An evolvable self-organizing neuro-fuzzy multilayered classifier with group method data handling and grammar-based bio-inspired supervisors for fault diagnosis of hydraulic systems

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to apply a hybrid neuro-fuzzy paradigm called self-organizing neuro-fuzzy multilayered classifier(SONeFMUC)to classify the operating faults of a hydraulic *** main motivation behind the use of SONeFMUC is to attest the capabilities of neuro-fuzzy classifier for handling the difficulties associated with fault diagnosis of hydraulic ***/methodology/approach–In the proposed methodology,first,the neuro-fuzzy nodes at each layer of the SONeFMUC are trained separately using two well-known bio-inspired algorithms,i.e.a semi deterministic method with random walks called co-variance matrix adaptation evolutionary strategy(CMA-ES)and a swarm-based explorer with adaptive fuzzified parameters(SBEAFP).Thereafter,a revised version of the group method data handling(GMDH)policy that uses the Darwinian concepts such as truncation selection and elitism is engaged to connect the nodes of different layers in an effective ***–Based on comparative numerical experiments,the authors conclude that integration of neuro-fuzzy method and bio-inspired supervisor results in a really powerful classification tool beneficial for uncertain *** is proved that the method outperforms some well-known classifiers such as support vector machine(SVM)and particle swarm optimization-based SVM(PSOSVM).Besides,it is indicated that an efficient bio-inspired method can effectively adjust the constructive parameters of the multi-layered neuro-fuzzy *** the case,it is observed that designing a fuzzy controller for PSO predisposes it to effectively balance the exploration/exploitation capabilities,and consequently optimize the structure of ***/value–The originality of the paper can be considered from both numerical and practical points of *** signals obtained through the data acquisition possess six different features in order for the hydraulic system to undergo four types of faults,*** fault,p

Effect of different sol-gel synthesis processes on microstructural and morphological characteristics of hydroxyapatite-bioactive glass composite nanopowders

The aim of this work was to study the influence of the different synthesis processes on microstructural and morphological characteristics and distribution of hydroxyapatite-bioactive glass(HAp-BG)composite nanopowders obtained by sol-gel ***-BG composite nanopowders with 20 wt%bioactive glass were prepared using a sol-gel method via four routes:(I)mixing the prepared HAp solution with BG solution before aging time;(II)mixing the prepared BG solution with the prepared HAp gel after gelation;(III)mixing the calcined BG nanopowders with the prepared HAp solution;and(IV)mixing the two prepared calcined nanopowders by mechanochemical *** prepared nanopowders were evaluated and studied by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer(EDS),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),transmission electron diffraction(TEM)and Brunauer-Emmet-Teller(BET)method to investigate the phase structure,microstructure and morphology,functional groups,and the size and distribution of *** indicated that morphology,crystallinity,crystallite size and specific surface area(SSA)of the powders are highly correspondent to the process and type of synthesis *** findings suggest that the modified sol-gel derived HAp-BG composite nanopowders are expected to efficiently provide a possibility to produce a good candidate to use for fabrication of a bulk nanostructured HAp-BG composite for bone tissue engineering.

Experimental study of the velocity of density currents in convergent and divergent channels

The head velocity of the density current in the convergent and divergent channel is a key parameter for evaluating the extent to which suspended material travels,and for determining the type and distribution of sediment in the water *** study experimentally evaluated the effects of the reach degree of convergence and divergence on the head velocity of the density *** were conducted in the flume with 6.0 m long,0.72 m width and 0.6 m *** head velocity was measured at three convergent degrees(-8°;-12°;-26°),at three divergent degrees(8°;12°;26°) and two slopes(0.009,0.016) for various *** measured head velocity of the density current is compared with the head velocity of the density current in the constant cross section channel. Based on non-dimensional and statistical analysis,relations as linear multiple regression offered for prediction head velocity of the density current in the convergent,divergent and constant cross section *** the results of this research show that for the same slope and discharge,the head velocity of the density current in the convergent and divergent channel are greater and less than the head velocity of the constant cross section, respectively.

Effect of metal oxide arrester on the chaotic oscillations in the voltage transformer with nonlinear core loss model using chaos theory

In this paper, controlling chaos when chaotic ferroresonant oscillations occur in a voltage transformer with nonlin- ear core loss model is performed. The effect of a parallel metal oxide surge arrester on the ferroresonance oscillations of voltage transformers is studied. The metal oxide arrester （MOA） is found to be effective in reducing ferroresonance chaotic oscillations. Also the multiple scales method is used to analyze the chaotic behavior and different types of fixed points in ferroresonance of voltage transformers considering core loss. This phenomenon has nonlinear chaotic dynamics and includes sub-harmonic, quasi-periodic, and also chaotic oscillations. In this paper, the chaotic behavior and various ferroresonant oscillation modes of the voltage transformer is studied. This phenomenon consists of different types of bifur- cations such as period doubling bifurcation （PDB）, saddle node bifurcation （SNB）, Hopf bifurcation （HB）, and chaos. The dynamic analysis of ferroresonant circuit is based on bifurcation theory. The bifurcation and phase plane diagrams are il- lustrated using a continuous method and linear and nonlinear models of core loss. To analyze ferroresonance phenomenon, the Lyapunov exponents are calculated via the multiple scales method to obtain Feigenbaum numbers. The bifurcation diagrams illustrate the variation of the control parameter. Therefore, the chaos is created and increased in the system.

Microcapillary cell extrusion deposition with picolitre dispensing resolution

Extrusion-based cell deposition has become a prominent technique for expanding bioprinting ***,the associated print resolution in the order of nanolitre or above has been a limiting *** demand for improving print resolution towards the scale of a single cell has driven the development of precision nozzle extrusion,although the benefits gained remain ***,aided by in situ imaging,we investigated the dynamics of cell organisation through an extrusion-based microcapillary tip with picolitre precision through in-air or immersion *** microcapillary extrusion setup,termed‘Picodis’,was demonstrated by generating droplets of colouring inks immersed in an immiscible ***,using 3T3 fibroblast cells as an experimental model,we demonstrated the deposition of cell suspension,and pre-aggregated cell ***,the dynamic organisation of cells within the microcapillary tip was described,along with cell ejection and deposition upon exiting the tip *** vision-assisted approach revealed that when dispersed in a culture medium,the movements of cells were distinctive based on the flow profiles and were purely driven by laminar fluid flow within a narrow *** primary process limitations were cell sedimentation,aggregation and compaction,along with trapped air *** use of picolitre-level resolution microcapillary extrusion,although it provides some level of control for a small number of cells,does not necessarily offer a reliable method when a specified number of cells are *** study provides insights into the process limitations of high-resolution cell ink extrusion,which may be useful for optimising biofabrication processes of cell-laden constructs for biomedical research.

Research Background: The high prevalence of diabetes in Sudan, estimated at 16%, highlights the importance of effective health education in diabetes management. Diabetes self-management education has been identified as a crucial tool in enhancing the knowledge, attitudes, and abilities necessary for self-management among individuals with diabetes. Aim: To assess the impact of diabetes self-management education on medication adherence and glycemic control in Sudanese adults with type 2 diabetes before and 3 months after the DSME intervention. Method: The study was conducted in Sudan between September 2022 and March 2023, it was an interventional, one-group, pre- and post-test study that aimed to assess the impact of diabetes self-management education (DSME) on medication adherence and diabetes control in Sudanese adults with type 2 diabetes. The research was conducted in primary health care centers in six cities in Sudan and involved 244 participants. The data entry and statistical analysis were conducted using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 27.0. A paired t test was used for analysis. Results: The study included 244 participants, 67% of whom were males. The age mean ± SD was 48.6 ± 9.3 years, and 85.3% of participants were married. Age at onset of diabetes mean ± SD was 40.60 ± 7.81 years;44.6% had diabetes for less than 5 years;and 84.1% had a positive family history of diabetes mellitus. The levels of poor, low, and partial adherence to medication decreased by 8.2%, 4%, and 20.6%, respectively, after the intervention. The levels of good and high medication regime adherence increased by 13% and 19.8%, respectively;BMI decreased by 1.1 ± 0.73 kg/m2 (p = 0.005). The fasting blood sugar decreased by 69 ± 32.9 mg/dl (p = 0.049), and the glycated hemoglobin decreased by 1.21 ± 0.28% (p = 0.001). Conclusions: The findings of this study reinforce the importance of patient education in improving glycemic control and enhancing self-management

REDUCTION OF STILLING BASIN LENGTH WITH TALL END SILL

Experiments were conducted to characterize forced hydraulic jumps in stilling basins for enforced cases due to tail water level or dam site arrangement and construction. The case with a single tall sill was simulated in a horizontal flume downstream of a sluice gate. Results of experiments are compared with the classical hydraulic jump, and significant effect of tall sill on dissipation of energy in shorter distance was confirmed. Furthermore, the generated jumps were classified based on the ratio of sill height to basin length, and a simple design criterion was proposed to estimate the basin length for a desired jump and particular inflow.

Series transformer based diode-bridge-type solid state fault current limiter

We propose a novel series transformer based diode-bridge-type solid state fault current limiter （SSFCL）. To control the fault current, a series RLC branch is connected to the secondary side of an isolation series transformer. Based on this RLC branch, two current limiting modes are created. In the first mode, R and C are bypassed via a paralleled power electronic switch （insulated-gate bipolar transistor, IGBT） and L remains connected to the secondary side of the transformer as a DC reactor. In the second mode, the series reactor impedance is not enough to limit the fault current. In this case, the fault current can be con- trolled by selecting a proper on-off duration of the parallel IGBT, across the series damping resistor （R） and capacitor, which inserts high impedance into the line to limit the fault current. Then, by controlling the magnitude of the DC reactor current, the fault current is reduced and the voltage of the point of common coupling （PCC） is kept at an acceptable level. In addition, in the new SSFCL, the series RC branch, connected in parallel with the IGBT, serves as a snubber circuit for decreasing the transient recovery voltage （TRV） of the IGBT during on-off states. Therefore, the power quality indices can be improved. The measure- ment results of a built prototype are presented to support the simulation and theoretical studies. The proposed SSFCL can limit the fault current without any delay and successfully smooth the fault current waveform.
