Mapping surface water erosion potential in the Soummam watershed in Northeast Algeria with RUSLE model

The present study aims to estimate the annual soil loss in the Soummam watershed in the northeast of Algeria,using the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation(RUSLE),geographic information system(GIS),and remote sensing(RS).RUSLE model has been used for modelling the main factors involved in erosive *** Soummam watershed covers a surface area of 9108.45 km^2 of irregular shape,northeast–southwest towards *** is characterized by an altitude varying between 2 m in the northeast and 2308 m in the *** showed that the average erosivity factor(R)is 70.64(MJ·mm)/(ha·h·year)and the maximum value reaches 140(MJ·mm)/(ha·h·year),the average soil erodibility factor(K)is 0.016(t·h·ha)/(MJ·ha·mm)and maximum values reach 0.0204(t·h·ha)/(MJ·ha·mm)in the southeast regions of the watershed,the average slope length and steepness factor(LS)is 9.79 and the mean C factor is estimated to be *** maps integration of different factors of RUSLE in GIS with their database,allowed with a rapid and efficient manner to highlight complexity and factors interdependence in the erosion risk *** resulting map for soils losses,with an average erosion rate of 6.81 t/(ha·year)shows a low erosion(<7.41 t/(ha·year))which covers 73.46%of the total area of the basin,and a medium erosion(7.42 to 19.77 t/(ha·year)),which represents 17.66%of the *** with extreme erosion risk exceeding 32.18 t/(ha·year)cover more than 3.54%of the basin *** results can certainly aid in implementation of soil management and conservation practices to reduce the soil erosion in the Soummam watershed.

DYNAMICAL ANALYSIS OF A 3-D CHAOTIC SYSTEM WITH ONLY TWO QUADRATIC NONLINEARITIES

The paper reports the dynamical study of a three-dimensional quadratic autonomous chaotic system with only two quadratic nonlinearities, which is a special case of the so-called conjugate Lue system. Basic properties of this system are analyzed by means of Lyapunov exponent spectrum and bifurcation diagram. The analysis shows that the system has complex dynamics with some interesting characteristics in which there are several periodic regions, but each of them has quite different periodic orbits.

Congenital Heart Disease Referred for Surgery: Analysis and Epidemiological Description in the Cardiology Department of CHU Ignace Deen

Introduction: Congenital heart disease includes all cardiac and vascular malformations. It accounts for approximately one third of all congenital malformations and is a public health problem, particularly in developing countries. The aim of this study was to analyze the epidemiological, clinical and paraclinical aspects of congenital heart disease. Methods: This was a retrospective descriptive and analytical study based on the records of 135 patients referred for surgery and followed up in the cardiology department of the Ignace Deen University Hospital, collected in November 2022. Results: Hospital prevalence was 5%. The mean age was 71 months, ranging from 1 month to 19 years. The age group over 24 months was the most represented (62%). The M/F sex ratio was 1.36. Urban origin was predominant (58%). The rate of children not attending school or dropping out was high (16%). Siblings with fewer than 4 children were the most common (88%). A heart murmur was the most frequent sign (78%), followed by cyanosis (36%) and heart failure (29%). The association between heart murmurs and CHD was proven with a p-value Conclusion: CHDs represent the main indication for paediatric cardiac surgery and follow-up (95%). We stress the importance of implementing a screening and management strategy for congenital heart disease.

A NEW SIMPLE 2-D PIECEWISE LINEAR MAP

A new simple piecewise linear map of the plane is presented and analyzed, then a detailed study of its dynamical behaviour is described, along with some other dynamical phenomena, especially fixed points and their stability, observation of a new chaotic attractors obtained via border collision bifurcation. An important resuk about coexisting chaotic attractors is also numerically studied and discussed.

In this paper, a non-existence condition for homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits in n-dimensional, continuous-time, and smooth systems is obtained, Based on this result and an elementary example, it can be conjectured that there is a fourth kind of chaos in polynomial ordinary differential equation （ODE） systems characterized by the nonexistence of homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits.

Affirming nonlinear optical coefficient constancy from z-scan measurement

Goodness of fit is demonstrated for theoretical calculation of z-scan data based on beams propagating in the nonlinear medium and the Fresnel–Kirchhoff diffraction integral in experiments with high nonlinear refraction and absorption. The constancy of nonlinear optical parameters is achieved regardless of sample thickness and laser intensity, which clarifies the physical significance of optical parameters. We have obtained γ = 2.0 × 10-19 m2/W and β = 5.0 × 10-13 m/W for carbon disulfide excited by a pulsed laser at 800 nm with pulse duration of 35 fs,which are independent of sample thickness and laser intensity. Affirming constancy of the extracted parameters to the incident light intensity may become a practice to verify the goodness of the z-scan experiment.

Obstetric Hemorrhage during the Third Trimester of Pregnancy: Experience in a University Hospital in Guinea

Aims: Obstetric hemorrhage, especially during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy, causes maternal, fetal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. We attempted to characterize its clinical features in Guinea. The objectives of this study were to describe the socio-demographic characteristics of the patients, identify the causes and contributing factors, describe the management and evaluate the maternal-fetal prognosis in such patients. Methods: We retrieved and analyzed patients with 3rd trimester hemorrhage whom we managed at Ignace Deen National Hospital, Guinea during 1-year period (1st of December 2019-30th of November 2020). Results: We experienced recorded 401 patients with 3rd trimester obstetric hemorrhage out of 5468 deliveries during the corresponding period;the rate being 7.33%. The main causes were as follows: placental hematoma (65.33%), placenta previa (27.68%) and uterine rupture (6.99%). The socio-demographic profiles were as follows: the age group of 25 - 29 years (28.42%), married (94.51%), uneducated (50.12%), and with a liberal profession. (43.64%) and pauciparous (30.42%). The conditions were considered to be preventable by managing risk factors during the prenatal consultation (PNC): 7.73% underwent no PNC. Cesarean accounted for 84.78% of patients. Prognosis was as follows: 14 maternal deaths (3.45% of a fatality), 34.66% of anemia, and 16.95% of hemorrhagic shock. Fetal/neonatal prognoses were poor. Conclusion: Obstetric hemorrhage during 3rd trimester remains the main cause of poor outcomes in Guinea. This study identified that this type of hemorrhage still represents an important cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality in developing countries.

Neonatal Mortality Associated with the Referral of Low Birth Weight Newborns to the Institute of Child Nutrition and Health (INSE)

The objective of this study was to identify risk factors and study the causes of neonatal mortality of LBW newborns referred to the Institute of Nutrition and Child Health. Material and Methods: This is a prospective descriptive and analytical study from March 1 to August 31, 2015, involving 250 newborns referred to the Neonatology Department of the Institute of Child Nutrition and Health (INSE). Results: During our study period, we recorded 1169 newborns, 250 of whom were referred, representing a referral frequency of 21.38%. The overall mortality rate for transferring newborns was 46.8%. Risk factors associated with neonatal mortality were gravidity (p = 0.0019), parity (p = 0.0323), occupational activities requiring physical effort (p = 0.0257), birth weight (p = 0.0008) and prematurity (p = 0.0039). Conclusion: Neonatal mortality associated with referrals is a major health problem in developing countries. There is currently no doubt that it is possible to significantly reduce perinatal mortality and morbidity rates by organizing the identification of “mother-child” couples at risk, to refer them intently to centres better equipped with technical and human resources to care for them.
