Evaluation of the Relation between Cognitive Science and Embodied Cognition

This article delves into the intricate relationship between cognitive science and embodied cognition, offering transformative philosophical insights with profound implications for our understanding of the mind-body connection. In response to the journal’s feedback, we have enhanced the abstract to provide a more comprehensive overview of our study. Background: We trace the historical evolution of ideas, from the inception of cognitive science rooted in analytic philosophy to the groundbreaking contributions of Rodney Brooks and others in the field of artificial intelligence. We also explore the work of scholars such as Agre, Chapman, and Dreyfus, shedding light on the role of cognitive metaphor and the concept of the cognitive unconscious in shaping our understanding of embodied cognition. Purpose: Our study aims to shed light on the central theme that unites these various strands of thought—the rejection of the traditional, transcendental view of the subject in favor of the concept of an embodied subject. This embodied subject actively engages with its environment, shaping consciousness and cognition. This shift in perspective challenges classical epistemological theories and opens new avenues for inquiry. Method: We have conducted a comprehensive literature review to explore the historical development and key concepts in the field of embodied cognition, with a particular focus on the philosophical underpinnings and their integration into cognitive science. Results: Our examination of embodied cognition reveals that the mind is intimately connected to the body, with cognition emerging through interactions with the environment and perceptual experiences. This perspective challenges reductionist notions and demonstrates that mental states cannot be reduced to brain states alone. We also explore the relationship between functionalism and computational states of the brain, illustrating that mental states can be understood in the context of mathematical functions. Concl

Let C be a semidualizing module for a commutative ring R. It is shown that the ：IC-injective dimension has the ability to detect the regularity of R as well as the Pc-projective dimension. It is proved that if D is dualizing for a Noetherian ring R such that idR（D） = n 〈 ∞, then ：ID-idR（f） ≤ n for every flat R-module f. This extends the result due to Enochs and Jenda. finally, over a Noetherian ring R, it is shown that if M is a pure submodule of an R-module N, then/TC-idR（M） ≤ IC-idR（N）. This generalizes the result of Enochs and Holm.

Comparison of different cationic polymers efficacy in fabrication of alginate multilayer microcapsules

In past decades, alginate-based multilayer microcapsules have been given important attention in various pharmaceutical investigations. Alginate-poly l lysine-alginate(APA) is studied the most. Due to the similarity between the structure of polyethyleneimine(PEI) and poly-L-lysine(PLL) and also lower price of PEI than PLL, this study was conducted to compare the efficacy of linear(LPEI) and branch(BPEI) forms of PEI with PLL as covering layers in fabrication of microcapsules. The microcapsules were fabricated using electrostatic bead generator and their shape/size, surface roughness, mechanical strength, and interlayer interactions were also investigated using optical microscopy, AfM, explosion test and fTIR, respectively. furthermore, cytotoxicity was evaluated by comparing the two anionic final covering layers alginate(Alg) and sodium cellulose sulphate(NCS) using MTT test. BPEI was excluded from the rest of the study due to its less capacity to strengthen the microcapsules and also the aggregation of the resultant alginate-BPEI-alginate microcapsules, while LPEI showed properties similar to PLL. MTT test also showed that NCS has no superiority over Alg as final covering layer. Therefore, it is concluded that, LPEI could be considered as a more cost effective alternative to PLL and a promising subject for future studies.

The Impact of fidget Spinners on fine Motor Skills in Individuals with and without ADHD: An Exploratory Analysis

fidget spinners have been marketed as repetitive motion devices that improve attention and motor performance, and as such, they have become quite appealing to individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). To date, no studies have explored changes in brain activity that may occur due to fidgeting in ADHD. Our aim was to use functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) to examine the prefrontal cortex (PfC) during the performance of a standardized fine motor skills test after using a fidget spinner. Eight right-handed adults with ADHD and eight age and gender matched adults without ADHD (4f/4M, 4 control/4 fidget) performed the Purdue Pegboard Test (PPT) while their brain oxygenation was monitored using fNIRS. Relative neural efficiency (RNE) and involvement (RNI) were calculated and analyzed for all subtasks of PPT including the less cognitively demanding fine motor subtasks and more complex assembly tasks. The fidget spinner improved both task performance and RNE in the ADHD group but not the non-ADHD group for the less cognitively demanding subtasks. Our results indicate fidget spinners may improve both relative neural efficiency and fine motor performance in adults with ADHD for less cognitively demanding tasks.

fabrication and Characterisation of Novel Natural Lycopodium clavatum Sporopollenin Microcapsules Loaded In-Situ with Nano-Magnetic Humic Acid-Metal Complexes

Sporopollenin exines microcapsules, derived from the naturally occurring spores of Lycopodium clavatum, have been loaded in-situ with humic acid sodium salt-Zinc (HA-Zn) complex. The chemical treatment method utilised to prepare the sporopollenin microcapsules from raw spores was discussed and the resulted sporopollenin microcapsules were characterised using SEM, TGA and fTIR. Metal complexes of the sodium salt of humic acid and zinc ion were prepared using different protocols and in-situ loaded into the pre-treated sporopollenin microcapsules. The resulted complex was characterised before and after the encapsulation process using fTIR, TGA and XRD techniques. The morphology of the empty and loaded sporopollenin was not altered. Infrared spectroscopy revealed an increase in the absorption for COO– vibrations at 1583 and 1384 cm–1 in the fTIR spectra of HA-Zn complex compared to that of the original sodium salt of humic acid, indicative of bonding of the metal ions in hydrated form to the carboxyl or phenolic hydroxyl groups or both of the sodium humate molecules. TGA results of the HA-Zn complex loaded sporopollenin showed that around %15 of residual HA-Zn was successfully encapsulated indicative of the efficiency of the protocol used. We showed also that biodegradable magnetite nanoparticles can be surface modified with HA and encapsulated into sporopollenin. The resulted biosorbents microcapsules can be used for enhanced magnetic removal of either heavy metals or HA from different aqueous media.

Introduction: Microvillous inclusion disease (MVD) or microvillous atrophy disorder is a congenital disorder of the small intestinal epithelial cells that presents with persistent and severe diarrhea and it is characterized by enterocytes abnormalities [1] 08D0C9EA79f9BACE118C8200AA004BA90B02000000080000000E0000005f005200650066003300380035003800380033003700360030000000 . for these children, prognosis is generally poor due to metabolic acidosis with poor compensation. To our experiment, this disease is very rare in Iran and it is yet unreported, so we decided to report two consecutive siblings with the same disease from Iran. Report of Cases: Two siblings were born to healthy parents. Parents were cousins. Both siblings were hospitalized due to severe diarrhea starting shortly after breast feeding. The frequency of diarrhea in both cases was 10 to 17 times per day and their stools were loose and green. Histological studies of both siblings revealed duodenal mucosa with complete flattening of villi (total villous atrophy). Superficial lining cells showed atrophy. Crypts showed no hyperplasia, however it showed distortion and difference in size. By PAS staining and CD10 staining, a poorly developed brush border and typical inclusions were seen in apical boarder of enterocytes. Electron microscopy was performed for the second case and showed microvillous involution and inclusions in the apical part of the epithelial cells. Discussion: Microvillous congenital atrophy is a rare congenital disorder. Due to rareness of congenital microvillous atrophy (CMA), it is crucial to distinguish it from other diseases with persistent and severe diarrhea as soon as possible.
