Targeting hormone-resistant breast cancer cells with docetaxel:a look inside the resistance

Prins cyclisation of (-)-isopulegol with benzaldehyde over ZSM-5 based micro-mesoporous catalysts for production of pharmaceuticals

Several ZSM-5 derived micro-mesoporous catalysts were investigated in Prins cyclisation of (-)-isopulegol with benzaldehyde acting as a reactant and a solvent for production of heterocyclic oxygen containing 2H-chromene derivatives including the tetrahydropyran structure and exhibiting biological activity. The investigated catalysts were characterized by nitrogen adsorption, ammonia temperature programmed desorption, adsorption-desorption of pyridine and 2,6-di-tert- butylpyridine with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic control. For the Prins reaction performed at 70℃, the highest yield of the desired product, equal to 67% at complete conversion of (-)-isopulegol, was obtained over a micro-mesoporous catalyst containing an optimum amount of strong acid sites and mesopores, being 12 fold larger than the size of the desired product.

Biophotonics is an emerging multidisciplinary research area, embracing all light-based technologies applied to the life sciences and medicine [1-6]. The expression itself is the combination of the Greek syllables ＂bios＂ standing for life and ＂phos＂ standing for light. Photonics is the technical term for all methodologies and technologies utilizing photons over the whole spectrum from X-ray over the ultraviolet, visible and the infrared to the terahertz region, and its interaction with any matter. Beyond this definition, biophotonics is a scientific discipline of remarkable societal importance. As a part of photonics, it has proved to be an important enabling technology for accelerated progress in medicine and biotechnology. It can do so, because it originated at the interface of the most innovative academic disciplines of the last century, i.e., photonics, biotechnology and nanotechnologies. This field of research brings together scientists from different professions, such as physicists, biologists, pharmacists, medical doctors, etc. To work on common projects, they need to understand the ideas and the techniques of their counterparts.

Novel Synthesis Method of Nonst0ichiometric Na2-xlrO3 Crystal Structure, Transport and Magnetic Properties

Transition metal oxides with 4d or 5d metals are of great interest due to the competing interactions, of the Coulomb repulsion and the itineracy of the d-electrons, opening a possibility of building new quantum ground states. Particularly the 5d metal oxides containing Iridium have received significant attention within the last years, due to their unexpected physical properties, caused by a strong spin orbit coupling observed in It（Iv）. A prominent example is the Mott-insulator Sr2IrO4. Another member of this family, the honeycomb lattice compound Na2IrO3, also being a Mott-insulator having, most probably, a Kitaev spin liquid ground state. By deintercalating sodium from Na2IrO3, the authors were able to synthesize a new honeycomb lattice compound with more than 50% reduced sodium content. The reduction of the sodium content in this layered compound leads to a change of the oxidation state of iridium from ＋ Iv to ＋ v/＋ vI and a symmetry change from C2/c to P-3. This goes along with significant changes of the physical properties. Besides the vanishing magnetic ordering at 15 K, also the transport properties changes and instead insulating semiconducting properties are observed.

Huge variety of Nuclides That Arise in the LENR Processes: Attempt at Explanation

Researches in the field of low-energy nuclear reactions (LENR) have shown a wide variety of manifestations of these phenomena. They appear in metals with hydrogen dissolved in them, in plasma, in gas discharge, in electrolysis, and even in biological systems. In addition to energy release, which far exceeds the capabilities of chemical reactions, LENR is characterized by a huge variety of emerging chemical elements. This report provides examples of appearance of many initially missing elements in different LENR installations. For example, in the nickel-hydrogen LENR reactor created in our laboratory, which worked for 7 months, Ca, v, Ti, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ba, Sr, Yb, Hf were found. Moreover, new elements were found not only in the “fuel” but also in the surrounding matter. The huge variety of chemical elements that arise can be explained by the fact that in the processes of LENR, the interaction covers several atoms at once. The article discusses approaches to explaining the phenomena discovered in the process of LENR researches.

Optical bound states in the continuum(BICs)provide a way to engineer very narrow resonances in photonic *** extended interaction time in these systems is particularly promising for the enhancement of nonlinear optical processes and the development of the next generation of active optical ***,the achievable interaction strength is limited by the purely photonic character of optical ***,we mix the optical BIC in a photonic crystal slab with excitons in the atomically thin semiconductor MoSe_(2) to form nonlinear exciton-polaritons with a Rabi splitting of 27 mev,exhibiting large interaction-induced spectral *** asymptotic BIC-like suppression of polariton radiation into the far field toward the BIC wavevector,in combination with effective reduction of the excitonic disorder through motional narrowing,results in small polariton linewidths below 3 *** with a strongly wavevector-dependent Q-factor,this provides for the enhancement and control of polariton–polariton interactions and the resulting nonlinear optical effects,paving the way toward tuneable BIC-based polaritonic devices for sensing,lasing,and nonlinear optics.

The severity of septic arthritis of the hand and the prospects for restoration of joint function are determined by a complex of factors. Among them, the leading role belongs to local changes in tissue structures. This includes the destruction of articular cartilage and bone tissue with the development of osteomyelitis, the involvement of paraarticular soft tissues in the purulent process, and the destruction of the flexor/extensor tendons of the fingers. The currently missing specialized classification of septic arthritis could help in systematizing the diseases, determining treatment tactics, and predicting the results of *** classification of septic arthritis of the hand proposed for discussion is based on the following principle: Joint-Wound-Tendon(Jx Wx Tx);Jx characterizes damage to the osteochondral structures of the joint, Wx is the presence of paraarticular purulent wounds or fistulas, and Tx is destruction of the flexor/extensor tendons of the finger. The classification of the diagnosis makes it possible to assess the nature and severity of damage to the structures of the joint and may also be useful when comparing the results of treatment of septic arthritis of the hand.

Polymorphisms in the SNCA Gene: Association with the Risk of Development of the Sporadic Form of Parkinson’s Disease and the Level of SNCA Gene Expression in Peripheral Blood of Patients from Russia

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is one of the most common human neurodegenerative disorders caused by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the brain. The α-synuclein (SNCA) gene is one of the most studied genes involved in the pathogenesis of PD. In our study, we conducted a genetic analysis of promoter and intron single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the SNCA gene. We also analyzed the association of genotypes of these SNPs with expression levels of SNCA mRNA. One of four SNPs in the SNCA gene, and the rs2736990 polymorphism, associates with the risk of the sporadic form of PD in Russian population. The risk of PD was increased almost twofold in carriers of allele C (odds ratios = 1.9, 95% confidence interval: 1.2-2.91, p = 0.003). However, no association was found between any of the genotypes of SNPs tested (rs2583988, rs2619363, rs2619364 and rs2736990) and alterations in SNCA levels. Our findings support the hypothesis that the rs2736990 polymorphism is associated with PD. SNPs rs2583988, rs2619363 and rs2619364 in the promoter region of the SNCA gene themselves do not significantly influence the expression of SNCA. Most likely, SNCA gene expression is a very complex process that is affected by different genetic and epigenetic factors.
