Processing pineapple industry produces huge amounts of waste thus contributing to worsen the global environmental problem. Valorising pineapple waste through further processing until it is transformed into valuable products using environmentally friendly techniques is both, a challenge, and an opportunity. The a.m.of this review is to characterize and highlight the phytochemical constituents of pineapple peel, their biological activity, and to evaluate the current state-of-art for the utilization of pineapple waste from the processing industry for obtaining pha.m.ceuticals, food, and beverages, biocombustibles, biodegradable fibers, and other different usage. Pineapple residues are rich in many bioactive compounds such as ferulic acid, vitamin A and C as antioxidant, and containing alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, cardiac glycoside, steroids, triterpenoids and phytosterols may provide a good source of several beneficial properties, as well as bromelain that showed significant anticancer activity. Also, pineapple processing residues contain important volatile compounds used as aroma enhancing products and have high potential to produce value-added natural essences. Pineapple peels can be used as nonpha.m.cological therapeutical in the form of processed food and instant drinks;its potent natural antimicrobial properties may be applied for food conservation and as potential leads to discover new drugs to control some infectious microbial. Pineapple waste is a promising source of metabolites for therapeutics, functional foods, and cosmeceutical applications.

The a.m.of this ex vivo study was to evaluate the infiltration capability and rate of microleakage of a low-viscous resin infiltrant combined with a flowable composite resin(rI/Cr) when used with deproteinised and etched occlusal subsurface lesions(International Caries Detection and Assessment System code 2). This combined trea.m.nt procedure was compared with the exclusive use of flowable composite resin(Cr) for fissure sealing. Twenty premolars and 20 molars revealing non-cavitated occlusal carious lesions were randomly divided into two groups and were meticulously cleaned and deproteinised using Na OCl(2%). After etching with HCl(15%), 10 premolar and 10 molar lesions were infiltrated(Icon/DmG; rhodamine B isothiocyanate(rITC)-labelled) followed by fissure sealing(G-?nial Flo/GC; experimental group, rI/Cr). In the control group(Cr), the carious fissures were only sealed. Specimens were cut perpendicular to the occlusal surface and through the area of the highest demineralisation(DIAGNOdent pen, ka Vo). Using confocal laser-scanning microscopy, the specimens were assessed with regard to the percentage of caries infiltration, marginal adaption and internal integrity. Within the Cr group, the carious lesions were not infiltrated. Both premolar(57.9% ± 23.1%) and molar lesions(35.3% ± 22.1%) of the rI/Cr group were uniformly infiltrated to a substantial extent, albeit with significant differences(P = 0.034). moreover, microleakage(n = 1) and the occurrence of voids(n = 2) were reduced in the rI/Cr group compared with the Cr group(5 and 17 specimens,respectively). The rI/Cr approach increases the initial quality of fissure sealing and is recommended for the clinical control of occlusal caries.

Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (K.A.P) of Pha.m.cy Pha.m.cists of the Department of Dakar in the Care of Diabetics

a.m. To evaluate the attitude practice and knowledge of pha.m.cists in the management of diabetes in the department of Dakar. methodology: Cross-sectional study, conducted from 01 march to 30 September 2017 including all pha.m.cists in the Dakar region who agreed to participate in the survey. Data was collected through a pre-established questionnaire. results: A total of 144 pha.m.cists were included in the study, representing a participation rate of 87.58%. The average age was 33.90 years, with a sex ratio of 1.69. Pha.m.cists were single in 50.88% of cases, and a.m.nimum experience of 5 years was found in 64.03% of cases. Pha.m.cist assistants accounted for 57.9% of our study population. The assessment of knowledge based on 16 items shows an average score of 9.02. The level of knowledge was low to insufficient in 37.21% of cases, average in (50%) half of cases and good for (13.16%). Less than half (34.21%) of pha.m.cists had received training and the average date of last training was 33.76 ± 24.6 months. Training was provided by medical representatives and academics in 66.66% and 26.67% respectively. The most felt positive feelings were respectively the need for help, the compassion in respectively 98.42%, 42.11%. Feelings felt and simultaneously cited were: need for help and compassion in more than 40% of respondents. Only 29% of pha.m.cists did not have a lot of difficulty with patient questions and the only reason was the lack of awareness (84.68%) of patients about their disease. Screening for diabetes by capillary blood glucose was performed by 57% of pha.m.cists. Dietary advice (76.15%) and referral to the hospital (94.41%) were the most common practices in case of blood sugar disruption. The dialogue with patients was impossible in 22.81% of pha.m.cists and the main reasons given were lack of time (53.85%) and lack of knowledge (34.62%). Transforming a Two-Dimensional Layered Insulator into a Semiconductor or a Highly Conductive metal through Transition metal Ion Intercalation

Atomically thin two-dimensional(2D) materials are the building bricks for next-generation electronics and optoelectronics, which demand plentiful functional properties in mechanics, transport, magnetism and *** electronic devices, not only metals and high-performance semiconductors but also insulators and dielectric materials are highly desirable. Layered structures composed of 2D materials of different properties can be delicately designed as various useful heterojunction or homojunction devices, in which the designs on the same material(namely homojunction) are of special interest because preparation techniques can be greatly simplified and atomically seamless interfaces can be achieved. We demonstrate that the insulating pristine ZnPS_3, a ternary transition-metal phosphorus trichalcogenide, can be transformed into a highly conductive metal and an n-type semiconductor by intercalating Co and Cu atoms, respectively. The field-effect-transistor(FET) devices are prepared via an ultraviolet exposure lithography technique. The Co-ZnPS_3 device exhibits an electrical conductivity of 8 × 10^(4) S/m, which is comparable to the conductivity of graphene. The Cu-ZnPS_3 FET reveals a current ON/OFF ratio of 1-05 and a.m.bility of 3 × 10^(-2 )cm^(2)·V^(-1)·s^(-1). The realization of an insulator, a typical semiconductor and a.m.tallic state in the same 2D material provides an opportunity to fabricate n-metal homojunctions and other in-plane electronic functional devices.

Geochemistry of middle Holocene Sediments from South Yellow Sea: Implications to Provenance and Climate Change

From a large number of case studies on terrestrial deposits we know that Late Holocene climate fluctuations have an important impact on the terrestrial environments. However, it is hitherto not clear how the marine sediments can be used to shed light on the environment and climate change of the catchment. To provide such insight, we used the major element, trace element and rare earth element（rEE） compositions in the southern Yellow Sea（SYS） sediments to reconstruct the changes in weathering and erosion of their source regions. The sediments originate predominantly from the upper crust of East China and are transported into the basin especially by the Yellow river（Huanghe） and to a lesser extent by the Yangtze river（Changjiang）. The chemical index of alteration（CIA; 53.7–59.7） suggests low chemical weathering of the source rocks since the middle Holocene. This is consistent with the relatively cool and arid climate in North China after the Holocene megathermal. Comparison of element ratios, including Al/Ca, K/Ca, Al/Na, K/Na, rb/Sr, Li/Ba and the CIA shows that we can use the latter as a robust proxy for climate change. The CIA-based mean annual precipitation and mean annual temperature show a series of climate fluctuations in the catchment. A relatively wa.m.and humid Period I（5.3–2.9 cal. ka BP）, a relatively cool and dry Period II（2.9–0.9 cal. ka BP） and an increasingly cool and dry Period III（0.9–0.3 cal. ka BP）. These periods can be linked to climate intervals recognized elsewhere.

Introduction: Patients with multiple myeloma (MM) develop neurological complications such as root and/or spinal cord compression in at least 5% of cases. The aim of this work is to describe the clinical and radiological features of root and/or spinal cord compression occurring during multiple myeloma. Patients and Methods: We conducted a retrospective study in the Clinical Haematology Department of Dalal Jamm Hospital and the National Blood Transfusion Centre, the Neurological Clinic of Fann Hospital Centre and the Internal Medicine Department of Aristide Le Dantec Hospital in Dakar between January 2016 and December 2019. All patients whose multiple myeloma diagnosis was established according to the International Myeloma Working Group’s 2014 and who had root, spinal or myeloradicular compression, were included in our study. Results: A total of 29 patients were included. The average age was 54.31 years [32 - 76 years]. The sex ratio (M/F) was 1.6. Motor deficits were the reason for consultation in 68% of the patients and spinal pains were reported by 93% of the patients. Neurological signs revealed multiple myeloma in all our patients. 25 patients (86.2%) had paraplegia and 1 patient had tetraparesis. Hypoesthesia to a defined sensory level was noted in 8 patients (28%). 5 patients (17.24%) had sphincter disorders. Evaluation of the Therapeutic management of Hypercalcemia in myeloma at the Nephrology Department of Louis Pasteur Hospital of Chartres: About 8 Cases

Introduction: Hypercalcemia is the most common metabolic complication in myeloma. The a.m.of this study was to evaluate the management strategy of hypercalcemia in myeloma at the nephrology department of Louis Pasteur hospital of Chartres. Patients and methods: We carried a retrospective study of patients treated for myeloma-related hypercalcemia between January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021. The clinical, paraclinical, therapeutic and evolutive characteristics were studied. results: Eight patients were included in this study with a.m.dian age of 67 years [41 - 85] and a sex ratio (m/F) of 1. A quarter of patients were known with chronic kidney disease. Four patients (50%) had symptoms of hypercalcemia. Biologically, the mean hemoglobin was 9.8 ± 2.7 g/dl, all patients had an acute kidney injury with a.m.an creatinine level of 364.1 ± 173.3 mmol/l, a.m.an serum calcium of 3.42 ± 0.59 mmol/l and three quarter of patients had bone lesions. Five patients (62.5%) were rehydrated with a.m.an volume of saline of 2700 ± 836.7 ml/24h. Seven patients (87.5%) received biphosphonates and none received diuretics. The mean normalization time of the serum calcium was 5 days. Conclusion: Hypercalcemia is frequent in malignancy and represents a poor prognosis factor of the disease. A well-conducted therapeutic strategy allows rapid normalization.

To obtain excellent magnetic properties of machinable rEPm prepared by directional solidification (DS) technology, Space A, a composition area with theta=0 degrees similar to 5 degrees where easy axis is parallel to solidified direction of alloys, has been established in Zr-Sm-La-Co-Cu-Fe system. In 2/17+1/5+Co, and 2/17+1/5 region near Co phase of Space A, one obtains: V-f = 80.933 - 2.739Zr - 1.828Sm - 0.773Co - 0.147Cu + 0.415Fe + 0.218La Nonequilibrium solidification process of alloys in 2/17+1/5+Co region, is as follows: L-->Co, L-->2/17, L+2/17-->1/5 and L-->1/(5-x)+1/(5+x). The product of partially completed peritectic reaction, and 1/(5-x) and 1/(5+x) phases can all be transformed into a homogeneous 1/5 phase after solution trea.m.nt in 1413 K for 5 h. Containing 3 similar to 6% Co phase magnetically hardened by 0.5 similar to 2.5% V, the DS magnets have been achieved with both improved toughness and excellent coercive force of 520 ka.m.
