Switchgrass Biochar Effects on Plant Biomass and Microbial Dynamics in Two Soils from Different Regions

Biochar amendments to soils may alter soil function and fertility in various ways, including through induced changes in the microbial community. We assessed microbial activity and community composition of two distinct clayey soil types, an Aridisol from colorado （cO） in the U.S. central Great Plains, and an Alfisol from Virginia （VA） in the southeastern USA following the application of switchgrass （Panicum virgatum） biochar. The switchgrass biochar was applied at four levels, 0%,0, 2.5%, 5%, and 10%, approximately equivalent to biochar additions of 0, 25, 50, and 100 t ha^-1, respectively, to the soils grown with wheat （Triticum aestivum） in an eight-week growth chamber experiment. We measured wheat shoot biomass and nitrogen （n） content and soil nutrient availability and n mineralization rates, and characterized the microbial fatty acid methyl ester （FAME） profiles of the soils. net n mineralization rates decreased in both soils in proportion to an increase in biochar levels, but the effect was more marked in the VA soil, where net n mineralization decreased from -2.1 to -38.4 mg kg^-1. The 10% biochar addition increased soil pH, electrical conductivity, Mehlich- and bicarbonate-extractable phosphorus （P）, and extractable potassium （K） in both soil types. The wheat shoot biomass decreased from 17.7 to 9.1 g with incremental additions of biochar in the cO soil, but no difference was noted in plants grown in the VA soil. The FAME recovery assay indicated that the switchgrass biochar addition could introduce artifacts in analysis, so the results needed to be interpreted with caution. non-corrected total FAME concentrations indicated a decline by 457o and 34% with 10% biochar addition in the cO and VA soils, respectively, though these differences became nonsignificant when the extraction efficiency correction factor was applied. The effect of the Al-6ce-3La（AcL） on the microstructural behavior of the Al7075 was investigated. Materials were synthesized by mechanical alloying with variation in the AcL content and milling time. Products were characterized and studied in the as-milled condition and mechanically evaluated after sintering. The synergetic effect of milling time and AcL content in the modified materials led to a reduction in the particle size. Results from electron microscopy showed a homogeneous dispersion of ce/La phases up to 20 wt.% of AcL content after 10 h of milling. Mechanical evaluation under compressive test showed an improved performance for those alloys reinforced with 0.2 wt.% and 0.5 wt.% of AcL.

In the last decade,extensive research has been carried out on the microstructural behavior of high-entropy alloys(HEA),for which the in-situ formation of nanoparticles has been ***,studies of the incorporation of nanoparticles in HEA have been rarely *** this work,the addition of zinc oxide nanoparticles(ZnO nP)as reinforcement in a cocrFeMoni high-entropy alloy matrix,as well as the morphological,structural,and microstructural evolution of composites synthesized via powder metallurgy,were *** electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis were performed in order to study the microstructural and phase characterization of the *** sintering,it was found that the ZnO nP addition(0.5 wt%,1 wt%and 2 wt%)had a significant influence on the microstructure and hardness of the cocrFeMoni high-entropy *** bonding among metal particles was promoted with the additions of Zn O nP.A reduction in porosity as a function of ZnO nP content was also *** microhardness results showed that the composite reached its highest reinforcement in bulk samples with 1 wt%ZnO nP(HV 870),which represented a 20%improvement over the unreinforced HEA matrix.

AIM: To study glutamine synthetase (GS) activity and glutamate uptake in the hippocampus and frontal cortex (Fc) from rats with prehepatic portal vein hypertension. METHODS: Male Wistar rats were divided into shamoperated group and a portal hypertension (PH) group with a regulated stricture of the portal vein. Animals were sacrificed by decapitation 14 d after portal vein stricture. GS activity was determined in the hippocampus and Fc. Specific uptake of radiolabeled L-glutamate was studied using synaptosome-enriched fractions that were freshly prepared from both brain areas. RESULTS: We observed that the activity of GS increased in the hippocampus of PH rats, as compared to control animals, and decreased in the Fc. A significant decrease in glutamate uptake was found in both brain areas, and was more marked in the hippocampus. The decrease in glutamate uptake might have been caused by a deficient transport function, signif icantly and persistent increase in this excitatory neurotransmitter activity. cOncLUSIOn: The presence of moderate ammonia blood levels may add to the toxicity of excitotoxic glutamate in the brain, which causes alterations in brain function. Portal vein stricture that causes portal hypertension modif ies the normal function in some brain regions.

Because of the presence of modified warp factors in metric tensors,we use deformed AdS5 spaces to apply the AdS/cFT correspondence to calculate the spectra for even and odd glueballs,scalar and vector mesons,and baryons with different *** the glueball cases,we derive their Regge trajectories and compare them with those related to the pomeron and the *** the scalar and vector mesons,as well as baryons,the determined masses are compatible with the *** particular,for these hadrons we found Regge trajectories compatible with another holographic approach as well as with the hadronic spectroscopy,which present an universal Regge slope of approximately 1.1 GeV^2.

In the present work we develop an electrochemical assisted method to form nanopores on the surface of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite(HOPG),which was accomplished by a simple electrochemical route and a scalable nanomaterial,carbon nanodots,without applying high voltages,high temperatures or toxic *** electrodes are in a solution of n-enrich carbon nanodots in acidic media and the potential scans applied on HOPG lead to the formation of a spatially inhomogeneous porous *** diameter of the resulting nanopores can be tuned by controlling the number of electrochemical reduction *** resulting nanoporous surfaces are characterized by atomic force microscopy,Raman spectroscopy,scanning electrochemical microscopy,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and *** nanoporous HOPG showed high *** the potential of these surfaces to the development of energy storage devices is demonstrated.

Sarcomas constitute a rare heterogeneous group of tumors,including a wide variety of histological *** advances in our understanding of the pathophysiology of the disease,first-line sarcoma treatment options are still limited and new treatment approaches are *** H2AX phosphorylation is a sensitive marker for double strand breaks and has recently emerged as biomarker of DnA damage for new drug *** this study,we explored the role of H2AX phosphorylation at Ser139 alone or in combination with MAP17 protein,an inducer of DnA damage through ROS increase,as prognostic biomarkers in sarcoma ***,we proposed doxorubicin and olaparib combination as potential therapeutic strategies against sarcomas displaying high level of both *** evaluate retrospectively the levels of pH2AX(Ser139)and MAP17 in a cohort of 69 patients with different sarcoma types and its relationship with clinical and pathological *** found that the levels of pH2AX and MAP17 were related to clinical features and poor ***,we pursued PARP1 inhibition with olaparib to potentiate the antitumor effect of DnA damaging effect of the DnA damaging agent doxorubicin to achieve an optimal synergy in *** demonstrated that the combination of olaparib and doxorubicin was synergistic in vitro,inhibiting cell proliferation and enhancing pH2AX intranuclear accumulation,as a result of DnA *** synergism was corroborated in patient-derived xenografts(PDX)where the combination was effective in tumors with high levels of pH2AX and MAP17,suggesting that both biomarkers might potentially identify patients who better benefit from this combined therapy.

In this paper we prove the behaviour in weighted Lp spaces of the oscillation and variation of the Hilbert transform and the Riesz transform associated with the Hermite operator of dimension 1. We prove that this operator maps LP（R, w（x）dx） into itself when w is a weight in the Ap class for 1 〈 p 〈 ∞. For p = 1 we get weak type for the A1 class. Weighted estimated are also obtained in the extreme case p = ∞.

The catabacteriaceae is a new bacterial family aerobic, non-sporulating, Gram-positive coccobacillus that is with a unique member： catabacter hongkongensis is a strictly anphylogenetically related to some clostridial clusters. Little is known of its epidemiology and environmental distribution, but the inclusion of its 16S rRnA gene sequence in GenBank has allowed it to be detected qualitatively. As a first approach for prospective surveys, a real-time polymerase chain reaction （PcR） procedure to identify c. hongkongensis has been developed. The presence of catabacteriaceae in 29 water bodies subjected to possible human or animal impact has been investigated. Four of them were positive. The results confirm that highly polluted water can contain c hongkongensis.
