Introduction: Therapeutic patient education is a continuous, integrated, patient-centered process. A study was conducted in the Asthma School in the pneumophtisiology department of Senegal. Overall goal was to determine the influence of therapeutic education on the quality of life of asthmatics. Method: Transverse study, descriptive and evaluative therapeutic education provided in the school of asthma on quality of life for asthma patients. Data were analyzed through IBM SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) version 20. Results: 100 asthmatic patients were included with a sex ratio of 0.37. The average age of the patients was 36.76 years old. The majority (81.3%) (n = 39) being new participants. The average scores for symptoms, exposure to stimuli, emotions and limiting activities stay higher for adherent patients as well as the score overall quality of life. Conclusion: The school of asthma, associated with the therapeutic management, can improve the control of the disease and the quality of life of the patient.

The monochromatic absorption coefficient of silicon, inducing the light penetration depth into the base of the solar cell, is used to determine the optimum thickness necessary for the production of a large photocurrent. The absorption-generation-diffusion and recombination (bulk and surface) phenomena are taken into account in the excess minority carrier continuity equation. The solution of this equation gives the photocurrent according to absorption and electronic parameters. Then from the obtained short circuit photocurrent expression, excess minority carrier back surface recombination velocity is determined, function of the monochromatic absorption coefficient at a given wavelength. This latter plotted versus base thickness yields the optimum thickness of an n+-p-p+ solar cell, for each wavelength, which is in the range close to the energy band gap of the silicon material. This study provides a tool for improvement solar cell manufacture processes, through the mathematical relationship obtained from the thickness limit according to the absorption coefficient that allows base width optimization.

The indispensable role of energy in the correct functioning of economies and the current depletion of fossil fuels which are not renewable, have made the search for alternative energy sources a major point of reflection worldwide. Vegetable oils are increasingly being considered as a possible replacement for fossil fuels in countries of the south and North. In order to vulgarize the use of vegetable oil as fuel, it is essential that analytical protocols and standards are elaborated to assure the quality of oils as fuels. This work aims at developing protocols for the characterization of oilseeds and their resultant oils in a bid to ensure their quality for direct use as Biofuels or better still to serve as raw material in producing Biofuels. These protocols have the advantage of being reproducible, fast, and simple to implement compared to those used in Europe to characterize the oils (very complex and expensive, applied to petroleum products). Cotton, Jatropha curcas, white sesame, and peanut grains were acquired from the Zogona local market, Ouagadougou, and oil extraction was done at the village level. The resultant oils were characterized. Their physicochemical parameters (water content, oil content, acid index, the calorific value, density, and viscosity....) were evaluated at the Biomass Energy and Biofuels Laboratory (LBEB) of the International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering (2iE) and the Burkinabé National Hydrocarbons Authority (SONABHY) Laboratory. The oilseed grain cakes (moisture, ash rate, rate of volatile matter, and oil content...) were also analysed.

Today, renewable energy projects connected to the interconnected network, with powers of the order of tens of megawatts, are more and more numerous in sub-Saharan Africa. And financing these investments requires a reliable amortization schedule. In the context of photovoltaic systems connected to the interconnected electricity grid, the quintessence of damping is the amount of energy injected into the grid. Thus it is fundamental to know the parameters of this network and their variation. This paper presents an evaluation of the impact of power grid disturbances on the performance of a solar PV plant under real conditions. The CICAD photovoltaic solar plant, connected to the Senelec distribution network, with an installed capacity of 2 MWp is the study setting. An energy audit of the plant is carried out. Then the percentage of each loss is determined: voltage drops, module degradation, inverter efficiency. The duration of each disconnection is measured and recorded daily. The corresponding quantity of lost energy is thus calculated from meteorological data (irradiation, temperature, wind speed, illumination) recorded by the measurement unit in one-minute steps. The observation period is three months. The total duration of disconnections related to the instability of the electrical network during the study period is 46.7 hours. The amount of energy lost is estimated at 22.6 MWh. This represents 2.4% of the actual calculated production.

Energy consumption in the building sector is constantly increasing and represents more than 44% in the residential and tertiary sectors in many countries [1]. Thus, the building represents a real possibility of energy saving and is the subject of several studies particularly in actual context of experimentation with materials based on plant fibers (hemp, flax, millet wastage, etc.). These biobased materials such as typha have shown real interest in the buildings construction due to their light and porous nature. It’s in this context that we were interested in typha australis mixed with classic aggregates (cement, sand, gravel 3/8) to make typha’s concrete. On this concrete, we carried out experimental measurements in order to better understand its contributions in the building. The interesting results obtained show that typha australis, which is an invasive and harmful grass, can be valued and integrated among local building materials in the form of typha’s concrete in order to improve the energy efficiency of buildings.

Tele-Analytical Characterization of the Eburnean Tectonic Structures within the Birimian Formations of Mako Area, Eastern Senegal

The tectonic structures of the Mako area in the Kédougou-Kéniéba inlier (KKI) were mapped with tele-analytical investigation which is validated by field data. This study is based on different images processing in particular: 1) the colored combinations (1 to 5) and panchromatic (8) thematic mapping bands of the Landsat-8 (ETM+) satellite;2) Digital Elevation Model (DEM) image of Space Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM);3) airborne geophysics (aeromagnetic and radiometric) images. In these images, four major directions of lineaments NS, NNE-SSW, NW-SE and EW would be related to the tectonic structures, have been identified and mapped. Field data confirm these four structural directions and show that most of these lineaments are related to faults, shear and/or thrust zones, or even basic rock dykes. N-S to NE-SW oriented lineaments are more frequent followed by those NW-SE oriented. These two directions of lineaments are generally in correlation with trajectories of major sinistral shear zones in the Mako area. They would be associated with the S2a and S2b schistosities relative to the D2 Eburnean major deformation. Introduction: At university, habits, particularly eating habits, can negatively impact well-being. This study aimed to describe lifestyle habits and dietary diversity among medical students. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive study, carried out at the UFR 2S of the University Gaston Berger from May 23 to June 3, 2023. The collection tool focused on sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle habits and dietary diversity. Statistical analyzes were carried out using R software. Results: A total of 471 students participated in this study. Which corresponds to a participation rate of 89.2% with a M/F sex ratio of 1.66. The age of participants, varying from 18 to 32 years, had a median of 23 years and a mean of 22.4 years with a standard deviation of 2.2 years. Among the participants, 67.2% skipped breakfast, and 28.5% did not practice any physical sports activity. Alcohol and tobacco were consumed by 2.5% and 0.6% of participants, respectively. The most consumed foods were starchy foods (97.5% of men and 98.4% of women);and the least consumed were dark green leafy vegetables (21.9% of men and 15.1% of women) and offal (16.9% of men and 11.9% of women). The dietary diversity score was low for 31.9% of men and 28.7% of women. Conclusion: Certain lifestyle habits (skipping breakfast, dining late at night, lack of sports practice) of Medicine students at UGB can prove deleterious to their well-being. These students are at risk of developing several deficiencies in terms of food groups that are underrepresented in their diet. Awareness sessions on good lifestyle habits and diet would be relevant recommendations for improving the health of these students.

Global ecological concerns have resulted in an interest in renewable natural materials. Composites based on high density polyethylene (HDPE), wood fiber (Veneer) and containing coupling agents like nanoclay (NC) and poly-ethylene-co-glycidyl methacrylate (PEGMA) were made by melt compounding and then injection molding. In this study, the effects of two variable parameters namely nanoclay and coupling agent on the rheological and thermal properties of wood polyethylene composites (WPECs) were investigated. The study investigates the morphology phase, rheology behaviors and thermal properties by scanning electron microscope, capillary rheometer and thermal gravimetric analyzer. The SEM micrographs of the composites showed that the outer surfaces of the wood were coated by a section of amorphous lignin. The state of dispersion in HDPE/pine/clay composites was improved by EGMA because it could interact with pine flour in addition to clay. The interaction of reinforcement with coupling agent and HDPE matrix is strong based on the observation of the fracture surface of composites when EGMA is present. However the addition of 2.5% clay slightly lowered the initial degradation temperature (Td) but did not improve the thermal stability. Obviously, all the composites materials exhibit viscoelastic values greater than those of neat HDPE.
