In Vitro Activity of Lawsonia inermis （Henna） on Some Pathogenic Fungi

The present study was conducted to investigate antifungal activity ofLawsonia inermis （Henna plant）. Leaf samples of the plants were collected from Eastern Nile of Khartoum state, Sudan. Ethanol and petroleum ether extracts in various concentrations were obtained by maceration （cold method）. The extracts were bioassay in vitro to know their bioactivity to inhibit the growth of tested fungi. The cup plate agar diffusion method was adopted to assess the antifungal activity of the extracts against tested yeasts while agar incorporated method was used for other molds. Both extracts revealed anti fungal activity against all yeast strains except Pichiafabianii which was found resistant to both ethanol and ether extracts. The results displayed antifungal activity against tested fungi. Minimum mould concentration （MMC） of the extracts was determined. The obtained results revealed antifungal activity of henna leaves extracts which support the traditional use of the Henna in therapy of fungal infections. The possibility of therapeutic use of Sudanese henna as antifungal agents is recommended.

Mathematical Model and Advanced Control for Gas-phase Olefin Polymerization in Fluidized-bed Catalytic Reactors

In this study, the developments in modeling gas-phase catalyzed olefin polymerization fluidized-bed reactors （FBR） using Ziegler-Natta catalyst is presented. The modified mathematical model to account for mass and heat transfer between the solid particles and the surrounding gas in the emulsion phase is developed in this work to include site activation reaction. This model developed in the present study is subsequently compared with well-known models, namely, the bubble-growth, well-mixed and the constant bubble size models for porous and non porous catalyst. The results we obtained from the model was very close to the constant bubble size model, well-mixed model and bubble growth model at the beginning of the reaction but its overall behavior changed and is closer to the well-mixed model compared with the bubble growth model and constant bubble size model after half an hour of operation. Neural-network based predictive controller are implemented to control the system and compared with the conventional PID controller, giving acceptable results.

Sero-prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection among pregnant women attending antenatal clinics in Khartoum and Omdurman Maternity Hospitals,Sudan

Objective:To determine the sero-prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii(***)infection among pregnant Sudanese ***:One hundred and sixty three pregnant women attending antenatal care in Omdurman Maternity Hospitals,Khartoum,Sudan during June to August in 2013 were enrolled and screened for immunoglobulin G(IgG)and IgM antitoxoplasma antibodies using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay ***:Among 163 pregnant women,33(20.2%)were positive for(IgG)antitoxoplasma antibodies,while 130(79.8%)were *** of the examined women had IgM antitoxoplasma *** highest rate of infection(26.7%)was detected among women aged 21-29 *** statistically significant relation was observed between *** sero-prevalence and the other variable of risk factors ***:Over 79%Sudanese women screened for antitoxoplasma IgG antibodies were seronegative and they were at risk of seroconversion during ***,the study showed that screening of *** infections during antenatal care should be considered in Khartoum state as the main strategy to minimize congenital toxoplasmosis.
