Serum immunoglobulin A concentration is a reliable biomarker for liver fibrosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

AIM:To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of serum Immunoglobulin A(IgA)for differentiating early stage nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)from nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH).METHODS:All cases had fatty liver change confirmed by ultrasound and aminotransferases of at least twice the normal *** and biochemical data,including serum IgA,were obtained from 50 histologically proven NAFLD cases and 54 healthy *** whole blood samples were obtained from the study *** methods were used to measure the IgA *** NAFLD cases were hospitalized for liver *** specimens were examined for steatosis,steatohepatitis and fibrosis within *** were categorized into two groups:NASH and *** were compared within cases(NASH vs non-NASH)and ***-off values of serum IgA were evaluated using analysis of receiver operating characteristic(ROC curves).Associations between the variables were tested using calculations of correlation *** significances were assigned to P values<***:The extent of liver fibrosis correlated positively with IgA *** with no fibrosis in their liver biopsies had a lower IgA level(301.5±91.2 mg/dL)than subjects with any degree of fibrosis(388.8±140.8 mg/dL),(P=0.01).IgA levels were higher in NASH cases,and its value was significantly higher for higher degrees of *** with perisinusoidal or pericellular fibrosis had significantly higher levels of IgA(403.5±133.9 mg/dL,418.2±129.5 mg/dL)compared to those without it(301.8±94.9 mg/dL,297.7±91.5 mg/dL),*** significant correlation was found between steatosis grade and serum IgA *** on ROC analysis,the best predictive IgA cutoff value for detecting liver fibrosis was 360mg/dL(61%sensitivity,81%specificity).CONCLUSION:The serum IgA level is useful to evaluate the severity of liver fibrosis and can be used serially for evaluation and follow-up of NAFLD

The matrix Wiener algebra,W_(N):=M_(N)(W)of order N>0,is the matrix algebra formed by N×N matrices whose entries belong to the classical Wiener algebraWof functions with absolutely convergent Fourier series.A block-Toeplitz matrix T(a)=[A_(i,j)]i,j≥0is a block semi-infinite matrix such that its blocks A_(i,j) are finite matrices of order N,A_(i,j)=A^(r,s) whenever i-j=r-s and its entries are the coefficients of the Fourier expansion of the generator a:T→M_(N)(C).Such a matrix can be regarded as a bounded linear operator acting on the direct sum of N copies of L^(2)(T).We show that exp(T(a))differes from T(exp(a))only in a compact operator with a known bound on its *** fact,we prove a slightly more general result:for every entire function f and for every compact operator E,there exists a compact operator F such that f(T(a)+E)=T(f(a))+*** call these T(a)+E′s matrices,the quasi block-Toeplitz matrices,and we show that via a computation-friendly norm,they form a Banach *** results generalize and are motivated by some recent results of Dario Andrea Bini,Stefano Massei and Beatrice Meini.

An automatic procedure for generating burn severity maps from the satellite images-derived spectral indices

Fire,especially wildfire,which can be considered as one of the main threats to vegetation cover and animals’life,has attracted lots of attention from environmental *** better manage the fire crisis and take the necessary measures to compensate for its damages,it is essential to have detailed information about the burn severity ***,satellite images and their spectral indices have been widely considered in the literature as powerful tools in producing burn severity *** the efficiency of the previously proposed methods,the necessity of ground reference data for their thresholding step faces them with serious *** address this problem,in this study,an automatic procedure based on the change-point analysis is presented for thresholding differenced normalized burn ratio(dNBR)and its another version,*** this procedure,a mean-shift based change-point analysis is performed on the dNBR and dNBR2 images for classifying them into burn severity ***,conducted on some parts of Alaska and California in the United States,illustrated the high efficiency of the proposed ***,as an applied experiment,the severity of the fires,occurred in 2020 in the Khaeiz protected area in Iran,was estimated and compared with local reports.

Thermodynamic Study of the Extraction of Inorganic Mercury Compounds in Fish Species of the International Anzali Wetland, Iran

Inorganic mercury concentration was measured in the tional Anzali Wetland ecosystem in Guilan. In the same muscle tissues of four types of fish in the aquatic intemaecosystem, the northern pike is able to concentrate inorganic mercury in its body more than other fish. In each species, a fish with the highest amount of inorganic mercury was selected for determination of thermodynamic parameters of inorganic mercury extraction using calculation of the equilibrium constant and fitting of In Kc versus inverse temperature at the atmospheric pressure. The origins of thermodynamic parameters were discussed. The extraction processes were done in the range of temperatures from 331.15 to 365.15 K and at atmospheric pressure. Results show that the extraction of mercury compounds from SH groups of sulfhydryl proteins in fish muscle tissue is an endothermic process with a positive value for entropy and Gibbs free energy changes at room temperature.

Investigation of salinity impacts on germination and growth of two forest tree species at seedling stage

Soil salinity is becoming an increasingly serious constraint to plant growth in many parts of the world; this is particularly common in semi-arid and arid zones. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of salt on seed germination and seedling growth of Acacia albida and A. salicina. Collected seeds were treated with H2SO4 98% for 35 min then left to germinate in a controlled growth chamber. Seeds were grown at salinity levels of 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mol.L1 of NaH2PO4.H20. Germination parameters and seedling growth indices were measured after 35 days. The mean of total length ofA. salicina in all salinity concentrations was more than that of ：4. albida. The fresh weight of stem and root of ：4, albida was more than that of ：4. salicina. Growth of control seedlings was higher than for other treatments and the fresh weight of stems of two species at salt concentrations of 0.2 and 0,3 *** decreased with increasing concentration of salt. Most Control seeds germinated at salinity of 0.1 *** and germination index, final germination and seeds stamina was greater at low levels of salinity.

Glucocorticoids and prostate cancer treatment： friend or foe？

Glucocorticoids have been used in the treatment of prostate cancer to slow disease progression, improve pain control and offset side effects of chemo- and hormonal therapy. However, they may also have the potential to drive prostate cancer growth via mutated androgen receptors or glucocorticoid receptors （GRs）. In this review we examine historical and contemporary use of glucocorticoids in the treatment of prostate cancer, review potential mechanisms by which they may inhibit or drive prostate cancer growth, and describe potential means of defining their contribution to the biology of prostate cancer.
