objectives:This study used Deinococcus radiodurans,which is extremely resistant to oxidative damage,genotoxic chemicals,high levels of ionising and ultraviolet radiation and drying,and its Vitreoscilla haemoglobin(vgb)gene-cloned recombinant with the vgb−recombinant strain as a control.In addition to the conditions wherein bacteria have an optimum Cr(Ⅲ)biosorption capacity,the contribution of the vgb gene to the biosorption ability of the bacteria has been investigated by providing the organism with a more oxygenic environment.Methods:bacteria were produced and metal stock solution was prepared.To determine the Cr(Ⅲ)removal capacities of wild and recombinant D.radiodurans strains,the residual metal concentration in aqueous media at the beginning and after biosorption was determined in Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer.Some optimal conditions were created for the biosorption conditions to occur.Conclusions:The optimisation tests showed that Cr(Ⅲ)reached the highest biosorption capacity within 15 minutes at a metal concentration of 2,000 ppm,30°C,pH 5.0 and 150 rpm stirring speed in all the three bacteria.The vgb gene had no significant contribution to the biosorption capacity.

objective:To investigate the in vitro antimicrobial potential of Thermopsis turcica Kit Tan,Vural&Kckdk against periodoutopathogenie bacteria,its antioxidant activity and cytotoxic effect on various cancer cell lines.Methods:In vitro antimicrobial activities of elhanol.methanol,ethyl acetate(ElAc,n-hexane and water extracts of Thermopsis turcica herb against periodontopathogenic bacteria,Aggregatibacter actinnmycelemconilans ATCC 29523 and Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 were tested by agar well diffusion,minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)and minimal bactericidal concentration(MbC),Antioxidant properties of the extracts were evaluatod by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl radical scavenging activity and p-carotene bleaching methods.Amounts of phenolic contents of the extracts were also analysed by using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent.Additionally,cytotoxic activity of the extracts on androgcn-insensilivc prostate cancer,androgen—sensitive prostate cancer,chronic myelogenous leukemia and acute promyelocytic leukemia bunian cancer cell lines were determined by 3-4,5-dimelhylthiazol-2-yh-2,5-diphenyltclrazolium bromide assay.Human gingival fibroblast cells were used as a control.Results:our data showed that ELAc extract had the highest antimicrobial effect on Aggregatibacter actinomycetemitans(MIC:1.562 mg/ml_MHC:3.124 mg/ml.)and Porph yromonas gingiralis(MIC:0.781 mg/mL,MbC:1.562 mg/mL).In antioxidant assays.ElAc extract exhibited also the highest radical scavenging activity[IC_(50)=(30.0±0.3)μg/ml.]and the highest inhibition[(74.35±0.30)%]|against lineloic acide oxidation.The amount of phenolic content of it was also the highest[(l62.5±l.2)μg/mg gallic acid].In cytotoxic assay,only etbanol[IC_(50)=(80.00±1.21)μg/ml.]and EtAc extract[IC_(50)=(70.0±0.9)μg/ml]were toxic on acute promyeloeytic leukemia cells at 20—100μg/mL.P.However,no toxic effect was observed on human gingival fibroblast cells.Cunclusions:According to our findings,owing to its antioxidant and cytotoxic potential,EtAc exlrael might include

objective:Type 1 diabetes is a chronic illness which can have a negative effect on the health care and development of children and can put their lives in danger.This descriptive study aimed to determine the quality of life and the factors affecting it of children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory(PedsQL).Methods:The study was conducted in the Child Endocrinology Unit of a University Hospital in bursa,Turkey.Totally 64 children eight-12 years and 85 adolescents aged 13-18 with type 1 diabetes and their parents were recruited.HbAlc measurements were obtained from the records of the endocrinology clinicare,which were made once every three months,and the average of the last three measurements was taken in the study.The PedsQL was used to measure quality of life of the children and adolescents.The data was analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 and P onsidered significant.The demographic data of the children and parents were analyzed using means and percentiles.Pearson’s correlation analysis was used to assess the relationship between two averages.Results:of the sub-groups on the scale,affective and school function scores were somewhat low,and social function scores were high.The quality of life scores of the children and adolescents were found to correlate with those of their parents.A negative correlation was found between HbAlc levels and adolescent quality of life,a positive correlation was found between the child’s age and the quality of life of the child and parents,and a negative correlation was found between the number of children in the family and the quality of life of the child and parents.Conclusions:An evaluation of the quality of life after a diagnosis of diabetes can be used to assess the problems which may be faced by children and adolescents and to combat these problems.

This study aimed to investigate changes in postmortem urotensin Ⅱ receptor(UTR)levels in brain and kidney tissues in a rat model of cardiac ischemia.The rats were divided into two groups:a control group and a cardiac ischemia-induced group.Cardiac ischemia was created by an intraperitoneal injection of a single lethal dose of isoproterenol(ISo;850 mg/kg).Plasma UT,blood urea nitrogen,and creatinine levels were determined 0 h postmortem.brain and kidney UTR mRNA expression levels were determined 0,1,3,6,12,24,4&and 72 h postmortem.The histopathological appearance of brain and kidney tissues was also evaluated.Plasma UT and plasma creatinine levels were increased in the cardiac ischemia-induced group as compared with those in the control group(Popathological changes in brain and cerebellum tissue.The morphological evaluation revealed Purkinje cell degeneration(P=0.037)and dark neurons(P=0.004).The UTR expression level decreased after 1 h postmortem in the brain and after 3 h postmortem in the kidneys in the cardiac ischemia-induced group as compared with that in the control group(Pobserved changes in UTR expression levels may be valuable in clinical practice in the field of forensic medicine.These changes may be used as a marker in postmortem evaluations of sudden death caused by ischemia-induced cardiac shock.

objective:To determine the concentrations of Fe,Zn,Ni,Cu,Mn,Pb,Cd and Co in macroalgae from Sinop coasts of the Sounthern black Sea.Methods:Chlorophyta-green algae(Chaetomorpha spp.,Cladophora spp.,Ulva linza,Ulva intestinalis,Ulva lactuca,Ulva rigida);ochrophyta-brown alga[Cystoseira barbata(C.barbata)]and Rhodophyta-red algae(Ceramium spp.,Corallina panizzoi)were collected seasonally in the year 2010 from the upper infralittoral zone of inner harbour,outer harbour,Gerze and Ayancık of Sinop coasts of the black Sea.The samples were analysed by atomic absorption spectrophotometer in order to determine heavy metal levels in different algal division species along Sinop coasts and to provide information of marine environment quality as marine strategy framework directive is aimed to ensure good environmental status of the seas by 2020 in the European Union.Results:The results showed that metal concentrations in all studied green algae,brown alga and red algae increase in the order:Cdobobobons,among the essential elements the highest concentrations exhibited by Fe,in Gerze station-(2328±89)μg/g dry weight in Chaetomorpha spp.;(2143±78)μg/g dry weight in C.barbata and(968±20)μg/g dry weight in Ceramium spp.Conclusions:The highest accumulation of different metals in the analysed algae species were:Fe and Co in Chaetomorpha spp.,Zn in C.barbata,Ni and Cu in Ulva linza,Mn in Ulva intestinalis,Pb and Cd in Corallina panizzoi.

Solid amine sorbents for Co_(2) capture by chemical adsorption: A review

Amines are well-known for their reversible reactions with Co_(2),which make them ideal for Co_(2) capture from several gas streams,including flue gas.In this respect,selective Co_(2) absorption by aqueous alkanolamines is the most mature technology but the process is energy intensive and has also corrosion problems.both disadvantages can be diminished to a certain extent by chemical adsorption of Co_(2) selectively.The most important element of the chemical adsorption of Co_(2) involves the design and development of a suitable adsorbent which consist of a porous support onto which an amine is attached or immobilized.Such an adsorbent is often called as solid amine sorbent.This review covers solid amine-based studies which are developed and published in recent years.First,the review examines several different types of porous support materials,namely,three mesoporous silica(MCM-41,SbA-15 and KIT-6)and two polymeric supports(PMMA and PS)for Co_(2) adsorption.Emphasis is given to the synthesis,modifications and characterizations-such as bET and PXRD data-of them.Amination of these supports to obtain a solid amine sorbent through impregnation or grafting is reviewed comparatively.Focus is given to the adsorption mechanisms,material characteristics,and synthesis methods which are discussed in detail.Significant amount of original data are also presented which makes this review unique.Finally,relevant Co_(2) adsorption(or equilibrium)capacity data,and cyclic adsorption/desorption performance and stability of important classes of solid amine sorbents are critically reviewed.These include severa PEI or TEPA impregnated adsorbents and APTES-grafted systems.

background Currently,there is no comprehensive and multidisciplinary recommendation study covering all aspects of pediatric dysphagia(PD).This study aimed to generate PD management recommendations with methods that can be used in clinical practice to fill this gap in our country and in the world,from the perspective of experienced multidisciplinary experts.Methods This recommendation paper was generated by a multidisciplinary team,using the seven-step process and a three-round modified Delphi survey via e-mail.First,ten open-ended questions were created,and then detailed recommendations including management,diagnosis,treatment,and follow-up were created with the answers from these questions.Each recommendation item was voted on by the experts as overall consensus(strong recommendation),approaching consensus(weak recommendation)and divergent consensus(not recommended).Results In the 1st Delphi round,a questionnaire of 414 items was prepared based on the experts’responses to ten open-ended questions.In the 2nd Delphi round,59.2%of these items were accepted as pre-recommendation.In the 3rd Delphi round,62.6%of 246 items were accepted for inclusion in the proposals.The final version recommendations consisted of 154 items.Conclusions This study includes comprehensive and detailed answers for every problem that could be posed in clinical practice for the management of PD,and recommendations are for all pediatric patients with both oropharyngeal and esophageal dysphagia.

AIM:To evaluate the changes in ocular blood flow with color Doppler ultrasonography(CDU) after intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide(IVTA) injection.METHoDS:A total of 46 patients who underwent IVTA(4 mg/0.1 mL) injection for diabetic macular edema(DME)(n =22), central retinal vein occlusion(CRVo)(n =12) and choroidal neovascular membrane(CNVM)(n =12) were included in the study. Peak systolic velocity(PSV), end diastolic velocity(EDV) and resistivity index(RI) were measured from the ophthalmic artery(oA), the central retinal artery(CRA) and the posterior ciliary artery(PCA)of each patient with CDU before, at the end of the first week and at the end of the first month following IVTA injection.RESULTS:In the DME group, PSV of oA at the first of the first month(mean ±SD)(37.48 ±10.87 cm/s) increased compared to pre-injection value(31.39 ±10.84 cm/s)(P =0.048). There was a statistically significant decrease(P =0.049) in PSV of CRA at the end of the first month(7.97±2.67 cm/s) compared to the pre-injection(9.47±3.37 cm/s).There was not any statistically significant difference onthe other parameters in the DME group. Also, there was not any statistically significant difference on the ocular blood flow values in the CRVo and CNVM groups.ConcluSIoN:We observed that 4 mg/0.1 mL IVTA increased PSV of oA and decreased PSV of CRA in DME patients and did not have any effect on ocular blood flow values of CRVo and CNVM patients.

The Influence of Heat Treatment on Interaction of Green Tea Flavonoids with Milk Proteins

Several heat treatment norms are applied in the dairy industry during the manufacture of various products. The knowledge on the influence of temperature on the proteins-flavonoid binding is critical for optimization of process conditions. The aim of this study was to establish the effect of heat treatment on the interaction between milk proteins and flavonoids and also determine when to apply heat treatment. Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) analysis revealed that free flavonoids decreased in the presence of milk proteins and a binding ratio (%) was calculated based on this decrease. Three different heat treatment norms were selected (80, 85 and 90℃×10 min). Analyses were carried out in both sodium caseinate and skimmed milk samples to observe the possible effect of milk serum proteins on the interaction. The binding ratio between flavonoids and proteins was found to be higher in the samples where green tea extract (GTE) was added before heat treatment than in the samples where GTE was added after heat treatment in both the skimmed milk and sodium caseinate systems. Results of protein surface hydrophobicity (PSH) index and protein partition also demonstrated that heat treatment must be applied after the addition of GTE to improve the amount of GTE binding to milk proteins.
