High-resolution angle-resolved photoemission study of oxygen adsorbed Fe/MgO(001)

We have investigated the electronic states of clean Fe(001) and oxygen adsorbed Fe(001)–p(1 × 1)-O films epitaxially grown on MgO(001) substrates by means of polarization-dependent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy(ARPES)and extensive density-functional theory(DFT) calculations. The observed Fermi surfaces and band dispersions of pure Fe near the Fermi level were modified upon oxygen adsorption. By the detailed comparison of ARPES and DFT results of the oxygen adsorbed Fe surface, we have clarified the orbital-dependent p–d hybridization in the topmost and second Fe ***, the observed energy levels and Fermi wave numbers for the oxygen adsorbed Fe surface were deviated from the DFT calculations depending on the orbital characters and momentum directions, indicating an anisotropic interplay of the electron correlation and p–d hybridization effects in the surface region.

Wetlands are essential subsystem of the general ecosystem with so many functions;like purification and sustenance of ground and surface water resources on earth, and its numerous services that it offers to animal, plant, human (local communities) and the nation’s economy at large. The issue of wetland degradation and wetland loss started when the world was seeing wetlands as unproductive, unhealthy land full of snakes and crocodiles. Niger Delta wetland ecosystem is a very rich and important ecosystem in Nigeria, it harbours some endemic spices both flora and fauna, a hotspot for biodiversity and it is of high economic value for the local communities. This paper reviews that changes have occurred in the study area and the Niger Delta wetlands. The changes were identified to be as a result of human activities (anthropogenic activities) and the ongoing environmental pressure resulting from the large scale oil exploration and exploitation, pipeline installation, urban expansion and agriculture. These were identified as some of the major threats to Apoi creek forest wetland. These findings were obtained after analysing the data obtained which helped to raise awareness that can assist to effectively monitor, protect and conserve the wetland ecosystem.

The features of myocardial strains from speckle-tracking echocardiography (STE) have not been well defined in fulminant myocarditis (FM) *** this study,changes in the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and global and layer-specific myocardial strains over time were *** aimed to determine the echocardiographic patterns of FM and ascertain their significance in FM *** patients who were clinically diagnosed with FM and received mechanical life support were prospectively *** echocardiographic measurements were obtained,and serial strain echocardiography was performed from admission to hospital discharge until LVEF recovery (> 50%).Global/regional peak systolic longitudinal strains (GLS/RLS) and layer-specific longitudinal strains were quantified,and their changes with time were monitored in 14 FM *** patients had severely impaired cardiac *** improvement in LVEF and GLS were observed within 6 ***-specific strain analysis showed that reduction at admission or recovery at discharge in the endocardium and epicardium strains were *** conclusion,FM patients who received mechanical circulatory supports exhibited steep improvement in ventricular function within 6 *** patchy and diffused distribution pattern of reduced RLS and equally and severely impaired strain in the endocardium and epicardium are valuable features in the diagnosis of FM.

Porous polymers have been recently recog- nized as one of the most important precursors for fabrication of heteroatom-doped porous carbons due to the intrinsic porous structure, easy available heteroatom- containing monomers and versatile polymerization meth- ods. However, the heteroatom elements in as-produced porous carbons are quite relied on monomers. So far, the manipulating of heteroatom in porous polymer derived porous carbons are still very rare and challenge. In this work, a sulfur-enriched porous polymer, which was prepared from a diacetylene-linked porous polymer, was used as precursor to prepare S-doped and/or N-doped porous carbons under nitrogen and/or ammonia atmo- spheres. Remarkably, S content can sharply decrease from 36.3% to 0.05% after ammonia treatment. The N content and specific surface area of as-fabricated porous carbons can reach up to 1.32% and 1508 m^2·g^-1, respectively. As the electrode materials for electrical double-layer capacitors, as-fabricated porous carbons exhibit high specific capacitance of up to 431.6 F·g^-1 at 5 mW·s^-1 and excellent cycling stability of 99.74% capacitance retention after 3000 cycles at 100 mV·s^-1. Furthermore, as the electro- chemical catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction, as- fabricated porous carbons presented ultralow half-wave- potential of 0.78 V versus RHE. This work not only offers a new strategy for manipulating S and N doping features for the porous carbons derived from S-containing porous polymers, but also paves the way for the structure- performance interrelationship study of heteroatoms co- doped porous carbon for energy applications.

As of 2015 （UNESCO, 2015）, the over-40-year-old Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage （1972） has been ratified by 191 nations, making it a universal and internationally recognised instrument for the protection of cultural and natural heritage. In the meantime, 1007 World Heritage Sites have been inscribed on the World Heritage List （as of February 2015） and two sites have been delisted. This paper discusses the delisting procedure of a site from the World Heritage List based on the Operational Guidelines for the Implementation of the World Heritage Convention （henceforth OG）. First of all, the question of the possibility to delist a site from the World Heritage List, in general, is addressed. And based on this discussion, the necessity of the consent of the State Party to the WHC on whose territory the site to be delisted is located is then examined.

Aim: This observational clinical study tested the effect of injection frequency of the biosimilar epoetin zeta on the weekly dose needed to maintain stable hemoglobin levels in chronic kidney diseases (CKD) patients on intermittent high-flux hemodialysis (HD). Patients and Methods: CKD patients (n = 33) on regular HD therapy 3 times a week were treated for 18 months with epoetin zeta i.v. The hemoglobin levels, the weekly dose as well as the injection frequency of epoetin zeta were monitored at least every two weeks. Patients were followed in three time periods: 1) extended follow-up (months 1 - 18);2) intervention phase (months 19 - 21);and 3) post intervention observation phase (months 28 - 30). During extended follow-up the majority of patients (n = 21) received only one injection of epoetin zeta per week. During the intervention phase, injection frequency was increased to 3 injections per week in all patients accompanied by a reduction in weekly doses of approximately 20% - 30%. Following a 9 month period of dose adjustment all parameters were monitored again in the post-intervention phase. Results: During the first 18 months of epoetin zeta therapy the mean hemoglobin level was stable between 11 and 12 g/dl. The mean weekly dose of epoetin zeta was 7939 IU/week in month 6 and 7909 IU/week in month 18 (p = not significant). The mean frequency (injections/week) was 1.27 in month 6 and 1.29 in month 18 (not significant). Compared to month 18, at the end of the observation at month 30, hemoglobin levels were stable, mean injection frequency increased to 2.25 (p < 0.001) and the mean weekly dose decreased to 5469 IU/week (-31.7%, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Increasing the injection frequency of the short acting biosimilar epoetin zeta to two to three injections per week reduces the weekly dose and thereby the costs of ESA therapy of renal anemia significantly.
