Evaluation of proximal tubule functions in children with COVID‑19:a prospective analytical study

Background There are limited numbers of studies focusing on renal efects of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)infection and proximal tubular dysfunction in children with COVID-19 infections.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the functions of the proximal tubule in hospitalized children with confrmed acute COVID-19.Methods The children who were hospitalized for confrmed COVID-19 were included in this prospective descriptive analysis.The presence of at least two of the following four abnormalities was used to diagnose proximal tubule injury:abnormal tubular reabsorption of phosphate,normoglycemic glycosuria,hyperuricosuria,and proteinuria.Results A total of 115 patients were included in the study.About a third of the individuals had elevated blood creatinine levels or proteinuria.In addition,abnormal renal tubular phosphate loss measured by renal tubular phosphate loss was found in 10(8.7%)patients,as was hyperuricosuria in 28.6%.As a result,total proximal tubular dysfunction was found in 24(20.9%)patients.Conclusions One in every fve children with acute COVID-19 infections had proximal tubular dysfunction,according to our data.Although,the rate of proximal tubular dysfunction was lower than in adults,it should be noted.The recovery of proximal tubular function in children with COVID-19 should be followed.

Development of gluten-free tarhana formulations:Part II.Utilization of legume composite flours and baker’s yeast

Many gluten-free foods are prepared from starch-rich ingredients with low protein and fiber content,resulting in poor nutritional and functional quality.In this study,five different composite legume flours which are prepared from different levels of chickpea,lentil,common bean,soybean and lupin flours were used at 75%level in gluten-free tarhana formulations to improve nutritional quality.Also,effect of baker’s yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae)at different levels(2.5%and 5.0%)on physicochemical and sensory attributes of the samples containing composite flours was investigated.The inclusion of composite flours(75%)resulted in lower L^(*) and hue values in tarhana than gluten-free sample without composite flour.The viscosity of tarhana soup containing“25%chickpea+50%lentil”composite flour(F2)was similar to traditional wheat tarhana soup(p>0.05).The utilization of composite flours containing“50%chickpea+25%lentil”(F1),F2,and“25%chickpea+25%lentil+25%common bean”(F3)in tarhana revealed comparable oil absorption capacity to wheat tarhana.Besides,pH and foaming capacity values of the samples containing composite flours were greater than wheat tarhana and gluten-free tarhana without composite flour.The addition of composite flours elicited markedly higher ash,protein,fat,and mineral content.While phytic acid concentration of tarhana enhanced with the incorporation of composite flour,the use of 5.0%yeast considerably decreased phytic acid content and enriched ash,protein,total phenolic content,Ca,Cu,k,Mg,and P concentrations of tarhana in comparison with tarhana containing 2.5%yeast.The inclusion of F1,F2,and F3 elicited acceptable sensory scores in tarhana.It was concluded that gluten-free tarhana prepared from legume composite flours(especially F1,F2,and F3)+5.0%yeast could offer a nutritious and acceptable alternative for gluten-free diet with greater protein and mineral contents.Based on the findings,further studies may evaluate the use of hydrocolloids to improve the technological and sensory properties of functional

Antibiotic ciprofloxacin removal from aqueous solutions by electrochemically activated persulfate process:Optimization,degradation pathways,and toxicology assessment

Ciprofloxacin(CIP)is a commonly used antibiotic in the fluoroquinolone group and is widely used in medical and veterinary medicine disciplines to treat bacterial infections.When CIP is discharged into the sewage system,it cannot be removed by a conventional wastewater treatment plant because of its recalcitrant characteristics.In this study,boron-doped diamond anode and persulfate were used to degrade CIP in an aquatic solution by creating an electrochemically activated persulfate(EAP)process.Ironwas added to the system as a coactivator and the process was called EAP+Fe.The effects of independent variables,including pH,Fe^(2+),persulfate concentration,and electrolysis time on the systemwere optimized using the response surface methodology.The results showed that the EAP+Fe process removed 94%of CIP under the following optimum conditions:A pH of 3,persulfate/Fe^(2+)concentration of 0.4 mmol/L,initial CIP concentration 30 mg/L,and electrolysis time of 12.64 min.CIP removal efficiency was increased from 65.10%to 94.35%by adding Fe^(2+)as a transition metal.CIP degradation products,7 pathways,and 78 intermediates of CIP were studied,and three of those intermediates(m/z 298,498,and 505)were reported.The toxicological analysis based on toxicity estimation software results indicated that some degradation products of CIP were toxic to targeted animals,including fathead minnow,Daphnia magna,Tetrahymena pyriformis,and rats.The optimumoperation costswere similar in EAP and EAP+Fe processes,approximately 0.54€/m^(3).

Radiotherapy for Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors

Objective： Gastrointestinal stromal tumors （GISTs） are rare mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, which fiequently cause intraabdominal metastases. The current standard of care is surgery for localized cases, and adjuvant imatinib is recommended for tumors with a high risk of recurrence. To date. radiotherapy has not been commonly accepted as a part of l-nultimodality treatment approach other than palliation. However, recently published case reports and some small series suggest that radiotherapy is a valuable option for controlling locally progressive, drug-resistant disease. The aim of this review is to provide a viewpoint from a radiation oncologist concerning the management of GISTs, especially rectal GIST, and clarify the role and technical aspects of radiotherapy in the treatment approach. Data Sources： A comprehensive search in PubMed using the keywords ＂＇radiotherapy for rectal GIST＂ and ＂＇rectal GIST＂ was undertaken. The literature search included the related articles after 1995. Study Selection： The main articles including rectal GIST case reports and GIST series containing rectal cases were the primary references. Results： Surgery is tile mainstay of treatment, However, to date, radiotherapy is included in the multidisciplinary treatment strategy of rectal GISTs in some circumstances with palliative, adjuvant, or definitive intent using different treatment doses and fields. Conchlsions： Recently reported Iong-terrn local control rates indicate that GIST is a radiosensitive disease. This makes radiotherapy a valuable alternative in GIST management with curative intent, especially in patients who （ I ） cannot tolerate or are resistant to chemotherapy agents. （2） have an unresectable disease, （3） have a gross or microscopic residual disease after surgery, and （4） have a recurrent disease.

A Comparative Study of Metaheuristic Optimization Algorithms for Solving Real-World Engineering Design Problems

Real-world engineering design problems with complex objective functions under some constraints are relatively difficult problems to solve.Such design problems are widely experienced in many engineering fields,such as industry,automotive,construction,machinery,and interdisciplinary research.However,there are established optimization techniques that have shown effectiveness in addressing these types of issues.This research paper gives a comparative study of the implementation of seventeen new metaheuristic methods in order to optimize twelve distinct engineering design issues.The algorithms used in the study are listed as:transient search optimization(TSO),equilibrium optimizer(EO),grey wolf optimizer(GWO),moth-flame optimization(MFO),whale optimization algorithm(WOA),slimemould algorithm(SMA),harris hawks optimization(HHO),chimp optimization algorithm(COA),coot optimization algorithm(COOT),multi-verse optimization(MVO),arithmetic optimization algorithm(AOA),aquila optimizer(AO),sine cosine algorithm(SCA),smell agent optimization(SAO),and seagull optimization algorithm(SOA),pelican optimization algorithm(POA),and coati optimization algorithm(CA).As far as we know,there is no comparative analysis of recent and popular methods against the concrete conditions of real-world engineering problems.Hence,a remarkable research guideline is presented in the study for researchersworking in the fields of engineering and artificial intelligence,especiallywhen applying the optimization methods that have emerged recently.Future research can rely on this work for a literature search on comparisons of metaheuristic optimization methods in real-world problems under similar conditions.

Deep neural network ensembles for remote sensing land cover and land use classification

With the advancement of satellite technology,a considerable amount of very high-resolution imagery has become available to be used for the Land Cover and Land Use(LCLU)classification task aiming to categorize remotely sensed images based on their semantic content.Recently,Deep Neural Networks(DNNs)have been widely used for different applications in the field of remote sensing and they have profound impacts;however,improvement of the generalizability and robustness of the DNNs needs to be progressed further to achieve higher accuracy for a variety of sensing geometries and categories.We address this problem by deploying three different Deep Neural Network Ensemble(DNNE)methods and creating a comparative analysis for the LCLU classification task.DNNE enables improvement of the performance of DNNs by ensuring the diversity of the models that are combined.Thus,enhances the generalizability of the models and produces more robust and generalizable outcomes for LCLU classification tasks.The experimental results on NWPU-RESISC45 and AID datasets demonstrate that utilizing the aggregated information from multiple DNNs leads to an increase in classification performance,achieves state-of-the-art,and promotes researchers to make use of DNNE.

The aggregate and sectoral time‑varying market efficiency during crisis periods in Turkey:a comparative analysis with COVID‑19 outbreak and the global financial crisis

This study aims to examine the time-varying efficiency of the Turkish stock market’s major stock index and eight sectoral indices,including the industrial,financial,service,information technology,basic metals,tourism,real estate investment,and chemical petrol plastic,during the COVID-19 outbreak and the global financial crisis(GFC)within the framework of the adaptive market hypothesis.This study employs multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis to illustrate these sectors’multifractality and short-and long-term dependence.The results show that all sectoral returns have greater persis-tence during the COVID-19 outbreak than during the GFC.Second,the real estate and information technology industries had the lowest levels of efficiency during the GFC and the COVID-19 outbreak.Lastly,the fat-tailed distribution has a greater effect on multifractality in these industries.Our results validate the conclusions of the adaptive market hypothesis,according to which arbitrage opportunities vary over time,and contribute to policy formulation for future outbreak-induced economic crises.

Understanding pedestrian behavior and spatial relations:A pedestrianized area in Besiktas,Istanbul

This research provides a mixed method of investigating and analyzing pedestrian behavior in pedestrianized areas,which is one of the human-based urban development practices.The relationship between pedestrian behavior and perception of the city is discussed through a combination of architect and urban planner Gordon Cullen’s theory and Space Syntax methodology.This study examines the development and implementation of the methodology to understand the relationship between pedestrian behavior and space in Besiktas koyici settlement,Istanbul.The methodology,integrated with on-site observations(observing 10 min at five different observation points in the settlement at predetermined times on weekdays and weekends),surveys(determining pedestrian movement and perception in terms of Cullen’s theory)and spatial configuration(Space Syntax analysis(connectivity,integrity)done with DepthMapX software),aims to analyze pedestrian behavior patterns.The concepts of sense of place and content,as well as the effects of their sub-concepts on their behaviors,were revealed because of a survey conducted with students and architects of variety of educational levels who are daily users of the field.Pedestrian counting and observations were used to create density,activity,and mobility maps of the area.It has been found that pedestrianized areas have a significant impact on pedestrian behavior through influencing vitality and appeal and that Cullen’s theory may be used to analyze pedestrian behavior and perceptions of the city.The study showed that spatial configuration and Cullen’s theory effect pedestrian movement by complementing each other.

Effects of COVID-19 fear and anxiety on attitudes towards complementary and alternative medicine use in women with gynecological cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic

Objective:Patients with gynecological cancer commonly use complementary and alternative medicine(CAM)methods to cope with the disease.However,despite the existence of treatment strategies,the effect of fear and anxiety caused by coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic on attitudes about CAM use is unclear.This study was carried out to investigate the effect of fear and anxiety experienced by patients with gynecological cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic on their attitudes towards the use of CAM.Methods:This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study that included 177 women with gynecological cancer;participants were recruited from a social networking site for cancer patients in Turkey between June and December 2021.Data were collected using an online survey that included the Personal Information Form,the Fear of COVID-19 Scale,the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale,and the Attitude Towards Holistic Complementary and Alternative Medicine Scale.Descriptive statistics,t-test,Pearson’s correlation test,and simple linear and multiple regression analyses were performed to analyze the data.Results:During the pandemic,55.4%of the participants reported using CAM methods,but only 22.6%were using CAM before the pandemic.The participants who used CAM during the pandemic also scored higher on the fear of COVID-19 and coronavirus anxiety scales(20.69±5.37 and 13.09±6.29,respectively)compared to the participants who did not use CAM(9.29±2.72 and 6.35±2.06,respectively).Fear of COVID-19 accounted for 52%of the CAM attitude score,while coronavirus anxiety accounted for 15%of the CAM attitude score.Fear of COVID-19 and coronavirus anxiety together accounted for 53%of CAM attitude.Conclusion:Gynecological cancer patients with high levels of COVID-19-related anxiety and fear during the pandemic used CAM more.Given that the psychological effects of the pandemic will continue in the coming years,CAM use should be evaluated as a coping strategy,especially due to the COVID-19-related anxiety and fear experienced by patients with gynecologica

制备了2个新的含有N,N,N-三甲基丙烷-1-铵基团和N,N,N-三甲基戊烷-1-铵基团的苯乙酮-(4-羟基苯腙)配体:(E)-3-(4-(1-(2-(4-hydroxybenzoyl)hydrazono)ethyl)phenoxy)-N,N,N-trimethylpropan-1-ammonium perchlorate(H2L1)和(E)-3-(4-(1-(2-(4-hy-droxybenzoyl)hydrazono)ethyl)phenoxy)-N,N,N-trimethylpentane-1-ammonium perchlorate(H2L2)。以这2个配体分别合成了2个新的铜配合物:[Cu(HL1)2]和[Cu(HL2)2],研究了这些配体和配合物的DNA结合和切割活性,还研究了DNA切割的机理以及化合物浓度对DNA切割反应的影响。紫外-可见光谱结果表明,所有化合物均优先通过主沟结合模式与DNA结合,在甲基绿(主要的沟结合剂)的存在下切割DNA的活性受到抑制的结果也支持这一结论。电泳研究的结果则表明,化合物在存在或不存在氧化剂(H2O2)的情况下均对质粒DNA表现出显著的切割活性,活性主要取决于化合物的浓度。化合物通过水解途径裂解pBR322 DNA,在存在不同自由基清除剂情况下的DNA裂解实验也支持这一结论。
