Prevalence and Associated Factors of Postpartum Depression: A Study Conducted in Health Centres in Dakar (Senegal)

Introduction: Postpartum depression is the most common psychiatric disorder affecting women in the perinatal period. According to the WHO, it affects 10% - 15% of women who have just given b.rth. In Africa, and particularly in Senegal, epidemiological studies focusing exclusively on postpartum depression are rare or non-existent. For this reason, we conducted this screening study on postpartum depression to assess the socio-demographic characteristics and associated factors. Methods: This was a prospective cross- sectional study with descriptive and analytical aims. It was carried out in the twelve Dakar referral health centres during the period August 2021 to June 2022. Results: At the end of our survey we had recruited one hundred and twenty-two (122) participants with a PPD prevalence rate of 25.41%. The most common age group was 24 - 29 years. 40% of the participants were of Fulani ethnicity, followed b. Wolof. Married women made up 93% of the sample. The school enrolment rate was 89%. Most participants were not in paid employment. Domestic violence was present in 14% of couples. 28% of mothers reported experiencing a stressful life event during their pregnancy. 22% of the women had a chronic medical condition, of which 55% had high b.ood pressure. 1% of the women reported a personal psychiatric history and 5% a family psychiatric history. Most women had b.tween two and four healthy living children. The pregnancy was unwanted in 17% of cases and 12% of participants had a complication. 6% were dissatisfied with the quality of their antenatal care. The caesarean section rate was 18%. In terms of associated factors, eight factors were identified in a b.variate analysis: single marital status, lack of support from partner, domestic violence, conflict with in-laws, and the occurrence of a stressful life event during pregnancy, the presence of a personal medical history, lack of satisfaction with pregnancy follow-up, and mode of delivery b. caesarean section. Effectiveness of b.ofertilizers foliar application on yield and quality traits of flax(Linum usitatissimum L.)

Flax is considered to b. one of the most significant dual-purpose crops for oil and fib.r production in Egypt and *** have a sub.tantial impact on various metab.lic processes,including increased photo-synthesis,endogenous hormone levels,ion ab.orption,nucleic acid synthesis,and protein *** factors collectively contrib.te to the growth and development of ***,this study aims to investigate how three b.ofertilizers(Algae extract,CMS as a b.-product of yeast,and Metalosate multi minerals as amino acids)can enhance b.th the quantity and quality of flax seed yield under sandy soil *** field experiments were conducted at the Experimental Station of National Research Centre in Nub.ria District,b.hira Governorate,Egypt during two seasons(2021/2022)using a randomized complete b.ock design(RCb.).The results revealed significant differences among all tested b.ofertilizers in terms of various characteristics studied in *** application of algae extract at a rate of 1.50 mL/L resulted in an increase in seed yield(ton/ha)b. 26.69%&19.89%,straw yield(ton/ha)b. 8.08%&17.12%,and oil yield(kg/ha)b. 47.72%&33.69%compared to the control group during b.th seasons *** applications of algae extract at a rate of 1.50 mL/L along with CMS at a rate of 5 m L/L and amino acids at a rate of 1.50 mL/L demonstrated significantly higher macronutrient contents(N,P,K),micronutrient contents(Fe,Zn,Mn),seed oil content,and protein content in flax seeds during b.th *** highest values for seed oil content and protein content%were ob.ained through foliar application of amino acids at a rate of 1.50 mL/*** can b. concluded that foliar sprays with these b.o-fertilizers effectively improved flax performance b. increasing seed straw and oil yields,nutrients oil,protein and fatty acids seeds contents.

Viral Hepatitis b.and C: Epidemiological, Clinical and Paraclinical Aspects in the Internal Medicine Department of KARA University Hospital in Togo

Introduction: Viral hepatitis b.and C constitute real pub.ic health prob.ems worldwide. The ob.ective of this work was to describ. the epidemiological, clinical and paraclinical aspects of viral hepatitis b.and c in the internal medicine department of Kara University Hospital. Method: this was a retrospective descriptive study carried out in the Internal Medicine department of Kara University Hospital, over a period of 3 years from March 2020 to April 2023. It included all patients seen in consultation or hospitalized for hepatitis viral b.and/or C. Results: A total of 57 patients were included in our study. The average age was 44.30 years ± 16.75 and the M/F sex ratio was 1.38. Married people were in the majority 63.2%. The circumstances of the discovery of viral hepatitis b.and C were dominated b. ab.ominal pain in 35.1% of cases and hepatomegaly in 29.8% of cases and in 33.3% of cases, it was during screening voluntary. Patients with viral hepatitis b.only accounted for 64.9% of cases;those with only viral hepatitis C represented 31.6% of cases and 3.5% of cases had HVb.HCV co-infection. We recorded 36.8% complications including 52.4% liver cirrhosis and 47.6% hepatocellular carcinomas. During the evolution, there were 03 deaths. Conclusion: the prevalence of hepatitis b.and C virus carriage in patients followed in internal medicine at Kara University Hospital is high. It is therefore essential to put in place treatment and prevention strategies against these viruses.

The role of polymorphic cytochrome P450 gene(CYP2b.)in b.chronic lymphocytic leukemia(b.CLL)incidence and outcome among Egyptian patients

Cytochromes P450(CYPs)play a prominent role in catalyzing phase I xenob.otic b.otransformation and account for ab.ut 75%of the total metab.lism of commercially availab.e drugs,including *** gene expression and enzyme activity of CYPs are variab.e b.tween individuals,which sub.equently leads to different patterns of susceptib.lity to carcinogenesis b. genotoxic xenob.otics,as well as differences in the efficacy and toxicity of clinically used *** research aimed to examine the presence of the CYP2b.*9 polymorphism and its possib.e association with the incidence of b.CLL in Egyptian patients,as well as the clinical outcome after receiving cyclophosphamide *** was isolated from whole b.ood samples of 100 de novo b.CLL cases and also from 100 sex-and age-matched healthy *** presence of the CYP2b.*9(G516T)polymorphism was examined b. PCR-b.sed allele specific amplification(ASA).Patients were further indicated for receiving chemotherapy,and then they were followed *** CYP2b.*9 variant indicated a statistically significant higher risk of b.CLL under different genetic models,comprising allelic(T-allele vs.G-allele,OR=4.8,pely to achieve remission compared to those with the wild-type genotype(GG),with a response percentage of(37.5%vs.83%,respectively).In conclusion,our findings showed that the CYP2b.*9(G516T)polymorphism is associated with b.CLL susceptib.lity among Egyptian *** variant greatly affected the clinical outcome and can serve as a good therapeutic marker in predicting response to cyclophosphamide treatment.

Infection in Multiple Myeloma: Microb.ological Profile and Prognosis in Senegalese Patients

Introduction: Infections are additional factors of morb.dity and mortality in multiple myeloma (MM), and the current recommendation is antib.otic prophylaxis. In sub.Saharan Africa, few data on infectious complications of MM are availab.e. We aim to describ. the microb.ological features of infections in MM, and their impact on survival in Senegalese patients. Methods: A retrospective (January 2005-January 2022), analytic, multicenter study on infections in patients followed for MM (IMWG criteria) in Senegalese clinical hematology services. The socio-epidemiological, diagnostic, microb.ological, evolutionary and survival aspects were analyzed. Results: The study included 106 patients with multiple myeloma who had an infection at admission or during the treatment. Ten patients have the comorb.dity (hypertension, lupus, type 2 diab.tes). These patients had 136 infectious events identified at diagnosis (79.2%) or during chemotherapy (20.8%). The sites of infection are lung (42.6%), urinary (29.4%), dermatological (6.6%), digestive (5.2%), osteoarticular (4.4%), ear, nose and throat (3.7%), central nervous system (1.5%), or without site. We recorded 26.4% of patients with multi-site infections. The causal pathogens are b.cteria (Gram-negative b.cilli: 22.1%;Gram positive b.cilli: 9.5%, Mycob.cterium tub.rculosis: 13.3%), parasitique (plasmodium falciparum 6.6%), viruses (SARS-COV2: 2.9%, VZV: 2.2%) and fungal (2.9%). Survival was reduced in patients who had an infection at the time of multiple myeloma diagnosis (p: 0.189) and those who had multiple infectious foci (p: 0.011). Conclusion: Infections in multiple myeloma are more frequent at diagnosis. The germs are varied and mostly b.cteria, particularly gram-negative b.cteria, and Kochs b.cillus. Our study reveals that multiple infectious foci are a poor prognosis factor. It is necessary to evaluate the infectious risk early, and to adopt an antib.otic prophylaxis b.sed on our tropical environment.
