Intervention Retrofitting a.d Reha.ilita.ion of a.-gawhara Pa.a.e a. the Sa.a.in Cita.el, Ca.ro, Egypt

a.-gawhara Pa.a.e a.so known a. Bijou Pa.a.e is loca.ed in the south of the Mosque of Muha.ma. a.i in Sa.a.in Cita.el in Ca.ro (Figure 1 a.d Figure 2). It wa. commissioned a.d constructed by Muha.ma. a.i Pa.ha.in 1814. a.-gawhara Pa.a.e is one of the most fa.ous historica. roya. pa.a.es in Egypt a.d the most importa.t modern a.chitectura. herita.e tha. reflects a. importa.t historica. period of the Egyptia. modern history—the period of the rule of the fa.ily of “Muha.ma. a.i Pa.ha.. The ca.ses of structura. deficiency of the pa.a.e could be a.tributed to ma.y rea.ons a.d a.tions, ma.nly due to the ea.thqua.es a.d seismic events (in pa.ticula. the Da.shuor ea.thqua.e, in October 1992), degra.a.ion of dra.na.e a.d feeding systems lea.ing to wa.er lea.a.e, la.k of a.a.eness of the pa.a.e va.ues, deteriora.ion resulting from the use of old government a.encies a.d the conflicts a.ong a.thorities supervising historica. buildings. The present study includes ma.y pha.es: 1) the significa.ce of the origina. building from the circumsta.ces a.d da.e of construction;2) deta.led studies of the a.chitectura. fea.ures a.d design of the building a. well a. construction type, methods a.d techniques of construction;3) cha.a.teriza.ion of the construction a.d building ma.eria.s;4) sta.ility a.a.ysis of the structure under sta.ic a.d the impa.t of seismic loa.ings;5) engineering mea.ures for intervention retrofitting of the pa.a.e (this pilot study presents the ma.n design studies for intervention retrofitting a.d the reha.ilita.ion a.d re-employment of a.-gawhara Pa.a.e, sta.ted from the sta.ic monitoring, old a.d modern documenting of the current sta.e of preserva.ion thorough the strengthening project implementa.ion;6) the study a.so presents the reuse designs to convert the pa.a.e to be a.na.iona. museum, for the purpose of preserving it by proposing the best mea.s to a.ply the correct principles a.d criteria.for reuse a.d employment in a.ma.ner tha. preserves its va.ue through the
