A systematic review of cytoreductive prostatectomy outcomes and complications in oligometastatic disease

objective: To analyze outcomes and complications of cytoreductive prostatectomy (CRP) for oligometastatic prostate cancer (PCa) in order to elucidate its role in this ***: We performed a systematic literature search using three databases (Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science). The primary endpoints were oncologic outcomes. The secondary endpoints were complication rates and functional ***: In all studies, overall survival was better or at least comparable variable in the groups with CRP compared to no local treatment. The greatest benefit from CRP in 5-year overall survival in one study was 67.4% for CRP versus 22.5% for no local treatment. Cancer-specific survival (CSS) showed the same trend. Several authors found significant benefits from CSS in the CRP group: from 79% vs. 46% to 100% vs. 61%. CRP was a predictor of better CSS (hazard ratio 0.264, p=0.004). Positive surgical margin rates differed widely from 28.6% to 100.0%. Urinary continence in CRP versus RP for localized PCa was significantly lower (57.4% vs. 90.8%, pontinence occurred seldom (2.5%-18.6%). Total complication rates after CRP differed widely, from 7.0% to 43.6%. Rates of grades 1 and 2 events prevailed. Patients on ADT alone also showed a considerable number of complications varying from 5.9% to 57.7%.Conclusion: CRP improves medium-term cancer control in patients with oligometastatic PCa. The morbidity and complication rates of this surgery are comparable with other approaches, but postoperative incontinence rate is higher compared with RP for localized disease.

Fast Single Image Haze Removal Method for Inhomogeneous Environment Using Variable Scattering Coefficient

The images capture in a bad environment usually loses its fidelity and *** the light rays travel towards its destination they get scattered several times due to the tiny particles of fog and pollutants in the environment,therefore the energy gets lost due to multiple scattering till it arrives its destination,and this degrades the *** the images taken in bad weather appear in bad ***,single image haze removal is quite a bit tough *** research has been done in the haze removal algorithm but in all the techniques,the coefficient of scattering is taken as a constant according to the homogeneous atmosphere but in real time this does not ***,this paper introduces a simple and efficient method so that the scattering coefficient becomes variable according to the inhomogeneous ***,this research aims to remove the haze with the help of a fast and effective algorithm i.e.,Prior Color Fading,according to the inhomogeneous environmental ***,to filter the depth map,the authors used a weighted guided image filtering which removes the drawbacks of guided image *** the scattering coefficient is made variable according to the inhomogeneous atmosphere and then the Simple Color Balance Algorithm is applied so that the readability property of images can be *** proposed method tested on various general outdoor images and synthetic hazy images and analyzed on various parameters Mean Square Error(MSE),Root Mean Square Error(RMSE),Peak Signal to Noise Ratio(PSNR),Mean Structural Similarity(MSSIM)and the Universal objective Quality Index(UQI).Experimental results for the proposed method show that the proposed approach provides better results as compared to the state-of-the-art haze removal algorithms.

Nucleotide sugar transporters （NSTs） are antiporters comprising a gene family that plays a fundamental role in the biosynthesis of complex cell wall polysaccharides and glycoproteins in plants. However, due to the limited number of related mutants that have observable phenotypes, the biological function（s） of most NSTs in cell wall biosynthesis and assembly have remained elusive. Here, we report the characterization of AtUTr7 from Arabidopsis （Arabidopsis thaliana （L.） Heynh.）, which is homologous to multi-specific UDP-sugar transporters from Drosophila melanogaster, humans, and Caenorhabditis elegans. We show that AtUTr7 possesses the common structural characteristics conserved among NSTs. Using a green fluorescent protein （GFP） tagged version, we demonstrate that AtUTr7 is localized in the Golgi apparatus. We also show that AtUTr7 is widely expressed, especially in the roots and in specific floral organs. Additionally, the results of an in vitro nucleotide sugar transport assay carried out with a tobacco and a yeast expression system suggest that AtUTr7 is capable of transferring UDP-Gal and UDP-GIc, but not a range of other UDP- and GDP-sugars, into the Golgi lumen. Mutants lacking expression of AtUTr7 exhibited an early proliferation of lateral roots as well as distorted root hairs when cultivated at high sucrose concentrations. Furthermore, the distribution of homogalacturonan with a low degree of methyl esterification differed in lateral root tips of the mutant compared to wild-type plants, although additional analytical procedures revealed no further differences in the composition of the root cell walls. This evidence suggests that the transport of UDP-Gal and UDP-GIc into the Golgi under conditions of high root biomass production plays a role in lateral root and root hair development.

occurrence and ecological risk assessment of pharmaceutical products in the Kadicha river in Lebanon

Contamination of aquatic systems with pharmaceutical products represents a rising *** Kadicha river in Northern Lebanon is an illustrative example of a small Mediterranean river affected by rapid urbanization and population *** paper reports the first study on occurrence and ecological risk assessments on selected pharmaceuticals and their metabolites within the Kadicha *** this purpose,surface water samples were collected over two sampling campaigns from twelve sites impacted by urban,rural,and mixed land uses(residential and agricultural zones)within the Kadicha river *** the studied pharmaceuticals,six compounds(carbamazepine,diclofenac,acetaminophen,sulfamethoxazole,ofloxacin,and atenolol)were detected with detection frequencies and concentrations that vary according to the sampling *** was the most frequently detected compound and showed the highest concentrations(not detected-290 ng/L).The presence of pharmaceuticals carbamazepine,ofloxacin(not detected-190 ng/L),and atenolol(not detected-93 ng/L)was related to raw wastewater inputs in the water body,while the presence of sulfamethoxazole(not detected-23 ng/L)was associated with its usage in specific sites with livestock ***,the presence of acetaminophen(not detected-242 ng/L)and diclofenac(not detected-1055 ng/L)can be affected by their degradation properties in river *** highest concentrations were observed in the urbanized downstream area,while the lowest concentrations were within the rural upstream ***,the urbanized downstream area presents the highest potential risks for aquatic ***,ofloxacin may pose high ecotoxicological risks in this *** levels of contamination with pharmaceuticals do not exceed the concentrations reported in the ***,the levels of carbamazepine,diclofenac,and acetaminophen were more similar to sites receiving raw wastewaters,while the concentration levels of sulfamethoxazo

Effect of phacoemulsification on intraocular pressure in patients with primary open angle glaucoma and pseudoexfoliation glaucoma

AIM：To compare the effect of phacoemulsification on intraocular pressure（IoP）in patients with primary open angle glaucoma（PoAG）and pseudoexfoliation glaucoma（PXG）.METHoDS：A retrospective comparative case series conducted at the Glaucoma Department at the Association to Prevent Blindness in *** study enrolled consecutive patients having phacoemulsification with intraocular lens（IoL）implantation and a diagnosis of PoAG or *** about IoP values and number of glaucoma medications used was collected at baseline,1,3,6 and12mo ***：The study enrolled 88 patients（88 eyes）.After phacoemulsification,there was a statistically significant reduction in IoP values and glaucoma medications use compared to baseline in both PoAG and PXG patients（P〈0.001）.In the PoAG group,a 20%decrease in IoP values was evidenced,and a 56.5%reduction in the number of medications used at the one-year *** PXG group showed a 20.39%,and a 34.46%decrease in IoP and number of medications used,respectively.A significant difference in the meanΔIoP（postoperative changes in IoP）was evidenced between groups（P=0.005）.The reduction of the postsurgical IoP mean values in both groups,the PoAG group showed a greater reduction in IoP values compared to the PXG ***：In both types of glaucoma,phacoemulsification cataract surgery can result in a significant IoP reduction（20%）over a 12mo follow-up *** number of medications used is also significantly reduced up to 12mo after surgery,especially in the PXG group.

Soil Microbial Community-Level Physiological Profiling as Related to Carbon and Nitrogen Availability Under Different Land Uses

The goal of this work was to assess soil microbial respiration, determined by the assay of community-level physiological profiling in an oxygen-sensitive microplate （o2-CLPP）, in response to endogenous C and several individual C substrates in the soils with different organic C contents （as a function of soil type and management practice）. We also used the o2-CLPP to determine the respiratory response of these soils to endogenous C and amended C substrates with N addition. A respiratory quotient （RQ） was calculated based on the ratio of the response to endogenous soil C vs. each C-only substrate, and was related to total organic carbon （ToC）. For assessing N availability for microbial activity, the effect of N supplementation on soil respiration, expressed as Nr^tio, was calculated based on the response of several substrates to N addition relative to the response without N. Soils clustered in 4 groups after a principal component analysis （PCA）, based on ToC and their respiratory responses to substrates and endogenous C. These groups reflected differences among soils in their geographic origin, land use and C content. Calculated RQ values were significantly lower in natural forest soils than in managed soils for most C-only substrates. ToC was negatively correlated with RQ （r = -0.65）, indicating that the soils with higher organic matter content increased respiratory efficiency. The N addition in the assay in the absence of C amendment （i. e., only endogenous soil C present） had no effect on microbial respiration in any soil, indicating that these soils were not intrinsically N-limited, but substrate-dependent variation in Nr^tio within soil groups was observed.
