hydrogen sulfide(h_(2)S)has been reported as an endogenous gasotransmitter that contributes to the modulation of a myriad of biological signalling pathways,which includes maintaining homeostasis in living organisms at physiological concentrations,controlling protein sulfhydration and persulfidation for signalling processes,mediating neurodegeneration,and regulating inflammation and innate immunity,*** a result,researchers are actively exploring effective approaches to evaluate the properties and the distribution of h_(2)S in ***,the regulation of the physiological conditions of h_(2)S in vivo introduces the opportunity to further study the molecular mechanisms by which h_(2)S regulates cellular *** recent years,many h_(2)S-releasing compounds and biomaterials that can deliver h_(2)S to various body systems have been developed to provide sustained and stable h_(2)S ***,various designs of these h_(2)S-releasing biomaterials have been proposed to aid in the normal conduction of physiological processes,such as cardioprotection and wound healing,by modulating different signalling pathways and cell *** biomaterials as a platform to control the delivery of h_(2)S introduces the opportunity to fine tune the physiological concentration of h_(2)S in vivo,a key to many therapeutic *** this review,we highlight recent research works concerning the development and application of h_(2)S-releasing biomaterials with a special emphasis to different release triggering conditions in in vivo *** believe that the further exploration of the molecular mechanisms underlying h_(2)S donors and their function when incorporated with various biomaterials will potentially help us understand the pathophysiological mechanisms of different diseases and assist the development of h_(2)S-based therapies.

Gene transcription profiting of astheno-and normo-zoospermic sperm subpopulations

Spermatozoa contain a repertoire of RNAs considered to be potential functional fertility *** this study,the gene expression of human sperm subpopulations with high(F1)and low(F2)motility from healthy normozoospermic(N)and asthenozoospermic(A)individuals was evaluated using RNA microarray followed by functional genomic analysis of differentially expressed *** from A-F1 versus N-F1,A-F2 versus N-F2,N-F1 versus N-F2,and A-F1 versus A-F2 comparisons showed a considerably larger set of downregulated genes in tests versus *** ontology(GO)analysis of A-F1 versus N-F1 identified 507 overrepresented biological processes(BPs),several of which are associated with sperm *** addition,gene set enrichment analysis of the same contrast showed 110 BPs,36 cellular comp on ents,and 31 molecular functions,several of which are involved in sperm motility.A leadi ng・edge analysis of selected GO terms resulted in several down regulated genes encoding to dyn eins and kin esins,both related to sperm ***,the predicted activation state of asthenozoospermia was increased,while fertility,cell movement of sperm,and gametogenesis were ***,several downregulated genes characteristic of the canonical pathway protein ubiquitination were involved in asthenozoospermia ***,GO analysis of A-F2 versus N-F2 did not identify overrepresented BPs,although the gene set enrichment analysis detected six enriched BPs,one cellular component,and two molecular ***,the results show differences in gene transcription between sperm subpopulations from asthenozoospermic and normozoospermic semen samples and allowed the identification of gene sets relevant to sperm physiology and reproduction.

Identification of optimal contemporary antiemetic prophylaxis for doxorubicin-cyclophosphamide chemotherapy in Chinese cancer patients: post-hoc analysis of 3 prospective studies

In order to assess Stathmin as an immunohistochemical(IhC)indicator of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)pathway activity in hPV-negative head&neck squamous cell carcinoma(hNSCC),we compared Stathmin IhC to expression of other pathway *** also evaluated the relationship between Stathmin IhC and the mutational status of four key pathway ***,we ascertained whether Stathmin IhC correlates with tumor grade or primary *** exists between high Stathmin expression and high pAKT1 expression,indicating a role for Stathmin IhC as a marker of pathway *** analysis did not show correlation between Stathmin IhC and mutation of the four genes *** also observed an association between high Stathmin expression and oropharyngeal primary *** results suggest utility of Stathmin IhC as an indicator of PI3K pathway activity,and thereby demonstrate potential relevance of Stathmin IhC in the context,of hNSCC.

Town-scale microbial sewer community and h2S emissions response to common chemical and biological dosing treatments

Controlling hydrogen sulfide(h2S)odors and emissions using a single,effective treatment across a town-scale sewer network is a challenge faced by many water *** of a sewer diversion provided the opportunity to compare the effectiveness of magnesium hydroxide(Mg(Oh)2)and two biological dosing compounds(Bioproducts A and B),with different modes of action(MOA),in a field-test across a large sewer ***(Oh)2 increases sewer p h allowing suppression of h2S release into the sewer environment while Bioproduct A acts to disrupt microbial communication through quorum sensing(QS),reducing biofilm *** B reduces h2S odors by scouring the sewer of fats,oils and grease(FOGs),which provide adhesion points for the microbial *** revealed that only Mg(Oh)2 altered the microbial community structure and reduced h2S emissions in a live sewer system,whilst Bioproducts A and B did not reduce h2S emissions or have an observable effect on the composition of the microbial community at the dosed *** results recommend in situ testing of dosing treatments before implementation across an operational system.

Parvalbumin neuroplasticity compensates for somatostatin impairment, maintaining cognitive function in Alzheimer’s disease

Background: Patient-to-patient variability in the degree to which β-amyloid, tau and neurodegeneration impact cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) complicates disease modeling and treatment. however, the underlying mechanisms leading to cognitive resilience are not resolved. We hypothesize that the variability in cognitive function and loss relates to neuronal resilience of the hippocampal GABAergic network. Methods: We compared TgF344-AD and non-transgenic littermate rats at 9, 12, and 15 months of age. Neurons, β-amyloid plaques and tau inclusions were quantified in hippocampus and entorhinal cortex. Somatostatin (SST) and parvalbumin (PVB) interneurons were traced to examine hippocampal neuroplasticity and cognition was tested in the barnes maze. Results: The 9-month-old TgF344-AD rats exhibited loss of neurons in the entorhinal cortex and hippocampus. hippocampal neuronal compensation was observed in 12-month TgF344-AD rats, with upregulation of GABAergic interneuronal marker. By 15 months, the TgF344-AD rats had robust loss of excitatory and inhibitory neurons. β-Amyloid and tau pathology accumulated continuously across age. SST interneurons exhibited tau inclusions and atrophy from 9 months, whereas PVB interneurons were resilient until 15 months. The hippocampal PVB circuit underwent neuroplastic reorganization with increased dendritic length and complexity in 9- and 12-month-old TgF344- AD rats, before atrophy at 15 months. Strikingly, 12-month-old TgF344-AD rats were resilient in executive function and cognitive flexibility. Cognitive resilience in TgF344-AD rats occurred as maintenance of function between 9 and 12 months of age despite progressive spatial memory deficits, and was sustained by PVB neuroplasticity. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate the inherent neuronal processes leading to cognitive maintenance, and describe a novel finding of endogenous cognitive resilience in an AD model.

中后期垃圾填埋场渗滤液,由于氨氮（Nh+4-N）浓度高、BOD/COD（B/C）比较低,很难直接进行生物处理。本文就磷酸镁铵沉淀法（Magnesium Ammonium Phosphate, MAP）和Fenton氧化法两种预处理工艺对中后期垃圾渗滤液的处理效果进行了比较和分析,并以好氧膜生物反应器为后续处理工艺,对预处理效果进行了验证。结果发现,对于MAP沉淀法,ph值为9、Mg2+:PO3-4:Nh+4比例为1:1:1时,Nh+4-N和COD的去除率分别在97.0%和50.0%以上,浓度分别从2132 mg l-1和4113 mg l-1降低到46 mg l-1和2057 mg l-1。对于Fenton氧化法,在最佳反应条件（h2O2浓度为3500 mg l-1,Fe2+浓度为437.5 mg l-1,ph值为4,h2O2与Fe2+质量比为8,反应时间为30min）下,Nh+4-N和COD的去除率分别为76%和6.3%,浓度分别降为987 mg l-1和1997 mg l-1。在上述条件下,MAP沉淀法和Fenton氧化法处理后的垃圾渗滤液B/C比从原来的0.35分别提高到0.66和0.71,可生化性显著提高。研究还发现,MAP沉淀法不受温度影响,而Fenton氧化法的处理效率与反应温度呈正相关。MAP沉淀法对于垃圾渗滤液中的Nh+4-N和COD均有良好的去除效果,因此是一种较理想的预处理工艺。MAP沉淀法结合好氧膜生物反应器（Membrane Bio-Reactor, MBR）的组合工艺对垃圾渗滤液的处理效果较好,MBR水力停留时间12h,渗滤液中的Nh+4-N几乎完全被去除,COD去除率在80%以上。

histone Acetylation, VERNALIZATION INSENSITIVE 3, FLOWERING LOCUS C, and the Vernalization Response

The quantitative induction of VIN3 by low temperatures is required for PRC2 repression of FLC and promotion of flowering （vernalization） in Arabidopsis. histone acetylation, a chromatin modification commonly associated with gene transcription, increased on VIN3 chromatin in two spatially and temporally distinct phases in response to low temperatures. During short-term cold exposure, histone h3 acetylation at the transcription start site rapidly increased, implying that it is required for VlN3 induction. Subsequent changes in histone h3 and h4 acetylation occurred following continued VIN3 transcription during prolonged cold exposure. Members of the SAGA-like transcriptional adaptor complex, including the histone acetyltransferase GCNS, which induces expression of the cold acclimation pathway genes, do not regulate VlN3 induction during cold exposure, indicating that the cold acclimation pathway and the cold-induction of VlN3 are regulated by different transcriptional mechanisms. Mutations in the other 11 histone acetyltransferase genes did not affect VlN3 induction. however, nicotinamide, a histone deacetyiase inhibitor, induced VIN3 and altered histone acetylation at the VIN3 locus. VIN3 induction was proportional to the length of nicotinamide treatment, which was associated with an early-flowering phenotype and repression of FLC. however, unlike vernalization, the repression of FLC was independent of VIN3 activity. Nicotinamide treatment did not cause a change in the expression of any genes in the autonomous pathway or members of the PRC2 complex, the well characterized repressors of FLC. Our data suggest that FLC is repressed via a novel pathway involving the SIR2 class of histone deacetylases.

Evaluating a combined bowel preparation for small-bowel capsule endoscopy:a prospective randomized–controlled study

Background:Capsule endoscopy(CE)is frequently hindered by intra-luminal *** aim was to determine whether a combination bowel preparation would improve small-bowel visualization,diagnostic yield,and the completion rate of ***:Single-blind,prospective randomized–controlled study of outpatients scheduled for ***-preparation subjects ingested 2 L of polyethylene glycol solution the night prior to CE,5mL simethicone and 5mg metoclopramide 20 minutes prior to CE and laid in the right lateral position 30 minutes after swallowing *** had no solid food after 7 *** night prior to CE and no liquids 4 hours prior to *** completed a satisfaction *** readers completed a small-bowel-visualization ***:Fifty patients were prospectively enrolled(56%female)with a median age of 54.4 years and 44 completed the study(23 patients in the control group and 21 in the preparation group).There was no significant difference between groups on quartile-based small-bowel visualization(all P>0.05).There was no significant difference between groups in diagnostic yield(P=0.69),mean gastric(P=0.10)or small-bowel transit time(P=0.89).The small-bowel completion rate was significantly higher in the preparation group(100%vs 78%;P=0.02).Bowel-preparation subjects reported significantly more discomfort than controls(62%vs 17%;P=0.01).Conclusions:Combined bowel preparation did not improve small-bowel visualization but did significantly increase patient *** CE completion rate improved in the preparation group but the diagnostic yield was *** on our findings,a bowel preparation prior to CE does not appear to improve CE performance and results in decreased patient satisfaction(***,***01243736).
