Predictive active control of building structures using LQR and artificial intelligence

This study presents a neural network-based model for predicting linear quadratic regulator(LQR)weighting matrices for achieving a target response *** on the expected weighting matrices,the LQR algorithm is used to determine the various responses of the *** responses are determined by numerically analyzing the governing equation of motion using the state-space *** training a neural network,four input parameters are considered:the time history of the ground motion,the percentage reduction in lateral displacement,lateral velocity,and lateral acceleration,Output parameters are LQR weighting *** study the effectiveness of an LQR-based neural network(LQRNN),the actual percentage reduction in the responses obtained from using LQRNN is compared with the target percentage ***,to investigate the efficacy of an active control system using LQRNN,the controlled responses of a system are compared to the corresponding uncontrolled *** trained neural network effectively predicts weighting parameters that can provide a percentage reduction in displacement,velocity,and acceleration close to the target percentage *** on the simulation study,it can be concluded that significant response reductions are observed in the active-controlled system using ***,the LQRNN algorithm can replace conventional LQR control with the use of an active control system.

Fault lineaments are the main input data in earthquake engineering and seismology *** study presents a digitally-based active fault map of the Kerman region in central-east Iran which experienced several devastating earthquakes on poorly exposed and/or not identified active *** Landsat 8 data,we have carried out the image-based procedures of fault mapping,which include applying the contrast stretching technique,the principal component analysis,the color composite technique,the spectral rationing,and creating the false-color composite ***,we have cross-checked the resulting map with the geological maps provided by the Geological Survey of Iran to decrease the associated *** resulting map includes 123 fault segments,still,a part of which has been expressed in the previously compiled active-fault maps of ***,the new one is mapping the poorly exposed active faults,so-called secondary faults,which are able to produce strong *** faults are primarily associated with poorly defined areas that accommodate low levels of seismicity;however,sporadic strong events are likely to *** has also been investigated that these kinds of faults are seismogenic and are able to produce destructive *** total,the outcome of this study can also be jointed with seismic studies for investigating parts of the earthquake activity in central-east Iran,in particular for the fault-based approaches in impending earthquake-resistant buildings.

In this study,the methodology and results of ambient vibration-based investigations of the historical Tash Mosque in Kosovo and a 3-story historical building in Bulgaria are *** investi gations include full-scale in situ testing of both structures due to ambient vibrations induced by micro-seismic,wind,traffic,and other human *** this aim,Ranger seismometers and Kinemetric products were *** were performed in both horizontal directions in several points along the structures'height utilizing a high-speed data acquisition *** recorded data have been analyzed and processed by the software developed at IZIIS,and then the processed data were used as input for modal *** basic assumption is that the excitation can be considered as a stationary random process to have a relatively flat *** paper clearly describes the procedure used for investigations and presents the dynamic properties of the whole *** inv estigated structures are both historical buildings and defined as architectural heritage and the outcome of this study including the natural vibration frequencies and mode shapes)can be very benefi-cial for the verification stage of the analytical/numerical models for future retro-fiting/rehabilitation schemes.
