During the last two decades,there have been several reports of an increasing incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus(t2 DM) in children and adolescents,especially among those belonging to minority ethnic *** trend,which parallels the increases in prevalence and degree of pediatric obesity,has caused great concern,even though t2 DM remains a relatively rare disease in *** t2 DM differs not only from type 1 diabetes in children,from which it is sometimes difficult to differentiate,but also from t2 DM in adults,since it appears to be an aggressive disease with rapidly progressive β-cell decline,high treatment failure rate,and accelerated development of *** the recent research,many aspects of youth t2 DM still remain unknown,regarding both its pathophysiology and risk factor contribution,and its optimal management and *** management approaches include lifestyle changes,such as improved diet and increased physical activity,together with pharmacological interventions,including metformin,insulin,and the recently approved glucagonlike peptide-1 analog *** is more important for everyone to realize though,from patients,families and physicians to schools,health services and policy-makers alike,is that t2 DM is a largely preventable disease that will be addressed effectively only if its major contributor(i.e.,pediatric obesity) is confronted and prevented at every possible stage of life,from conception until ***,relevant comprehensive,coordinated,and innovative strategies are urgently needed.

AIM:to translate into Greek and validate the chronic liver disease questionnaire (CLDQ).MEtHODS:two hundred and six consecutive adult patients with the diagnosis of a chronic liver disease from 2 general hospitals in Athens were enrolled in the study from May to September *** order to assess their quality of life (QOL) the CLDQ was *** instrument was translated from English,back translated and reviewed in focus groups within the framework of a large multicenter *** measurements that were performed included:2 independent sample t tests,oneway analysis of variance,reliability coefficients,explanatory factor analysis using a varimax rotation and the principal components ***:One hundred and twenty five (61%) patients were men,half were aged 40-59 years and > 33% were > 60 years *** the patients,48 (23%) were hospitalized and 97 (47%) were cirrhotic according to the Child-Pugh *** internal consistency of the Greek CLDQ version using Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found to be *** factor analysis identified 7 domains accounting for 65% of the variance of CLDQ items and only partially overlapping with those found in the original *** area under the receiver operating characteristics curve was calculated at 0.813 and the logistic estimate for the threshold score of 167.50 provided a sensitivity of 74.3% and a specificity of 71.6% for the ***:Our data confirmed the validity of the Greek version of the CLDQ in identifying the QOL among patients with chronic liver disease.

BACKGROUND Liver transplantation has evolved into a safe life-saving operation and remains the golden standard in the treatment of end stage liver *** main limiting factor in the application of liver transplantation is graft *** strategies have been developed in order to alleviate graft shortage,such as living donor partial liver transplantation and split liver transplantation for adult and pediatric *** these strategies,liver volume assessment is of paramount importance,as size mismatch can have severe consequences in the success of liver *** to evaluate the safety,feasibility,and accuracy of light detection and ranging(LIDAR)3D photography in the prediction of whole liver graft volume and *** Seven liver grafts procured for orthotopic liver transplantation from brain deceased donors were prospectively measured with an LIDAR handheld camera and their mass was calculated and compared to their actual *** the mean error of all measurements was 17.03 g(range 3.56-59.33 g).Statistical analysis of the data yielded a Pearson correlation coefficient index of 0.9968,indicating a strong correlation between the values and a Student’s t-test P value of *** accuracy of the measurements was calculated at 97.88%.CONCLUSION Our preliminary data indicate that LIDAR scanning of liver grafts is a safe,cost-effective,and feasible method of ex vivo determination of whole liver volume and *** data are needed to determine the precision and accuracy of this method.

Human exposure to consumer chemicals has become a worldwide *** this work,a comprehensive sampling strategy is presented,to our knowledge being the first to study all relevant exposure pathways in a single cohort using multiple methods for assessment of exposure from each exposure *** selected groups of chemicals to be studied are consumer chemicals whose production and use are currently in a state of transition and are;per-and polyfluorinated alkyl substances(PFASs),traditional and“emerging”brominated flame retardants(BFRs and EBFRs),organophosphate esters(OPEs)and phthalate esters(PEs).Information about human exposure to these contaminants is needed due to existing data gaps on human exposure intakes from multiple exposure pathways and relationships between internal and external *** environment,food and biological samples were collected from 61 participants and their households in the Oslo area(Norway)on two consecutive days,during winter ***,dust,hand wipes,and duplicate diet(food and drink)samples were collected as indicators of external exposure,and blood,urine,blood spots,hair,nails and saliva as indicators of internal exposure.A food diary,food frequency questionnaire(FFQ)and indoor environment questionnaire were also *** 2000 samples were collected in total and participant views on their experiences of this campaign were collected via *** 91%of our participants were positive about future participation in a similar project,some tasks were viewed as *** the food diary and collection of duplicate food/drink portions were the tasksmost frequent reported as“hard”/“very hard”.Nevertheless,a strong positive correlation between the reported total mass of food/drinks in the food record and the total weight of the food/drinks in the collection bottles was observed,being an indication of accurate performance of the participants despite the challenges of the sampling campaign.

Gene therapy targeted to vascular cells repre- sents a promising approach for prevention and treatment of pathological conditions such as intimal hyperplasia, in-stent and post-angioplasty restenosis. In this context, polymeric non-viral gene delivery systems are a safe alternative to viral vectors but a further improvement in efficiency and cytocom- patibility is needed to improve their clinical success. Herein, a library of 24 branched polyethylenimine （bPEI） derivatives modified with hydrophobic moieties was synthesised, char- acterised and tested in vitro on primary vascular cells, aim- ing to identify delivery agents with superior transfection effi- ciency and low cytotoxicity. Low molecular weight PEIs （0.6, 1.2 and 2 kDa） were grafted with long （C18） and short （C3） aliphatic chains, featuring different unsaturation degrees and degrees of substitution. 0.6 kDa bPEI-based derivatives were generally ineffective in transfection on vascular smooth mus- cle cells （VSMCs）, while among the other derivatives some promising vectors were identified. Forcing polyplexes on the cell surface by means of centrifugation invariably boosted transfection levels but increased cytotoxicity as well. Of note, a propionyl-snbstituted derivative （PEI2-PrA1, C3：0） was the most effective on both VSMCs and endothelial cells （ECs）, with higher and more sustained gene expression in combi- nation with markedly lower cytotoxicity with respect to the gold standard 25 kDa bPEI. In addition, a linoleoyl-substi- tuted derivative （PEI1.2-LA6, C18：2） owing to its high effi- ciency in VSMCs and relative inefficacy in ECs, combined with tolerable cytotoxicity was proposed as a vector for spe- cific VSMCs targeting.

Liver injury secondary to vaccination is a rare adverse event that has recently come under attention thanks to the continuous pharmacovigilance following the widespread implementation of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)vaccination *** three most widely distributed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 vaccine formulations,e.g.,BNt162b2,mRNA-1273,and ChAdOx1-S,can induce liver injury that may involve immune-mediated pathways and result in autoimmune hepatitis-like presentation that may require therapeutic intervention in the form of corticosteroid *** mechanisms have been proposed in an attempt to highlight immune checkpoint inhibition and thus establish causality with *** autoimmune features of such a reaction also prompt an in-depth investigation of the newly employed vaccine *** vaccine delivery platforms,e.g.,mRNA-containing lipid nanoparticles and adenoviral vectors,contribute to the inflammatory background that leads to an exaggerated immune response,while patterns of molecular mimicry between the spike(S)protein and prominent liver antigens may account for the autoimmune *** mediators triggered by vaccination or vaccine ingredients per se,including autoreactive antibodies,cytokines,and cytotoxic t-cell populations,may inflict hepatocellular damage through wellestablished *** aim to review available data associated with immunemediated liver injury associated with COVID-19 vaccination and elucidate potential mechanisms underlying its pathogenesis.

the Effect of N-Fertilization on Rosmarinus Officinalis L. （An Upright Variety） Yield in Central Greece

the effect of three different N-fertilization levels （NI： 625, N2：385 and N3：770 kg hal; where in case of N1 was used the 3-6-10＋3MGO＋30% OM and in cases of N2-N3 the 26-0-0 fertilizers） on fresh and dry weight of the perennial Rosmarinus officinalis （upright cultivar） was investigated during the 2nd year after establishment at the Experimental Farm of the technological Educational Institute of thessaly in Greece （tEI; Larissa plain） in 2015. It is well documented that the crop reaches its potential yield on the third year of cultivation and continues producing biomass for as long as eight years. Complete weather data （air temperature, radiation, air humidity, precipitation） were recorded hourly in an automatic meteorological station, which was installed to the experimental farm of tEI. Upon harvest （November 3rd 2015）, the crop reached a maximum fresh yield of 11.67 tons per hectare and dry yield of 4.3, respectively. the average fresh weight was 8.2, 8.4 and 8.9 t hal and the dry weight were 2.6, 3.1 and 3.2 t ha-1 for the N1, N2 and N3 levels, respectively. Furthermore the higher moisture content was observed in the case of N1 level （68%）. therefore, the above data show that rosemary cultivation could be a promising alternative crop, especially in case of the consideration that average selling price of dry rosemary in Greece is 3.5 ∈ kg^-1 and the average gross income exceeds the amount of 10,000 ∈ ha^-1.
