The Oldest Grey Gneisses and Tonalite-Trondhjemite Granodiorites in the Fennoscandian Shield: ID-TIMS and SHRIMP Data

Genesis of the oldest continental crust retains a marked trace in the Earth’s evolution over its 4.5 Ga history. Despite ample isotope data on the role of the continental crust in the Earth’s evolution, there has been much debate on the origin of grey gneisses and tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorites (TTG). Precise U-Pb (ID-TIMS) and SHRIMP data on single zircon for paragneisses and TTG (3158.2 ± 8.2 Ma) have indicated the Central-Kola and Belomorian (White Sea) megablocks of the Fennoscandian Shield to be 3.16 Ga and 3.70 Ga, respectively. The newly obtained ages of zircon from these megablocks indicate the origin of the discrete continental crust to be 3.16 and 3.70 Ga. It is close to the Nordsim zircon data on the Siurua TTG (Finland), which are 3.45 and 3.73 Ga in the core. The new summarized data on the Earth’s oldest rocks (basement and continental crust) indicate the younger age of the rocks in the Fennoscandian Shield as compared to those in Australia (Kronendonk et al., 2019).

Mass Spectrometry Study of Non-Covalent Complexes of Bioflavonoids with Cyclotriveratrylene Synthesized in Subcritical Water

Mass spectrometry was used for studying of non-covalent complexes of bioflavonoids with cyclotriveratrylene (CVT). The complexes of cyclotriveratrylene (CVT) with the bioflavonoids (quercetin or dihydroquercetin) have been synthesized in subcritical water. The complexe formation was carried out at different temperatures of subcritical water (from 120℃ to 230℃). The structure of the inclusion compounds was confirmed by the data of ESI MS spectroscopy. The mass spectrometry results showed the presence of mixed adducts of CTV monomer, dimer, trimer and tetramer with quercetin and dihydroquercetin. Composition of the CTV complexes with the bioflavonoids, which were obtained in subcritical water medium and by traditional method, was compared.

A comparison of food habits and prey preference of Amur tiger(Panthera tigris altaica)at three sites in the Russian Far East

Prey availability is one of the principal drivers of tiger distribution and ***,formulating effective conservation strategies requires a clear understanding of tiger *** used scat analysis in combination with data on the abundance of several prey species to estimate Amur tiger diet and preference at 3 sites in the Russian Far *** also examined the effect of pseudoreplication on estimates of tiger *** collected 770 scats across the 3 *** to previous studies,we found that tigers primarily preyed on medium to large ungulates,with wild boar,roe,sika and red deer collectively comprising 86.7%of total biomass consumed on *** to Jacobs’index,tigers preferred wild boar,and avoided sika *** in preference indices derived from these scat analyses compared to indices derived from kill data appear to be due to adjustments in biomass intake when sex–age of a killed individual is known:a component missing from scat ***(multiple samples collected from a single kill site)also skewed results derived from scat *** analysis still appears useful in providing insight into the diets of carnivores when the full spectrum of prey species needs to be identified,or when sample sizes from kill data are not *** sample sizes of kill data are large(as is now possible with GPS-collared animals),kill data adjusted by sex–age categories probably provides the most accurate estimates of prey biomass *** results provide further confirmation of the centrality of medium ungulates,in particular wild boar,to Amur tiger diet,and suggest that the protection of this group of species is critical to Amur tiger conservation.
