety of differential diagnoses before an atypical aspect and the importance of the imaging methods for the diagnosis. Cholangiocarcinoma is still an uncommon neoplasm, and CT and MR are crucial for accurate diagnosis and for differentiation from other hepatic tumorous and nontumorous lesions.

Several plants use secondary metabolites against insects and pathogens attack. Among such metabolites known glycoalkaloids are the most studied. Plants from Solanaceae Family are the most abundant on those alkaloids. Despite alfa-tomatine is a known glycoalkaloid, its specific action against Moniliophthora perniciosa, fungi responsible for witches broom disease in cocoa plantations was obtained in this work. Alfa-tomatine was infusion-extracted from Solanum lycopersicum leaves, and its action against the fungi growth was shown on the bioassays. In these tests, M. perniciosa growth was totally inhibited but other fungus tested, the inhibition was not totally, or did not present effect on growth, showing in this way, the specificity of alfa-tomatine to M. perniciosa. The advantages of work with a natural molecule for the fungi control is the stability of the molecule, its resistance to high temperature and pressure and for its use, the simple method of extraction used. The confirmation of the alfa-tomatine molecule was done by High Performance Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry in comparison to the Sigma standard.

We report a case of a 40-year-old woman, second pregnancy, previous cesarean section due to intrauterine growth restriction and placenta accreta spectrum disorders. She was 25 weeks gestational age, admitted to the hospital 25 weeks gestational age, diagnosed with fetal death. Initial conservative management attempt with uterine preservation progresses to complications requiring total hysterectomy followed by a rare outcome: pelvic thrombi with uterine necrosis, with its associated clinical complications.

Wildlife trafficking is classified as the fourth largest illegal commerce in the world. Taxonomic identification of wildlife is an ordinary process for forensics experts. The aim of this study was to analyze animal’s hair from Brazilian’s wildlife through microscopic and compare morphology of bristle among species analyzed. Hair samples of nine species were analyzed. Glass slides were analyzed through optical microscopy and following measurements were obtained: total length, medulla diameter, overall diameter and overall ratio diameter of the medulla’s diameter. The images obtained at identification of animals through the morphology of hair and the statistics analysis corroborates in favor for the validation of the technique.

Dental Post Based on Epoxy Resin/Zirconium Phosphate Composite Aiming Prosthetic Dentistry

The aim of this research was to develop an intrarradicular dental post based on epoxy resin/nano zirconium phosphate composite with potential appli-cation in prosthetic dentistry. Zirconium phosphate (ZrP) nanoparticle was synthesized by a reaction between phosphoric acid (H3PO4) and zirconium (IV) oxide chloride 8-hydrate (ZrOCl2·8H2O) and applied as filler. Commer-cial epoxy resin and hardener were used as polymer matrix. The composites were prepared at different proportions of epoxy resin/hardener, filler amount, reaction time and temperature. Infrared revealed that degree of conversion decreased with amount of ZrP. Insoluble matter was upper than 97%. Thermogravimetry indicated two steps of degradation. The best values of flexural modulus and flexural strength were achieved for the post desig-nated as 1:0.25:0.25. Laser scanning confocal microscopy suggested that the morphology of the posts fractured surface varied according to epoxy-resin:hardener ratio and the ZrP amount. From atomic force micros-copy, the topographic view exposed the shape and size of ZrP particles. Field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy indicated good adhesion between epoxy resin matrix-ZrP and that the pres-ence of phosphate rendered brittle the fracture surface.

Antineoplastic phospholipids are a new class of antitumor *** molecules interact with the plasma membrane,changing numerous pathways that induce cell death,with high selectivity for cancer cells.A representative of this class of antineoplastic agents is 2-aminoethyl dihydrogen phosphate(2-AEH2P).It is present in high intracellular concentrations in various tissues and organelles with antitumor,antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic ***,4T1 triple-negative tumor cells were treated in different concentrations in order to assess the cytotoxic potential and its effects on the modulation of cell death pathways in association with the chemotherapeutic drug Paclitaxel.2-AEH2P promoted cytotoxicity in tumor cells and significant morphological changes,however,it did not cause these effects in normal *** was positive regulation of proteins involved in the intrinsic pathway of cell death by apoptosis and regulation of the phases of cell cycle ***,structural and distribution changes in mitochondria,as well as decreased cell density and regression of the cytoskeleton were *** 2-AEH2P demonstrated a modulatory potential of apoptotic pathways inducing cell death,being a new compound with antitumor properties.
