Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and large for gestational age (LGA) offspring are two common pregnancy complications. Connections also exist between the two conditions, including mutual maternal risk factors for the conditions and an increased prevalence of LGA offspring amongst pregnancies affected by GDM. Thus, it is important to elucidate potential shared underlying mechanisms of both LGA and GDM. One potential mechanistic link relates to macronutrient metabolism. Indeed, derangement of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism is present in GDM, and maternal biomarkers of glucose and lipid control are associated with LGA neonates in such pregnancies. The aim of this paper is therefore to reflect on the existing nutritional guidelines for GDM in light of our understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of GDM and LGA offspring. Lifestyle modification is first line treatment for GDM, and while there is some promise that nutritional interventions may favourably impact outcomes, there is a lack of definitive evidence that changing the macronutrient composition of the diet reduces the incidence of either GDM or LGA offspring. The quality of the available evidence is a major issue, and rigorous trials are needed to inform evidence-based treatment guidelines.

To evaluate the potential effect of Ankaferd Blood Stopper(ABS)and oxytocin(OT)in an experimental endometriosis model,18 female Sprague Dawley rats were used in this *** animals were divided randomly into three groups after surgical induction of endometriosis:group 1:control group(isotonic NaCl,1 mL/kg/day,intramuscular,n=6);group 2:OT group(OT,80 U/kg/day,intramuscular,n=6);group 3:ABS group(ABS,1.5 mL/kg/day,intraperitoneal,n=6).Each group was treated for four weeks(two times per week).Volumes of endometriotic explants were measured in biopsy samples for histopathological *** endothelial growth factor(VEGF),monocyte chemotactic protein-1(MCP-1),and tumour necrosis factor(TNF-α)levels were measured in plasma and peritoneal *** explant volumes were significantly decreased after OT administration(P<0.0001).The epithelial score was significantly decreased in both treatment groups compared to the control group(P<0.05).TUNEL immunohistochemistry showed more apoptotic changes in the endometriosis foci(gland epithelium and surrounding tissue)in the OT group than in the control group(P<0.05).The levels of VEGF,MCP-1,and TNF-αwere significantly reduced in the OT group(P<0.05),whereas no significant changes in protein levels were found in the ABS-applied *** results indicate that OT has greater potential as a therapeutic agent in experimentally induced peritoneal endometriosis,where ABS,which is a VEGF modulator,appears to act through different mechanisms to show its palliative effects on a rat model of peritoneal endometriosis.

Objective: The objective of this study was to examine the effect of hypothyroidism on hearing function in patients surgically treated for differentiated thyroid cancer and subsequently experienced hypothyroidism during preparation for follow up I-131 scintigraphy scan by either recombinant human thyroid stimulating hormone(rhTSH) treatment or thyroid hormone withdrawal(THW).Methods: A total of 55 patients undergoing I-131 scintigraphy scan following surgeries for differentiated thyroid cancer were included in the study, including 25 patients prepared by administration of recombinant TSH(rhTSH Group) and 30 patients by thyroid hormone withdrawal(THW Group).Results: Air conduction thresholds at 1, 2 and 4 kHz for both ears were higher during hypothyroid period than during euthyroid period for patients in the THW group(p < 0.05) but not for patients in the rhTSH ***: Sensorineural hearing loss was detected, especially at low frequencies, in patients with DTC after surgical treatment whose hormone replacement therapy was withdrawn but not in those receiving rhTSH. It is therefore preferred to use rhTSH when preparing for I-131 scintigraphy scan in patients at risk for hearing loss.

BACKGROUND： Activation of the sympathetic nervous system plays an important role in regulating cardiovascular actions. P wave parameters can provide general information on central cardiovascular autonomic regulatory responses, which are altered in patients with anxiety disorders and depression. In particular, there are no reports addressing changes in P wave duration and dispersion. OBJECTIVE： To compare the differences in P wave duration and P wave dispersion between patients with anxiety disorders and depression, because patients with anxiety disorders and depression develop abnormal electrocardiograms. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： A non-randomized concurrent controlled study was performed. Patients with depression and general anxiety disorders were admitted at the psychiatry outpatient clinics of the Medical Faculty of Duezce University of Turkey between May 2005 and October 2006. PARTICIPANTS： A total of 71 consecutive patients with depression and anxiety disorders, as well as 50 physically and mentally healthy age- and gender-matched controls were selected. METHODS： Electrocardiogram records were obtained at the time of admission to the outpatient clinics. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： P wave duration and P wave dispersion were measured. RESULTS： Both the maximum （Prnax） and minimum （Pmin） P wave duration were greater in patients with psychiatric disorders than in healthy controls. Pmax was significantly greater in patients with depression or anxiety disorders （Bonferroni test, P 〈 0.017）. The P wave dispersion was similar between patients and controls （P 〉 0.017）. P waves were similar between panic patients and other anxiety patients. Beck depression results were positively correlated with Prawn and Prnax （r= 0.374, 0.302, P = 0.013, 0.049, respectively）, and not associated with P wave dispersion （P 〉 0.05）. This study aims to examine the time-varying efficiency of the Turkish stock market’s major stock index and eight sectoral indices,including the industrial,financial,service,information technology,basic metals,tourism,real estate investment,and chemical petrol plastic,during the COVID-19 outbreak and the global financial crisis(GFC)within the framework of the adaptive market *** study employs multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis to illustrate these sectors’multifractality and short-and long-term *** results show that all sectoral returns have greater persis-tence during the COVID-19 outbreak than during the ***,the real estate and information technology industries had the lowest levels of efficiency during the GFC and the COVID-19 ***,the fat-tailed distribution has a greater effect on multifractality in these *** results validate the conclusions of the adaptive market hypothesis,according to which arbitrage opportunities vary over time,and contribute to policy formulation for future outbreak-induced economic crises.

The goal of this study was to optimize the constitutive parameters of foundation soils using a k-means algorithm with clustering analysis. A database was collected from unconfined compression tests, Proctor tests and grain distribution tests of soils taken from three different types of foundation pits： raft foundations, partial raft foundations and strip foundations. k-means algorithm with clustering analysis was applied to determine the most appropriate foundation type given the un- confined compression strengths and other parameters of the different soils.

Effect of FFP2/N95 facemask wear on retinal and choroidal thickness profile in healthy subjects

AIM: To investigate the influence of non-oil 95(N95)/filtering facepiece 2(FFP2) facemask wear on retinal thickness, choroidal thickness(CT), retinal nerve fiber layer thickness(RNFLT), and ganglion cell layer thickness(GCLT) in healthy ***: In this prospective study, 53 healthy participants who used FFP2/N95 facemask were enrolled. Participants underwent optical coherence tomography imaging before and at 1 and 4h following FFP2/N95 facemask wear. The last imaging session was performed 1h after FFP2/N95 removal. Retinal thickness, CT, RNFLT, and GCLT were assessed at each session. Vital parameters were also assessed. RESULTS: The pulse rate of the subjects significantly decreased at 1 and 4h compared to baseline values(P<0.05). No significant changes in retinal thickness, RNFLT, and GCLT were observed in the study. CT profile showed a significant increase at all measured locations except 1-mm temporal, 1-mm inferior and 2-mm inferior points following FFP2/N95 wear which turned to baseline values after FFP2/N95 removal. Pulse rate and CT changes at 4h were significantly correlated(P<0.05).CONCLUSION: Parasympathetic activation during FFP2/N95 facemask wear might have a role on elevated CT measurements in healthy individuals by virtue of increased choroidal blood flow.

Visualization literacy,the ability to interpret and comprehend visual designs,is recognized as an essential skill by the visualization *** identify and investigate barriers to comprehending parallel coordinates plots(PCPs),one of the advanced graphical representations for the display of multivariate and high-dimensional *** develop a parallel coordinates literacy test with diverse images generated using popular PCP software *** test improves PCP literacy and evaluates the user’s literacy *** introduce an interactive educational tool that assists the teaching and learning of parallel coordinates by offering a more active learning *** this pedagogical tool,we aim to advance novice users’parallel coordinates literacy *** on the hypothesis that an interactive tool that links traditional Cartesian Coordinates with PCPs interactively will enhance PCP literacy further than static slides,we compare the learning experience using traditional slides with our novel software tool and investigate the efficiency of the educational software with an online,crowdsourced ***-study results show that our pedagogical tool positively impacts a user’s PCP comprehension.
