The objective was to study the relationship between the tumor factor of cancer MATLT and the catalytic subunit of telomerase. The function of telomerase in the blockade of cell differentiation and in the protection of DNA MT resembles closely the function of the tumor factor of cancer MATLT. Because of this close similarity we made an attempt to examine the possibility that the tumor factor of MATLT might be the catalytic subunit of telomerase. We used purified MAT isozymes, telomerase antibody, immunoprecipitation, and a selective inhibitor of the tumor factor of MATLT from urine to study the relationship between the tumor factor of MATLT and telomerase. We were able to show that the tumor MATLT, but not the liver MATL, was selectively inhibited by the telomerase antibody, and the tumor MATLT, but not the liver MATL, was preferentially immunoprecipitated with the telomerase antibody. The catalytic subunit of telomerase was detectable in the tumor MATLT preparation by immunoblotting, but was undetectable in the liver MATL preparation and the tumor MATL preparation stripped off of the tumor factor. In addition, PP-0.39, which is an effective differentiation inducer purified from urine previously found to selectively antagonize the tumor factor of MATLT, was found in this study to be a potent inhibitor of telomerase. The inhibition of telomerase by PP-0.39 was far more sensitive than the elimination of the tumor factor from MATLT. All results are consistent with the hypothesis that the tumor factor of MATLT is the catalytic subunit of telomerase. Thus, the blockade of cell differentiation by telomerase is mediated through its interaction with MAT to affect methylation enzymes, so that hypomethylation of nucleic acids necessary for the cell to undergo differentiation cannot take place.

LaFe13-x Mx(M=Si,Al)alloys are promising for use in magnetic ***,they require long annealing time(30 days)in order to optimize the magnetocaloric *** has shown that the addition of extra La in off-stoichiometric alloys can greatly shorten the annealing ***,the purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the extra addition of La on the annealing properties of a new off-stoichiometric La1.7Fe11.6Al1.4-xSix(x=0,0.1,0.4)*** was demonstrated that after a 36 h annealing time,a large volume fraction of 1:13 magnetocaloric phase was obtained for all *** microstructural analysis of the off-stoichiometric La1.7Fe11.6Al1.4-xSix alloys revealed a facet-like grain *** La1.7Fe11.6Al1.4 and La1.7Fe11.6Al1Si0.4 alloys were shown to contain large 1:13 phase precipitates separated in a La-rich matrix,while the La1.7Fe11.6Al1.3Si0.1 alloy had a continuous 1:13 phase matrix with a fine dispersion of La-rich precipitates *** the magnetic field varied between 0 and 2 T,the corresponding magnetic entropy change and relative cooling capacity for the La1.7Fe11.6Al1.3Si0.1 specimen were determined as 4.58 J/kg K and 173.6 J/kg,*** importantly,the La1.7Fe11.6Al1.3Si0.1 alloy displayed only a slight volume change when the meta-magnetic phase transition occurred,which is promising for cyclic use.

Theoretical and experimental results show that the state of minimum Ginsburg Landau free energy of small superconducting particles contains no flux line if the applied field is smaller than its critical field. For such micron sized particles, after being cooled in a small magnetic field (e.g. less than 100 μT), the moment remaining during subsequent zero field warming contains almost no contribution from trapped flux and is dominated entirely by the paramagnetic Meissner effect (PME) of the particles. A systematic study of such a moment has been carried out to reveal its characteristic behavior of temperature, magnetic field and cooling or warming rate dependence. Methods for removing and recovering the PME of small superconducting particles are also reported.

The purpose of the current study is to compare the influence of different aerobic conditions(biostimulation(BS), bioaugmentation(BA), and a combination of biostimulation and bioaugmentation(BB))on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAH) degradation and compare the degraded amount with single step XAD-4 extraction as a new tool for bioavailability assessment for chronically contaminated sediment samples obtained from territory of Autonomous Province Vojvodina of Serbia(S1, S2, and S3). A great number of papers dealing with biodegradation of PAHs in spiked sediment or soil have been published,but to the authors' knowledge, a limited number of papers studied aged, historically polluted sediment and a sum of chosen U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(USEPA) PAHs. A significant reduction(up to67%) in PAH concentration was observed, while the percentage of reduction varied depending on the sediment sample and treatment used. BS treatment successfully stimulated growth of indigenous bacteria. Further, PAH-degrading strain Sphingomonas paucimobilis F8 inoculated in BA and BB treatment survived for up to 7 weeks after it was suppressed by unfavorable conditions or native *** amounts generally showed good correlation with results obtained from XAD-4 *** obtained in the current study represent a good start for standardizing a XAD-4 extraction technique as a simplified, easier, and lower cost method for bioavailability assessment.

The formation of shear bands in metallic glasses(MGs)was examined by tailoring localized complex stress fields(LcSFs).The findings have shown that the LcSFs in MGs can increase the localization of strained atoms and accelerate the release of accumulated deformation energy for initiating a shear band in confined and thin-layered *** findings not only add more knowledge to the formation mechanisms of shear bands in MGs,but also provide possible rationale for the discrepancies in the mechanical properties of different-sized *** compared with the bulk samples,the higher strength and larger elastic limits in nanoscaled MGs could be attributed to the elimination of stress-concentrators,which can serve as LcSFs.

The experience,perception,awareness,and appreciation of the environment created by public spaces are important elements of urban *** this context,a strong link exists between perception,public spaces,and historical *** is one of the multilayered historical cities in ***’s holistic urban texture,close relationship with the river,and public spaces are associated with both the Iris River and the historical *** pilot study examines the Yalıboyu Promenade,a contemporary open public space designed along the river and across the historical texture in Amasya in Turkey to reveal how it affects people’s perception of the historical *** study uses the mixed method approach,which includes qualitative and quantitative *** the theoretical discussion,the study investigates the context of the *** survey results revealed how the firsttime visitors had perceived the historical texture of the promenade based on Rapoport’s method of using environmental *** results were interpreted by jointly evaluating qualitative and survey ***,although some aspects need improvement,the promenade solidifies the perception of the historical ***,when the public space is integrated with the historical environment and public life,it offers multidimensional contributions that cannot be ***,examining the promenade from perceptual aspects and offering a design approach to promote integration with the historical environment may help to establish a precedent case for future initiatives.

Accurate and reliable evaluation of muscle strength in para-athletes is essential for monitoring the effectiveness of strength training and/or rehabilitation programmes,and sport *** aim is to synthesise evidence related to assessing muscle strength in *** databases were searched from January 1990 to July 2021 for observational studies focusing on strength *** screening,data extraction,and quality assessment were performed in duplicate.A total of 1764 potential studies were *** met the inclusion criteria and were included in the *** mean age of participants was 30.7 years(standard deviation[SD]:2.4).The majority were men(88%)participating in wheelchair sports,including basketball,rugby,and tennis(23/30:76%).Overall quality varied,with more than half of the studies failing to identify strategies for dealing with confounding *** manual muscle testing being a standard component of para-sport classification systems,evidence examining strength characteristics in para-athletes is derived primarily from isometric and isokinetic *** studies that included comparative strength data,findings were *** studies found strength values were similar to or lower than able-bodied athletic ***,an important observation was that others reported higher shoulder strength in para-athletes taking part in wheelchair sports than both able-bodied and disabled *** need to develop accessible,standardised strength testing methods that account for training influence and establish normative strength values in *** is also a need for additional studies that include female para-athletes and para-athletes with greater functional impairments.
