Ethnobotanical Study of Medicinal Plants Used for Treating Urinary Tract Infections in N’Djamena (Chad)

Introduction: Infection disease is a real publique health problem. The rise of resistance for modern antibiotic in infections treatment imposed us order alternatives. The study objective was to contribute in the knowledge of medicinal plants uses in urinary infections treatment in N’Djamena (Chad) in view for amelioration the traditional medicine in future. Methodology: The study was conducted in the city of N’Djamena in the Republic of Chad that interviewed 60 traditherapists on using 11 plants for urinary tract infections treatment. The methodology of this study consisted of the knowledge of medicinal plants that used by traditherapists, and the plants identification was done in the laboratory of IRED at Farcha. Results: A total of 60 traditherapists was interrogated on the plants used in the treatment of urinary tract infections among the population of N’Djamena. The majority of traditherapists interrogated in this study were male with the rate of 61.67% against female with the rate of 38.33%. The age range of traditherapists was between 20 to 80 years, 25 (41.67%) from the age range between 30 - 50 years and 35 (58.33%) in age range from 50 to 70 years. For the origin of their knowledge, the study showed that 72% of traditherapists inherited the knowledge from their family, while 15% inherited from the family and from training. The ethnic groups of the traditherapists were Sara (16%), Maraba (12%) and Massa (11%). According to the results, 18.33% were illiterates, 49% attended primary school and 33.34% the secondary school. Our study found that 11 species of plants belonging to 11 families were used in the treatment of urinary tract infection and the Ziziphus spina-christi was the most represented. According to traditherapists the Ziziphus spina-christi, Cassia obovata and Euphorbia hirta were the most frequent plants used in the urinary tract infections treatment. Relationship between the rs2241766 ADIPOQ Polymorphism in a Black African Population and the Occurrence of Type 2 Diabetes

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disease, characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. This pathology is linked to various genes whose interaction with the environment promotes its development. The aim of this work was to determine the relationship between the rs2241766 (T/G) polymorphism of the ADIPOQ gene with type 2 diabetes in the black population. Material and Methods: This work was a case-control study, involving type 2 diabetics subjects (n = 94) and controls (n = 82). The study took place from September 2022 to September 2023. Patients were recruited in the Endocrinology Department of the Libreville University Hospital Center. Analysis was performed in the Biochemistry laboratory of the University of Health Sciences in Libreville and at the Research Institute of Health Sciences of Bobodioulasso. Genomic DNA was extracted using the protocol Qiagen kit and the PCR-RFLP method was used to determine the rs2241766 (T/G) polymorphism of the ADIPOQ gene. Results: Only 2 genotypes were found in this population, the TT genotype and the GT genotype. The proportions were not different between the two groups (p = 0.1095) neither the distribution of G and T alleles (p = 0.1095). On the other hand, the HDL hypocholesterolemia was frequent in subjects with the GT genotype compared to TT heterozygous (51.1% vs 48.9%, p = 0.0280;OR = 0.55 [0.30 - 1.01]). Conclusion: There was no association between the rs2241766 (T/G) variant of the ADIPOQ gene and the occurrence of type 2 diabetes in this population. On the other hand, a relationship between HDL hypocholesterolemia and the GT genotype has been established.

Effect of Soybean Cultivars on the Nutrients and Consumer Acceptance of Soymilk

Soymilk is one of the most available beverages, an alternative to dairy milk and is recognized for its nutritional value. The nutritional quality, the presence of anti-nutritional factors, isoflavones and sensory acceptability of soymilk depended on the soybean variety as well as the processing conditions. The soymilks from conventional and specialty Brazilian soybean cultivars were compared regarding the composition and consumer acceptance. There were significant differences on the protein, oil, sugars, isoflavones, presence of anti-nutritional factors (phytate and trypsin inhibitor activity) and NSI (nitrogen solubility index) among cultivars and soymilks and for sensory acceptance of soymilks. The preference mapping and cluster analysis identified three different segments of consumers. The soymilk from the conventional cultivar BRS284 achieved higher and similar acceptance score for the three consumer’s segments while the lipoxygenase free cultivars (BRS213 and BRS257) and specialty cultivar BRS216 showed higher score for two segments of consumers. The sensory evaluation of soymilk from different soybean cultivars could improve consumer uptake.

Though the labonachip or microfluidics field can nov be considered well established and perhaps even maturafter more than two decades, it continues to grow. Type il ＂lab chip＂ or ＂microfluidics＂ into the Web of ScienceTM ant you＇ll see what I mean. At the time of writing this article there were 8029 published items, which had been citer 100,676 times altogether. An astounding number in fact ＂lab chip＂ or ＂microfluidics＂ has an Hindex of 131, asta tistic that many chemists, analytical or otherwise, have con tributed to over the years. The number of published paper continues to increase with each successive year, with mort than 1400 of the 8029 articles mentioned above appearin in 2011 alone. We are offto a good start in 2012, with mort than 150 papers published in January. At this rate, the tota number of papers in 2012 will easily surpass that of 2011 Clearly, more and more researchers continue to enter tht labonachip field, ensuring a healthy and dynamic re search climate internationally.

Use of Total Precipitable Water Classification of A Priori Error and Quality Control in Atmospheric Temperature and Water Vapor Sounding Retrieval

This study investigates the use of dynamic a priori error information according to atmospheric moistness and the use of quality controls in temperature and water vapor profile retrievals from hyperspectral infrared （IR） sounders. Temperature and water vapor profiles are retrieved from Atmospheric InfraRed Sounder （AIRS） radiance measurements by applying a physical iterative method using regression retrieval as the first guess. Based on the dependency of first-guess errors on the degree of atmospheric moistness, the a priori first-guess errors classified by total precipitable water （TPW） are applied in the AIRS physical retrieval procedure. Compared to the retrieval results from a fixed a priori error, boundary layer moisture retrievals appear to be improved via TPW classification of a priori first-guess errors. Six quality control （QC） tests, which check non-converged or bad retrievals, large residuals, high terrain and desert areas, and large temperature and moisture deviations from the first guess regression retrieval, are also applied in the AIRS physical retrievals. Significantly large errors are found for the retrievals rejected by these six QCs, and the retrieval errors are substantially reduced via QC over land, which suggest the usefulness and high impact of the QCs, especially over land. In conclusion, the use of dynamic a priori error information according to atmospheric moistness, and the use of appropriate QCs dealing with the geographical information and the deviation from the first-guess as well as the conventional inverse performance are suggested to improve temperature and moisture retrievals and their applications.

Missing and murdered indigenous women and girls in Canada:a new population affinity assessment technique to aid in identification using 3D technology

As of 2015,204 cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls(MMIWG)remained unsolved in Canada,making it a major concern for Canadian Indigenous communities,who are still pressing for the resolution of these *** forensic anthropology,the assessment of population affinity can be useful to help identify *** affinity,previously referred to as ancestry,is evaluated based on morphological analyses,which examine the size and shape of skeletal features,and metric analyses,which utilise skeletal ***,morphological analyses strongly depend on an anthropologist’s experience with human variation,which makes the analyses particularly challenging to reproduce and *** purpose of this study is to improve the rigour of morphological analyses by using 3D technology to quantify relevant cranial nonmetric population affinity *** there is currently little morphological data available for the Canadian Indigenous population,this research aims to develop a new technique that could aid in the identification of *** study comprised a total of 87 adult female crania,including 24 of Canadian Inuit origin,50 of European descent and 13 of African *** samples were imaged using photogrammetry,then analysed using a 3D shape analysis in 3DS *** show that this method is satisfactory in correctly evaluating population affinity with an accuracy of 87.36%(jackknifed:80.46%)and an average repeatability of 97%.Unfortunately,the small Canadian Indigenous sample size impacted the applicability of the results and further research will be required before the technique can be used to aid in the identification of MMIWG in Canada.

Left Hemispherical Subdural Hematoma on the Same Side as the Motor Deficit (Kernohan)

Chronic subdural hematoma represents 25% of traumatic subdural collections;common in elderly subjects with a clear male predominance. It occurs over the age of 50 in more than 90% of cases and 50% of patients have no history of head trauma even if the latter remains the main risk factor with others such as coagulopathy, anticoagulant treatment, chronic alcoholic poisoning. Its discovery is rarely fortuitous and has an important clinical polymorphism including an intracranial hypertension syndrome (complete or incomplete). We report a clinical case of a left hemispheric subacute subdural hematoma with post-traumatic falcorial involvement in a 70-year-old patient admitted with a picture of impaired consciousness and weakness of the left hemibody. The objective of this work is to draw the attention of neurosurgeons and neurologists to the paradoxical existence of the neurological deficit on the same side as the causal brain lesion.

From Academic Nitpicking to a =New Culture Movement＇： How Newspapers Turned Academic Debates into the Center of ~May Fourth＂

Abstract In early 1919, people like Hu Shi and Chen Duxiu were regarded as members of an ivory-tower ＂academic faction＂（xuepai）, embroiled in a debate with an opposing ＂faction.＂ After the May Fourth demonstrations, they were praised as the stars of a ＂New Culture Movement.＂ However, it was not obvious how the circle around Hu Shi and Chert Duxiu was associated with the May Fourth demonstrations. This link hinged on the way in which newspapers like Shenbao reported about the academic debates and the political events of May Fourth. After compartmentalizing the debating academics into fixed xuepai, Shenbao ascribed warlord-political allegiances to them. These made the Hu-Chen circle look like government victims and their ＂factional＂ rivals like the warlords＇ allies. When the atmosphere became hostile to the government during May Fourth, Hu Shi＇s ＂faction＂ became associated with the equally victimized May Fourth demonstrators. Their ideas were regarded as （now popular） expressions of anti-government sentiment, and soon this was labeled the core of the ＂New Culture Movement.＂ The idea and rhetoric of China＇s ＂New Culture Movement＂ in this way emerged out of the fortuitous concatenation of academic debates, newspaper stories, and political events.

Bioactive Ca-P scaffolds used for bone reconstruction

Bioactive ceramic scaffolds HA·TCP, aimed to be applied in clinic, were evaluated both in vitro and in vivo models. HA·TCP was supposed as a completely biodegradable material and designed as a scaffold to be used for bone reconstruction or regeneration. Materials processing was proposed and physical properties as well as microstructure feature were characterized. Biological postulation of the relationship between seeding density and proliferation, and viability of human osteoblasts cultured on the porous HA·TCP were quantitatively measured. Bone reconstruction was investigated both in vitro and in vivo by using these biodegradable scaffolds with pore sizes ranged in 200400 μm in diameter. The degradable scaffold supported cellular proliferation of seeded osteoblasts on the scaffold and shown normal differentiated function in vitro. Seeding density is an important factor for cell attachment and proliferation expression and has been considerably discussed. Suitable pore size of the scaffolds is required if promotion of bone reconstruction is desired. Clinical trials show that HA·TCP scaffolds are successful applied for bone reconstruction and regeneration and can be completely degraded in human body in 12 months. This approach suggests the feasibility of using porous HA·TCP scaffold materials for the transplantation of autogenous osteoblasts to regenerate bone tissue.
