Crushing is a size reduction process that plays a key role in both mineral processing and crushing–screening plant design. Investigations on rock crushability have become an important issue in mining operations and the manufacture of industrial crusher equipment. The main objective of this research is to quantify the crushability of hard rocks based on their mineralogical and mechanical properties. For this purpose, the mineralogical, physical, and mechanical properties of various hard rocks were determined. A new compressive crushing value(CCV) testing methodology was proposed. The results obtained from CCV tests were compared with those from mineralogical inspections, rock strength as well as mechanical aggregate tests. Strong correlations were found between CCV and several rock and aggregate properties such as uniaxial compressive strength(UCS), the brittleness index(S_(20)), and aggregate impact value(AIV). Furthermore, the relationship between the mineralogical properties of the rocks and their CCVs were established. It is concluded that the proposed testing methodology is simple and highly repeatable and could be utilized as a pre-design tool in the design stage of the crushing process for rock quarries.

Fetal cells can enter maternal blood during pregnancy but whether they can also cross the blood-brain barrier to enter the maternal brain remains poorly understood. Previous results suggest that fetal cells are summoned to repair damage to the mother＇s brain. If this is confirmed, it would open up new and safer avenues of treatment for brain damage caused by strokes and neural diseases. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether a baby＇s stem cells can enter the maternal brain during pregnancy. Deceased patients who had at least one male offspring and no history of abortion and blood transfusion were included in this study. DNA was extracted from brain tissue samples of deceased women using standard phenol-chloroform extraction and ethanol precipitation methods. genomic DNA was screened by quantitative fluorescent-polymerase chain reaction amplification together with short tandem repeat markers specific to the Y chromosome, and 13, 18, 21 and X. Any foreign DNA residues that could be used to interpret the presence of fetal stem cells in the maternal brain were monitored. Results indicated that fetal stem cells can not cross the blood-brain barrier to enter the maternal brain.

Background:To investigate the topographic measurements and densitometry of corneas in Wilson’s disease(WD)patients with or without a Kayser-Fleischer ring(KF-r)compared to healthy ***:This cross-sectional study included 20 WD patients without a KF-r(group I),18 WD patients with a KF-r(group II),and 20 age-matched controls(group III).The Pentacam high resolution imaging system is used to determine corneal topographic measurements and ***:Mean age for groups I,II and III was 25.40±6.43 years(14-36 years),25.38±6.96 years(16-39 years),23.60±6.56 years(17-35 years),respectively(P=0.623).There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of the anterior corneal densitometry values(P>0.05),while the 6-10mm and 10-12 mm mid stroma and the 2-6 mm,6-10 mm,and 10-12 mm posterior corneal densitometry values in group II were significantly higher than those in groups I and III(for all values,Pgroup I were also significantly higher than those in group III(P=0.038).The central corneal thickness(CCT),thinnest corneal thickness(tCT),and corneal volume(CV)values in groups I and II were significantly lower than those in group III(for CCT values,P=0.011 and P=0.009;for tCT values,P=0.010 and P=0.005;for CV values,P=0.043 and P=0.029).Conclusion:In WD patients with a KF-r,corneal transparency decreased in the peripheral posterior and mid stromal corneal layers;for these patients,corneal transparency may be impaired not only in the peripheral cornea but also in the paracentral cornea.

We review some of the recent advances in the development of subwavelength plasmonic devices for manipulating light at the nanoseale, drawing examples from our own work in metal-dielectric-metal （MDM） plasmonic waveguide devices. We introduce bends, splitters, and mode converters for MDM waveguides with no additional loss. We also demonstrate that optical gain provides a mechanism for on/off switching in MDM plasmonic waveguides. Highly efficient compact couplers between dielectric waveguides and MDM waveguides are also introduced.

We compare the efficacy of intratesticular ozone therapy with intraperitoneal ozone therapy in an experimental rat model. For this purpose, 24 rats were divided into four groups including sham-operated, torsion/detorsion, torsion/detorsion plus intraperitoneal ozone （O-IP）, and torsion/detorsion plus intratesticular ozone （O-IT）. The O-IP ozone group received a 4 mg kg-1 intraperitoneal injection of ozone, and the O-IT group received the same injection epididymally. At 4 h after detorsion, the rats were sacrificed and orchiectomy materials were assessed histopathologically. Spermatogenesis in the seminiferous tubules and damage to the Sertoli cells were histopathologically evaluated in the testes using the Johnsen scoring system, i-NOS and e-NOS activities in the testis tissue were also evaluated. Torsion-detorsion caused a decreased Johnsen score and increased apoptosis of spermatogonial and Sertoli cells. Ozone injection prevented increases in Johnsen score and i-NOS level, e-NOS level of the O-IP group was significantly lower than that of the O-IP group, and i-NOS level of the O-IT group was significantly lower than that of the O-IP group. Local ozone therapy is more effective than systemic ozone therapy at improving IRI-related testicular torsion. Our study is the first to show that the efficacy of intratesticular implementation of ozone therapy is higher than that of intraperitoneal ozone therapy.
