Irregular dietary habits as a predictor of stunting occurrence among children under 5 years of age:a literature review

Objective:To identify the illustration of feeding patterns of stunting children using literature review method.methods:This study was a descriptive narrative research using literature review approach to explore dietary habits of children with stunting problem.All the literature review processes employed Guideline Review measurement of Joanna Briggs Institute.Related ar ticles in literature were obtained from journal databases,such as Pub med,Science Direct,Google Scholar,and Dimensions through structured research question with Patient,Exposure an interest,Outcome or response(PEO)methods.Results:This study found 2246 published ar ticles from 2018 to 2021 about children with stunting.Screening process was conducted fur ther to eliminate ar ticles with irrelevant titles and abstracts,and also the unsuitable ar ticles with the research question;hence,about 9 ar ticles were eligible to be reviewed ahead.All these ar ticles mentioned that children with irregular dietary habits would likely experience stunting.The low intake of nutritional food became the major predictor of stunting.Conclusions:Inappropriate feeding patterns and the variety of food were being the factors of stunting emergence among childrenmption of carbohydrates,less animal-based protein,and misunderstanding about intake of sweetenedcondensed milk predisposed children to suffer stunting.

The interaction between metabolic dysfunction and inflammation is central to the development of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.Obesity-related conditions like type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease exacerbate this relationship.Peripheral lipid accumulation,particularly in the liver,initiates a cascade of inflammatory processes that extend to the brain,influencing critical metabolic regulatory regions.Ceramide and palmitate,key lipid components,along with lipid transporters lipocalin-2 and apolipoprotein E,contribute to neuroinflammation by disrupting blood–brain barrier integrity and promoting gliosis.Peripheral insulin resistance further exacerbates brain insulin resistance and neuroinflammation.Preclinical interventions targeting peripheral lipid metabolism and insulin signaling pathways have shown promise in reducing neuroinflammation in animal models.However,translating these findings to clinical practice requires further investigation into human subjects.In conclusion,metabolic dysfunction,peripheral inflammation,and insulin resistance are integral to neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration.Understanding these complex mechanisms holds potential for identifying novel therapeutic targets and improving outcomes for neurodegenerative diseases.

Nipa palm is one of the non-wood plants rich in lignocellulosic content.In this study,palm fronds were converted into activated carbon,and their physical,chemical,and morphological properties were characterized.The resulting activated carbon was then applied as an adsorbent of Fe metal in peat water.The carbonization process was carried out for 60 min,followed by sintering at 400℃ for 5 h with a particle size of 200 mesh.KOH and H_(3)PO_(4) were used in the chemical activation process for 24 h.KOH-activated carbon contained 6.13%of moisture,4.55%of ash,17.02%of volatile matter,and 78.84%of fixed carbon,while its Fe reduction efficiency was 28.09%.The H_(3)PO_(4)-activated carbon contained 4.67%of moisture,2.84%of ash,16.41%of volatile matter,and 80.57%of bonded carbon,and the Fe reduction efficiency was 52.25%.KOH-activated carbon and H_(3)PO_(4)-activated carbon contained fixed carbon of 78.84%and 80.57%,respectively,while their average rates of efficiency of Fe reduction were 22.82%and 39.23%,respectively.Overall,the characteristics of activated nipa carbon met the Indonesian standards(SNI No.06-3730-1995).However,H_(3)PO_(4)-activated carbon was found to be better at adsorbing Fe metal from peat water.

BACKGROUND Osteoarthritis(OA)is the most common cause of pain and disability,predominantly affecting the knee.The current management of knee OA falls short of completely stopping disease progression,particularly in Kellgren-Lawrence(KL)grade 3 and 4 knee OA.As such,joint replacement is often recommended,although only 15%-33%of candidates accept it.Alternative therapeutic options are still needed to prevent the progression of joint damage and delay the need for knee arthroplasty.AIm To investigate the effect of adjunctive platelet rich plasma(PRP)and hyaluronic acid(HA)after arthroscopic debridement in KL grade 3 and 4 knee OA.mETHODS This retrospective cohort study used the Western Ontario and mcmaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOmAC)score and WOmAC sub-scores(pain,stiffness,and function)to assess 21 patients,grouped according to medical record data of treatment received:Arthroscopic debridement(n=7);arthroscopic debridement with PRP(n=7);or arthroscopic debridement with HA(n=7).WOmAC scores and sub-scores at baseline and at 3 mo and 5 mo posttreatment were recorded.The three-group data were statistically analyzed using the tests of paired t,one-way analysis of variance,and post hoc least significant difference.RESULTS All three treatment groups showed significant improvements in WOmAC score and sub-scores from before treatment to 3 mo and 5 mo after treatment.However,the arthroscopic debridement with PRP treatment group,in particular,showed a significantly lower WOmAC pain score than the group who received arthroscopic debridement alone at 5 mo after the procedure(P=0.03).CONCLUSION Compared to arthroscopic debridement alone,adjunctive PRP after arthroscopic debridement significantly lessened the patients’pain symptom.

The Adsorption of Pb(II)Using Silica Gel Synthesized from Chemical Bottle Waste:Optimization Using Box-Behnken Design

The adsorption of Pb(II)on silica gel synthesized from chemical glass bottle waste has been studied.The effect of independent variables(adsorbent dose,initial concentration of Pb(II),contact time,and pH)on the Pb(II)removal from water was evaluated and optimized using the Response Surface methodology(RSm).Under optimized conditions(adsorbent dose:20 mg;contact time:30 min;initial Pb(II)concentration:120 mg.L^(−1);and pH:8),the removal of Pb(II)was 99.77%.The adsorption equilibrium data obtained from the batch experiment were investigated using different isotherm models.The Langmuir isotherm model fits the experimental data.This shows that the surface of the silica gel synthesized from chemical bottles waste was covered by a Pb(II)monolayer.XRF analysis showed that the synthesized silica gel had a SiO_(2) content of 75.63%.Amorphous silica was observed from XRD analysis.SEm-EDX characterization showed that Pb was adsorbed on the silica gel surface.SEm analysis showed that silica gel has irregular particles with a surface area of 297.08 m2.g^(−1) with a pore radius of 15.74 nm calculated from BET analysis.

Adopting community-based innovations in agroforestry is key to enhancing livelihoods in forest farmer communities.This research aimed to explore the perceived advantages of the forest farmer technique of coffee branch bending to overcome the light limitations under the shade of a pine forest.The concepts of perceived characteristics of innovation were used to explore the advantages of this technique.Using a case study of an exclusive forest farmer clique in UB(University of Brawijaya)Forest in Indonesia,it was found that the local technique had high perceived relative advantages.Compared to the others,the bending technique increases coffee production and is easy to do.It was also found to be superior to reducing production costs and is perceived as more environmentally friendly,promoting it as a valuable sustainable practice.Technical experts need to validate it and may embrace it as a co-innovation for the available external agroforestry recommendations.Its adaptability to the local socio-ecological context and techno-economical constraints makes it a prospective innovation to be extended through social forestry programs.

Active tectonics of the eastern java based on a decade of recent continuous geodetic observation

The eastern part of Java Island is transversed by major faults such as Cepu,Blumbang,Surabaya,and Waru Segment,part of the Kendeng Fault,Wonsorejo Fault,Pasuruan Fault,and Probolinggo Fault.Due to the major fault,we used decomposition of identified fault from the Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)observation data to identify the potential of local deformation.We analyzed surface deformation due to the effect of major fault using scaling law and elastic half-space method.We investigated the possibility of unidentified fault using strain rates based on velocity vector data before and after correcting the effect of a major fault.We found that strain calculation for principal strain value in the eastern part of Java Island is less than one microstrain/year and the dominant one with a compression pattern due to the Sunda subduction zone.The maximum shear strain rate value goes from 0.002 to 0.094 microstrain/year,and the dilatation rate value ranges from-0.141 to 0.038 microstrain/year,which correlates with the reverse of the Kendeng Fault.A higher compression pattern outside the major fault in a differential maximum shear strain rate might indicate a local fault.

Eucalypts are important forest resources in southwestern China,and may be tolerant to elevated ground-level ozone(O3)concentrations that can negatively affect plant growth.High CO2 may offset O3-induced effects by providing excess carbon to produce secondary metabolites or by inducing stomatal closure.Here,the effects of elevated CO2 and O3 on leaf secondary metabolites and other defense chemicals were studied by exposing seedlings of Eucalyptus globulus,E.grandis,and E.camaldulensis×E.deglupta to a factorial combination of two levels of O3(mol mol^(−1)and 60 nmol mol^(−1))and CO2(ambient:370μmol mol^(−1)and 600μmol mol^(−1))in open-top field chambers.GC-profiles of leaf extracts illustrated the effect of elevated O3 and the countering effect of high CO2 on compounds in leaf epicuticular wax and essential oils,i.e.,n-icosane,geranyl acetate and elixene,compounds known as a first-line defense against insect herbivores.n-Icosane may be involved in tolerance mechanisms of E.grandis and the hybrid,while geranyl acetate and elixene in the tolerance of E.globulus.Elevated O3 and CO2,singly or in combination,affected only leaf physiology but not biomass of various organs.Elevated CO2 impacted several leaf traits,including stomatal conductance,leaf mass per area,carbon,lignin,n-icosane,geranyl acetate and elixene.Limited effects of elevated O3 on leaf physiology(nitrogen,n-icosane,geranyl acetate,elixene)were commonly offset by elevated CO2.We conclude that E.globulus,E.grandis and the hybrid were tolerant to these O3 and CO2 treatments,and n-icosane,geranyl acetate and elixene may be major players in tolerance mechanisms of the tested species.
