Faujasite zeolite decorated with cobalt ferrite nanoparticles for improving removal and reuse in Pb^2+ions adsorption

Water pollution caused by heavy metals ions has been gaining attention in recent years,increasing the interest in the development of methodologies for their efficient removal focusing on the adsorption process for these *** current challenge faced by adsorption processes is the adequate adsorbent immobilization for removal and ***,the present work aimed at producing a faujasite zeolite nanocomposite decorated with cobalt ferrite nanoparticles for Pb^2+ions adsorption in an aqueous medium improving magnetic removal and *** a result,a high surface area(434.4 m^2·g^-1)for the nanocomposite and an 18.93 emu·g^-1 saturation magnetization value were obtained,indicating magnetic removal in a promising material for adsorption *** nanocomposite regeneration capacity evaluated by magnetic recovery after 24 h suspension presented a high Pb^2+ion adsorptive capacity(98.4%)in the first *** 98%of the Pb^2+ions were adsorbed in the second *** this way,the synthesized faujasite:cobalt ferrite nanocomposite reveals itself as a promising alternative in adsorption processes,aiming at a synergic effect of FAU zeolite high adsorptive activity and the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles magnetic activity,allowing for adsorbent recovery from the aqueous medium via magnetic force and successive adsorptive cycles.

Development of a new humane toxin for predator control in New Zealand

The endemic fauna of New Zealand evolved in the absence of mammalian predators and their introduction has been responsible for many extinctions and *** species including possums(Trichosurus vulpecula Kerr),ship rats(Rattus rattus L.)and stoats(Mustela erminea L.)are targeted to protect native *** methodologies currently rely largely on labor-intensive trapping or the use of increasingly unpopular poisons,or poisons that are linked with low welfare ***,the development of safer humane predator toxins and delivery systems is highly ***-aminopropiophenone(PAPP)is being developed as a toxin for feral cats(Felis catus L.)and *** appear to be much more susceptible to PAPP than birds,so it potentially has high target specificity,at least in New *** trials with 20 feral cats and 15 stoats have been undertaken using meat baits containing a proprietary formulation of PAPP.A PAPP dose of 20-34 mg kg^(-1)was lethal for feral cats and 37-95 mg kg^(-1)was lethal for *** assessments suggest that PAPP,for the control of feral cats and stoats,is a humane and effective *** causes methaemoglobinaemia,resulting in central nervous system anoxia,lethargy and death.

Regulation of Hedgehog signaling by ubiquitination

The Hedgehog （Hh） signaling pathway plays crucial roles both in embryonic development and in adult stem cell function. The timing, duration and location of Hh signaling activity need to be tightly controlled. Abnormalities of Hh signal transduction lead to birth defects or malignant tumors. Recent data point to ubiquitination-related posttranslational modifications of several key Hh pathway components as an important mechanism of regulation of the Hh pathway. Here we review how ubiquitination regulates the localization, stability and activity of the key Hh signaling components.

Severe dengue associated with aseptic meningitis, acute kidney injury, and sudden sensorineural hearing loss: A case report

Background:To analyze prevalence and factors associated with stages of behavior change for physical activity in *** sources:A search was performed in SciELO,PubMed,PsycINFO,SPORTDiscus and *** search terms were 'behavior change' OR 'stages of change' OR 'stages of readiness' OR 'readiness to change' OR 'transtheoretical model' OR 'process to change' OR 'decisional balance',and 'motor activity' OR 'physical activity' OR 'physical exercise' and 'adolescent' OR 'students'.After the eligibility criteria,18 articles were ***:The highest prevalence of adolescents in the precontemplation,contemplation,and preparation stages was found in the Germany,South Korea,and Iran while there were more adolescents in the action and maintenance in South Korea and *** evidence of association indicated that females are more likely to be in precontemplation,contemplation and *** evidence was inconclusive for age (in relation to the precontemplation,contemplation,action and maintenance stages),economic status (all stages),shift of study (when stratified by gender) and body composition (all stages).No association was found with parental level of ***:The findings can help to guide interventions and further research on the topic of behavior changes for physical activity in adolescents.

Refractory Ventricular Fibrillation with Underlying coronary Artery Disease after cOVID-19 Vaccine-Kounis Syndrome or coincidence

A 63-year-old man with diabetes and asymptomatic coronary artery disease developed refractory ventricular arrhythmia at 20 hours at rest after his second cOVID-19 vaccine. Despite significant stenosis in the coronary arteries, there was no evidence of acute or old myocardial infarction, heart failure, myocarditis or structural abnormalities on post-mortem to account for the substrate for the fatal arrhythmia. The refractory and incessant nature of the ventricular fibrillation and post-mortem finding of a grossly elevated unexplained IgE level (in the absence of acute myocardial infarction) suggested the possibility of Kounis Syndrome or allergic acute coronary syndrome.

Adaptation and Validation of a Proteolytic Activity Methodology Using Dye-crosslinked Substrate Tablets

Enzymatic activities are important to be quantified in products as enzymatic cleaners, which are used in medical and surgical devices reprocessing. Enzymatic activities are critical for the proper chemical cleaning that intends to remove solid organic dirt from inaccessible sites. The most important enzyme for this purpose is the protease, which is able to dissolve the main dirt attached to medical and surgical instruments. In this context, this study contributes to the development of a new proteolytic activity quantification method and its validation. The methodology is based on colorimetry and uses a UV-Vis spectrophotometer to measure the substrate hydrolysis by the blue color intensity, employing Protazyme AK tablets as substrate.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is characterised by defects in both fasting and postprandial glucose (PPG) control. Many Asians including chinese people with T2D have isolated high PPG at diagnosis without concomitant elevation in fasting plasma glucose (FPG). This might be due to differences in genetic architecture, low insulin secretion, and high carbohydrate diet in East Asians. Excursions in PPG contribute significantly to glycemic variability (GV).

An evaluation of garlic lectin as an alternative carrier domain for insecticidal fusion proteins

The mannose-binding lectin GNA （snowdrop lectin） is used as a＂carrier＂ domain in insecticidal fusion proteins which cross the insect gut after oral ingestion. A similar lectin from garlic bulb, ASAII, has been evaluated as an alternative ＂carrier＂. Recombinant ASAII delivered orally to larvae of cabbage moth （Mamestra brassica; Lepidoptera） was subsequently detected in haemolymph, demonstrating transport. Fusion proteins comprising an insect neurotoxin, ButaIT （Buthus tamulus insecticidal toxin; red scorpion toxin） linked to the c-terminal region of ASAII or GNA were produced as recombinant proteins （GNA/ ButaIT and ASA/ButaIT） by expression in Pichia pastoris. In both cases the c-terminal sequence of the lectin was truncated to avoid post-translational proteolysis. The GNA- containing fusion protein was toxic by injection to cabbage moth larvae （LD50≈ 250μg/g）, and when fed had a negative effect on survival and growth. It also decreased the survival of cereal aphids （Sitobion avenae; Homoptera） from neonate to adult by 〉70% when fed. In contrast, the ASA-ButaIT fusion protein was non-toxic to aphids, and had no effect on lepidopteran larvae, either when injected or when fed. However, intact ASA-ButaIT fusion protein was present in the haemolymph of cabbage moth larvae following ingestion, showing that transport of the fusion had occurred. The stabilities of GNA/ButaIT and ASA/ButaIT to proteolysis in vivo after injection or ingestion differed, and this may be a factor in determining insecticidal activities.
