Plantago notata Lagasca (Plantaginaceae), a spontaneous plant used as a traditional medicine in Gharda a (Septentrional Sahara Algerian). This paper reports the extraction and partial characterization of water-soluble polysaccharides from Plantago notata leaves. These polysaccharides were obtained by sequential extraction in distilled water, followed by precipitation in 75% ethanol. The yield of extract is 2.0% (w/w). The crude water soluble polysaccharide extracts were further characterized and revealed the average values12.49±1.61% proteins and 85.03±1,13% carbohydrates, among them 20,34 ± 0,38%are uronic acid and79.65 ± 0.77% are neutral *** identification of monosaccharide composition by high performance anion exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD) method shows 43.95% of galactose, 20.28% of rhamnose, 11.30% of glucose 9.55% of arabinose and 12.57% of galacturonic acid.

Objectives: To study the epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic aspects of gastric adenocarcinoma at the Joliot Curie Institute in Dakar. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective study over a seven-year period from January 2010 to December 2017 at the Joliot Curie Institute in Dakar. All cases of gastric adenocarcinoma proven by fibroscopy followed by histology or proven on the histological analysis of a surgical specimen were taken into account. The parameters studied were age, risk factors, stages of the disease, treatment and prognosis. Results: There were 54 cases of gastric adenocarcinoma over a period of 7 years. The average age was 54.74 years with extremes of 25 and 84 years. A male predominance was noted (35/54). The main risk factors found were alcohol (5/54), tobacco (13/54), Helicobacter pilori (4/54), gastric ulcer (12/54). Epigastralgia was the most frequent clinical manifestation. Introduction: Measuring the quality of life (QOL) in recent years has become an indispensable tool in monitoring patients suffering from chronic diseases. We conducted this study to assess QOL of patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis in Dakar, and to identify associated factors. Patients and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study which was carried out from 10 to 30 June, 2011 in the peritoneal dialysis unit at university hospital in Dakar. We included all patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) of any age, who were on PD since at least six months and who gave their consent. The QOL was assessed using the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short-Form 1.2 (KDQoL-SF). Results: Sixteen patients were included with a mean age of 50.25 ± 13.48 years and a sex-ratio of 1.27. Considering SF-36, the overall mean score (SMG) was 60.11 ± 15.96 with a Mean Physical Component Summary Scale of 53.66 ± 16.98 and a Mental Component Summary Scale of 70.85 ± 6.14. Concerning the KDQoL-SF, the global mean score was 61.83 ± 19.35 with a mean physical score of 50.55 ± 16.52 and a mean mental score of 62.52 ± 21.53. The mean dialysis specific dimension score was 62.52 ± 21.53 and the mean mental health score was 85.93 ± 12.06. Age, weight, level of instruction and social support were correlated with a worse QOL. Conclusion: This study showed an alteration of our PD patients’ QOL, particularly in their physical health. However, the number of patients included in the study is not enough to permit a formal conclusion.

Parasitic meningoencephalitis presents several etiologies which sometimes depend on their geographical location. They require thorough blood and cerebrospinal fluid check-up for directing an efficient treatment. Clinicians and radiologists are constantly looking for specific signs that could point to a particular etiology. The meningoencephalitis caused by Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) due to Trypanosoma brucei gambiense (TG) is a rare disease characterized by a slow progression, over years sometimes. Its non-specific presentation either clinically or in imaging can lead to misdiagnosis and thus, delay the treatment. However, involvement of the optic tracts seems to be characteristic of this condition, on old data from animal experimentation and recent high-field MRI data. MRI is the best current technique to explore the brain, cranial nerves, and visual pathways. In this article, we are going to present two observations of meningoencephalitis caused by HAT and then discuss some specific aspects of this neglected and re-emerging disease.

Inter Atrial Communication in Adults: About 5 Cases in Guinea

Inter auricular communication (AIC) is the most common congenital heart disease after aortic bicuspid disease with an incidence of 5%?-?10% in children and 30%?-?40% in adults. It represents 6% to 10% of congenital heart defects with septal defect. Inter auricular communications (AIC) are the most common cardiac malformations in adults. This was a retrospective study of 5 cases of inter-auricular communication discovered in adulthood in the cardiology department of the Ignace Deen National Hospital between 01 November 2018 and 31 May 2019. The diagnosis was made by the Cardiac Doppler ultrasound. During the study period,?5 cases of AIC were registered at the cardiac department Ignace Deen. The average age of our patients was 51.8 years with extremes of 20 and 70 years. This average age is comparable to that of the literature that reports most develop symptoms after 40 years. In this study, male dominance was noted with 60% versus 40% of female cases. The evolution was marked by a death case of 20% who had AIC associated with an?inter ventricularcommunication (CIV) with signs of global heart failure and four cases had a favorable evolution or 80%.

Context: Technological advances have improved the toxicities of radiotherapy. We are evaluating the 3D technique in prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: Retrospective study from January 2015 to December 2015 with 29 files. Survival was calculated by Kaplan-Meier method. Results: We collected 29 patient records over the study period. The median age was 75 years with the following extremes: 54 years and 83 years. The median PSA level was 12 ng/ml with a range of 3.05 to 79 ng/ml. Gleason score analysis showed 6 patients (20.69%) with a score of 6 (3 + 3), 23 patients (79.31%) with a score of 7 including 12 patients (41.38%) with grade 3 and 11 patients (37.93%) with grade 4. The median dose delivered was 74 Gy, with a mean dose of 73.79 Gy and extremes of 70 Gy for the minimum and 76 Gy for the maximum. Hormone therapy was combined with radiotherapy in 17 patients (58.62%). Seven patients (24.14%) had grade 1 acute bladder toxicity and one patient (3.45%) had grade 2 acute toxicity. Late bladder toxicity was grade 1 in 5 patients (17.24%), grade 2 in 3 patients (10.34%) and grade 3 in 1 patient (3.45%). Late rectal toxicity, grade 2 in 3 patients (10.34%), grade 3 in 1 patient, was noted. Overall survival at 2 years was 100% and 89.65% at 5 years. Relapse-free survival at 2 years was 82.76% and 62.07% at 5 years. There were 3 deaths (10.34%) of which only one was related to prostate cancer.

The objective of this study is to present a simple method of statistical calculation that allowed us to determine the relationship between the different data obtained from the characterization of the synthetic carbonated apatites containing sodium, in order to find the fundamental substitution mechanism(s) for incorporation of Na+ and?CO32- and to establish the general formula. For that, a series of hydroxyapatites containing carbonate and sodium (Na-CO3HAps) has been obtained by the precipitation method. All the compounds were characterized by infrared spectra (IR), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and elemental analysis. The statistical treatment of the experiment result allows us to determine the relationship between one variable and the change in the other and to found the fundamental substitution mechanism(s) for incorporation of Na+ and?CO32- . Analysis of variance (ANOVA) allows us to test the models proposed.

Introduction: Patients with multiple myeloma (MM) develop neurological complications such as root and/or spinal cord compression in at least 5% of cases. The aim of this work is to describe the clinical and radiological features of root and/or spinal cord compression occurring during multiple myeloma. Patients and Methods: We conducted a retrospective study in the Clinical Haematology Department of Dalal Jamm Hospital and the National Blood Transfusion Centre, the Neurological Clinic of Fann Hospital Centre and the Internal Medicine Department of Aristide Le Dantec Hospital in Dakar between January 2016 and December 2019. All patients whose multiple myeloma diagnosis was established according to the International Myeloma Working Group’s 2014 and who had root, spinal or myeloradicular compression, were included in our study. Results: A total of 29 patients were included. The average age was 54.31 years [32 - 76 years]. The sex ratio (M/F) was 1.6. Motor deficits were the reason for consultation in 68% of the patients and spinal pains were reported by 93% of the patients. Neurological signs revealed multiple myeloma in all our patients. 25 patients (86.2%) had paraplegia and 1 patient had tetraparesis. Hypoesthesia to a defined sensory level was noted in 8 patients (28%). 5 patients (17.24%) had sphincter disorders. The types of lesions showed by imaging were vertebral lysis in 100% of cases, vertebral compression in 37% of cases, and epidural infiltration in 34% of cases. 12 patients (41.37%) had spinal compression, 14 patients (48.27%) had

The monochromatic absorption coefficient of silicon, inducing the light penetration depth into the base of the solar cell, is used to determine the optimum thickness necessary for the production of a large photocurrent. The absorption-generation-diffusion and recombination (bulk and surface) phenomena are taken into account in the excess minority carrier continuity equation. The solution of this equation gives the photocurrent according to absorption and electronic parameters. Then from the obtained short circuit photocurrent expression, excess minority carrier back surface recombination velocity is determined, function of the monochromatic absorption coefficient at a given wavelength. This latter plotted versus base thickness yields the optimum thickness of an n+-p-p+ solar cell, for each wavelength, which is in the range close to the energy band gap of the silicon material. This study provides a tool for improvement solar cell manufacture processes, through the mathematical relationship obtained from the thickness limit according to the absorption coefficient that allows base width optimization.
