Background:There exist few maximal oxygen uptake(VO_(2max))non-exercise-based prediction equations,fewer using machine learning(ML),and none specifically for older *** direct measurement of VO_(2max)is infeasible in large epidemiologic cohort studies,we sought to develop,validate,compare,and assess the transportability of several ML VO_(2max)prediction ***:The Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging(BLSA)participants with valid VO2_(max)tests were included(n=1080).Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator,linear-and tree-boosted extreme gradient boosting,random forest,and support vector machine(SVM)algorithms were trained to predict VO_(2max)*** developed these algorithms for:(a)the overall BLSA,(b)by sex,(c)using all BLSA variables,and(d)variables common in aging ***,we quantified the associations between measured and predicted VO_(2max)and ***:The age was 69.0±10.4 years(mean±SD)and the measured VO_(2max)was 21.6±5.9 mL/kg/*** absolute shrinkage and selection operator,linear-and tree-boosted extreme gradient boosting,random forest,and support vector machine yielded root mean squared errors of 3.4 mL/kg/min,3.6 mL/kg/min,3.4 mL/kg/min,3.6 mL/kg/min,and 3.5 mL/kg/min,*** quartiles of measured VO_(2max)showed an inverse gradient in mortality *** VO_(2max)variables yielded similar effect estimates but were not robust to ***:Measured VO_(2max)is a strong predictor of *** ML can improve the accuracy of prediction as compared to simpler approaches but estimates of association with mortality remain sensitive to *** studies should seek to reproduce these results so that VO_(2max),an important vital sign,can be more broadly studied as a modifiable target for promoting functional resiliency and healthy aging.

Second harmonic generation （SHG） results from molecules which are polarized by an external electric field often provided by an intense laser beam. The polarizability depends on firstly the intrinsic structural properties of the substance and hence the second-order nonlinear susceptibility, and secondly the intensity and polarization direction of the incident light. The polarization characteristics of the beam are therefore of interest. In this letter, we discuss some considerations in SHG microscopy of collagen when the incoming beam is circularly polarized, and present some supporting results as well as a numerical analysis. We propose a quasi-crystal model of collagen microstructure in an effort to further our understanding on this protein.

Whole-body heat exposure induces membrane changes in spermatozoa from the cauda epididymidis of laboratory mice

This study was carried out to determine if exposure to hot environmental temperatures had a direct, detrimental effect on sperm quality. For this the effect of whole-body heat exposure on epididymal spermatozoa of laboratory mice was investigated. C57BL/6 mice （n = 7） were housed in a microclimate chamber at 37℃-38℃ for 8 h per day for three consecutive days, while control mice （n = 7） were kept at 23℃-24℃. Cauda epididymal spermatozoa were obtained 16 h after the last heat treatment. The results showed that sperm numbers were similar in the two groups （P = 0.23）, but after heat treatment, a significant reduction in the percentage of motile sperm was present （P 〈 0.0001）. Membrane changes of the spermatozoa were investigated by staining with phycoerythrin （PE）- conjugated Annexin V, which detects exteriorization of phosphotidylserine from the inner to the outer leaflet of the sperm plasma membrane, and 7-aminoactinomycin D （7-AAD）, which binds to the sperm nucleus when the plasma membrane is damaged. The percentage of spermatozoa showing positive staining with Annexin V-PE or 7-AAD or both, was significantly higher （P 〈 0.05） in heat-exposed mice compared with controls. These results show that whole-body heat exposure to 37℃-38℃ induces membrane changes in the epididymal spermatozoa of mice, which may lead to apoptosis.

With the liberalization of the financial service sector mandated by China＇s access to the WTO, China＇s credit card market has received a great deal of attention from global financial institutions. This paper examines the enormous growth opportunities and key barriers facing the development of the credit card industry in China, and discusses the importance and tools of consumer credit risk management. In the process of rapid expansion of China＇s consumer credit card industry, credit risk management should be treated as a top priority to avoid a pile up of bad debt in credit card receivables. This requires the development of an updated and comprehensive national consumer credit database and the use of credit risk modeling and scoring in predicting consumer behavior. As structured finance develops in China, the securitization of credit card receivables into asset-backed securities might also serve as an alternative to traditional credit risk management.

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effects of a 3-month vigorous physical activity(VPA) intervention on eating behavior and body composition in overweight and obese children and ***: Forty-seven participants(7–16 years) took part in the study: 28 were assigned to the intervention group(IG)(10 boys and 18 girls) and19 in a control group(CG)(8 boys and 11 girls). Body composition(dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry), anthropometrics(body mass, height, and body mass index(BMI)), and eating behavior traits(Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire-R21 C) were determined before and after the VPA ***: A decrease in the percentage of body fat and BMI(-2.8% and-1.8%, respectively), and an increase in most lean mass variables were found in the IG(all p ≤ 0.05). In relation to the eating behavior traits, IG subjects showed a 14% reduction in the Emotional Eating score(p = 0.04),while Cognitive Restraint score did not change after the VPA intervention. The baseline factors of the questionnaire predicted changes in body mass and fat mass variables only in the ***: A 3-month VPA intervention influenced eating behaviors of overweight or obese young, especially the Emotional Eating factor, in the presence of favorable body composition changes.

Diet-induced obesity has previously been shown to occur with the concomitant rise in the expression of proin-flammatory cytokines and increases in collagen *** it has been known that the regenerative process of skeletal muscle is altered in obese mice following an acute muscle injury,we sought to examine differences in the expression of various markers of extracellular matrix remodeling and *** laboratory has previously reported an impaired inflammatory and protein synthetic signaling in these mice that may contribute negatively to the muscle regenerative *** expand upon this previous investigation,tissues from these animals un-derwent further analysis to determine the extent of changes to the regenerative response within the extracellular matrix,including transcriptional changes in CollagenⅠ,CollagenⅢ,and ***,we show that the expression of CollagenⅢ:Ⅰis significantly increased at 3-days post-injury in obese injured animals compared to lean injured animals(p=0.0338),and by 28-days the obese injured animals exhibit a significantly lower CollagenⅢ:Ⅰthan their lean injured counterparts(p=0.0035).We demonstrate an impaired response to an acute muscle injury in obese mice when compared with lean ***,further studies are required to elucidate translational consequences of these changes,as well as to determine any causative mechanisms that may be driving this effect.

Refractory high-entropy alloys(HEAs)possess many useful properties such as high strength and high-temperature *** far,most studies on refractory HEAs have been limited to a few well-known compositions and on their coarse-grain bulk *** we fabricate nanocrystalline(TiZrHf)_(x)(NbTa)_(1−x)HEA thin films with a large range of compositions(x=0.07–0.90)by the direct current(DC)magnetron co-sputtering technique and measure their mechanical properties using the nanoindentation *** the as-deposited HEA thin films show a solid-solution body-centered cubic(bcc)*** the compositional ratio(x)increases,the elastic modulus decreases from 153 to 123 GPa,following the trend of the rule of *** x increases,the hardness first decreases from 6.5 GPa(x=0.07)to the lowest value(4.6 GPa,x=0.48)and then increases to the highest value(7.1 GPa,x=0.90),showing a concave *** change in hardness might be attributed to the combinational influence caused by the atomic size and modulus effects,as well as the texture *** authors also propose a few open questions for future studies on this and related HEA systems.
