Non-albicans candidemia in cancer patients as an increasing health problem:A comprehensive review and meta-analysis

Objective:To evaluate the prevalence of Candida species in cancer patients with candidemia around the world,and to identify related risk factors and their antifungal resistance,with an emphasis on non-albicans Candida species(NACs).Methods:The published papers related to the subject were systematically searched in databases of MEDLiNE(including PubMed),Web of Science,Scopus,Science Direct,and Google Scholar between the 1st January 2000 and 21st April ***:Among the 4546 records,69 studies met the inclusion *** pooled prevalence of NACs in cancer patients with candidemia was 62%(95%Ci 58%-67%;i2=94.85%,P=0.00).Based on type of cancer,the pooled prevalence of NACs in hematologic and solid cancer patients were 68%(95%Ci 65%-70%)and 52%(95%Ci 49%-54%),*** NACs,Candida(C.)parapsilosis was the most frequently isolated organism followed by *** and *** addition,the therapeutic usage of antibiotics was found as the most common risk factor,accounting for 85%(95%Ci 81%-89%)and central venous catheter accounting for 69%(95%Ci 62%-77%).Conclusions:The incidence of Candida bloodstream infections among cancer patients is a growing concern,especially when the etiologic agents of candidemia tend to shift towards NACs.

in the present article, we study the effect of inherent anisotropy, i.e., initial bedding angle of particles and associated voids on macroscopic mechanical behavior of granular materials, by numerical simulation of several biaxial compression tests using the discrete element method （DEM）. Particle shape is considered to be irregular convex-polygonal. The effect of inherent anisotropy is investigated by following the evolution of mobilized shear strength and volume change during loading. As experimental tests have already shown, numerical simulations also indicate that initial anisotropic condition has a great influence on the strength and deformational behavior of granular assemblies. Comparison of simulations with tests using oval particles, shows that angularity influences both the mobilized shear strength and the volume change regime, which originates from the interlocking resistance between particles.

Objective:Pneumocystis pneumonia(PcP)is a life-threatening infection caused by the opportunistic fungi Pneumocystis *** emergence of the COViD-19 pandemic forced the focus of attention of health policymakers on these two infections due to their clinical and paraclinical similarities,which cause diagnostic *** study was undertaken to evaluate and estimate the global prevalence and main leading risk factors of coronavirus-associated pneumocystosis(CAP).Methods:We searched related databases between December 2019 and May 2022 for studies reporting ***-analysis was performed using StatsDirect software(version 2.7.9)according to the DerSimonian and Laird method applying the random-effects *** evaluated heterogeneity using theχ2-based Q statistic(significant for Pi2 statistic(>75%indicative of“notable”heterogeneity).Moreover,an odds ratio(OR)analysis was performed for eligible ***:Our meta-analysis included eight studies with 923 patients hospitalized with COViD-19;among them,92 were PcP *** overall pooled prevalence of CAP was estimated at 11.5%.The mortality among CAP patients was lower than that of non-PcP patients(OR 1.93;95%Ci 0.86-4.31).Long-term corticosteroid therapy(OR 28.22;95%Ci 0.54-1480.84)was the most predisposing factor for PcP among COViD-19 patients,followed by pulmonary diseases(OR 1.46;95%Ci 0.43-4.98),kidney diseases(OR 1.26;95%Ci 0.21-7.49),and acute respiratory destruction syndrome(OR 1.22;95%Ci 0.05-29.28).Conclusions:The prevalence of PcP among the COViD-19 population is almost similar to the pre-COViD ***,PcP-related mortality was decreased by the emergence of the COViD-19 *** with COViD-19 are more susceptible to PcP than *** respiratory distress syndrome,kidney diseases,pulmonary diseases,and long-term corticosteroid therapy increased the risk of PcP;however,transplantation and malignancy decreased the risk for PcP among COViD-19 *** retrospective,cas

The worldwide increase in commercial fisheries and its impact on ecosystems as well as inefficient fishery management have led to overfishing and frequent breakdown of traditional fish stocks. in this context, an analysis of Khuzestan inshore fisheries data covering the years 2002-2011, was conducted in reliance on testing for occurrence of the fishing down marine food webs （FDMFW） phenomenon in the North of Persian Gulf Large Marine Ecosystem （LME）. in this study, the mean trophic level （mTL） and the fishing-in-balance （FiB）-index of Khuzestan landings during this period of time were estimated using the trophic level of 47 fishery resources. increase in total landings （i1） was observed, which explained the high fishing yield in major fishery resources （especially demersal）. Moreover, the moderates decreasing trend in mTL per decade, and the increasing trend in FiB-index were observed. The status of fishery resources in Khuzestan inshore waters （under exploited but not overexploited）, the rise in Y, FiB and slightly drop in mTL can be considered as indirect indicators of the fishing impacts on the trophic structure of marine communities. Based on this result, probability occurrence of FDMFW process in Khuzestan inshore waters is low to some extent. However, we suggest that the goal of management programs in Khuzestan inshore waters should prevent the continuance of this trend in the long-term using an ecosystem-based approach.

One of the most important issues related to landscape ecology and ecosystem services is finding the pattern of habitat patches that offers the highest pollination in agricultural *** this regard,two processes of habitat loss and fragmentation strongly affect the relationship between pollination and the pattern of habitat *** the present study,we aimed to examine the effects of habitat loss and fragmentation on pollination *** this purpose,first,we generated different simulated agricultural landscapes,including two habitats of forest and ***,according to the Lonsdorf model,we estimated the potential of the simulated landscapes in providing pollination in different ***,using statistical models,we estimated the effects of habitat loss and fragmentation on pollination at the landscape and farm *** results showed that the effects of habitat loss and fragmentation on pollination were completely different at the landscape and farm *** the landscape level,fragmentation negatively affected pollination,but at the farm level,the maximum pollination rate was observed in the landscapes with a high degree of *** the habitat loss effects,our results showed that pollination decreased linearly at the landscape level as habitat amount decreased,but at the farm level,it decreased *** present study considered the level of analysis(i.e.,landscape and farm levels)as a critical factor affecting pollination changes caused by *** showed that using the Lonsdorf model could lead to confusing results for the landscape ecologists and alert farmers who want to reduce the adverse effects of fragmentation on their products by creating new forest ***,agriculturalists and landscape ecologists should consider that the pollination rate at the landscape and farm levels is completely different according to the model and provide contradictory results about the process of habita

Enhancing the spontaneous imbibition rate of water in oil-wet dolomite rocks through boosting a wettability alteration process using carbonated smart brines

Most fractured carbonate oil reservoirs have oil-wet ***,the process of imbibing water from the fractures into the matrix is usually poor or basically does not exist due to negative capillary *** achieve appropriate ultimate oil recovery in these reservoirs,a water-based enhanced oil recovery method must be capable of altering the wettability of matrix *** studies showed that carbonated water can alter wettability of carbonate oil-wet rocks toward less oil-wet or neutral wettability conditions,but the degree of modification is not high enough to allow water to imbibe spontaneously into the matrix blocks at an effective *** this study,we manipulated carbonated brine chemistry to enhance its wettability alteration features and hence to improve water imbibition rate and ultimate oil recovery upon spontaneous imbibition in dolomite ***,the contact angle and interfacial tension(iFT)of brine/crude oil systems were measured for several synthetic brine samples with different ***,two solutions with a significant difference in WAi(wettability alteration index)but approximately equal brine/oil iFT were chosen for spontaneous imbibition *** the next step,spontaneous imbibition experiments at ambient and high pressures were conducted to evaluate the ability of carbonated smart water in enhancing the spontaneous imbibition rate and ultimate oil recovery in dolomite *** results showed that an appropriate adjustment of the imbibition brine(i.e.,carbonated smart water)chemistry improves imbibition rate of carbonated water in oil-wet dolomite rocks as well as the ultimate oil recovery.

in this study, the dissimilar friction stir welding （FSW） butt joints between aluminum alloy 5754-H114 and commerciallypure copper were investigated. The thickness of welded plates was 4 mm and the aluminum plate was placed on theadvancing side. in order to obtain a suitable flow and a better material mixing, a 1-mm offset was considered for thealuminum plate, toward the butt centerline. For investigating the microstructure and mechanical properties of FSWedjoints, optical microscopy and mechanical tests （i.e., uniaxial tensile test and microhardness） were used, ***, the analysis of intermetallic compounds and fracture surface was examined by scanning electron microscopyand X-ray diffraction. The effect of heat generation on the mechanical properties and microstructure of the FSWed jointswas investigated. The results showed that there is an optimum amount of heat input. The intermetallic compounds formedin FSWed joints were A14Cu9 and Ai2Cu. The best results were found in joints with 1000 rpm rotational speed and100 mm/min travel speed. The tensile strength was found as 219 MPa, which reached 84% of the aluminum base ***, maximum value of the microhardness of the stir zone （SZ） was attained as about 120 HV, which was greatlydepended on the grain size, intermetallic compounds and copper pieces in SZ.

A fibrous filter is one of the most common systems used to separate suspended particles from air. Two important factors （i,e,, the pressure drop and capture efficiency） are usually used to evaluate the performance of this type of filter, This study considers three two-dimensional arrangements of fibers （parallel, staggered, and random） to geometrically model fibrous media, The lattice Boltzmann method is employed to numerically simulate fluid flow through the filter, The Lagrangian form of the equation of motion of a particle is numerically solved to track the path of each particle in the flow field, where a one-way interaction between the fluid and particles is considered. The effects of pertinent parameters such as the fiber arrangement, solid volume fraction, particle-to-fiber diameter ratio, particle-to-fluid density ratio, Reynolds number, Stokes number, and size of the fibrous medium on the pressure drop and capture efficiency are studied. The obtained results are compared with existing empirical and theoretical findings and discussed.
