Dietary effects of A zolla pinnata combined with exogenous digestive enzyme(Digestin^(Tm)) on growth and nutrients utilization of freshwater prawn, macrobrachium rosenbergii(de man 1879)

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of either individual or combined wheat bran(WB) replacement with Azolla pinnata supplemented with Digestin^(Tm) in the diet of freshwater prawn, macrobrachium rosenbergii Postlarvae(PL) on growth performance, nutrient utilization, chemical body composition and survival(%). Experimental diets were a wheat bran-soybean based diet with no Azolla and Digestin^(Tm)(control, T_1), and diets containing 17% Azolla supplemented with Digestin^(Tm) 0%(T_2), 1%(T_3), 2%(T_4) and 3%(T 5). Each experimental diet was allocated into three tanks(6 m^3/tank) fed for 12 wks. Each tank was subdivided into three equal pens by nets(2 m^3) and stoked with 84 PL/m^2. The experimental diets were readily consumed by prawns PLs where both high growth and good feed efficiency were achieved for all diets. The results showed that the diets containing A. pinnata supplemented with Digestin? at the level up to 3% have the higher growth and better nutrient utilization than the control diet. No differences were observed for moisture and protein content among the experimental diets. However, the highest protein content was observed on prawns fed on diets T_1 and T 5 respectively, while the lowest value was recorded for T_4 diet. The results also show that prawn PLs fed the diets contain A. pinnata and supplemented with Digestin^(Tm) recorded the highest values of body lipid content compared to the control diet. Feed efficiency and economic conversion rate(ECR) values show that economic performance and the cost-effectiveness of the A. pinnata supplemented with up to 3% Digestin^(Tm) recorded the highest net return, and therefore it is recommended for prawn, m. rosenbergii PL's. These results are clearly indicating that A. pinnata have a good potential for use in prawn diets at reasonable levels than other conventional diets.

Pregnancy is a complex physiological process involving several interconnected systems. many researchers were concerned that the formation of a fetus with different genetic components may contradict the normal state of immunity, which attempts to reject and fight foreign bodies. This piqued the interest of biologists and immunologists, who set out to discover the immune system’s composition and mode of response in the uterus. According to several studies, natural killer (NK) cells are present in a significant percentage that differs from what is seen in peripheral blood. As a result, several scientific studies have been conducted on uterine NK cells, investigating their types, characteristics, receptors, secretions, and interactions with the surrounding environment. Research has also indicated the capacity of uterine NK cells to strike a balance between eradicating uterine infections and effectively contributing to different phases of pregnancy. Various studies have shown that NK cell activity is intimately related to the success or failure of pregnancy. In this review, we describe the uterine NK cell subtypes;decidual (dNK) cells and endometrial NK cells (eNK) cells and their important role during different phases of pregnancy.

Improved reversed phase liquid chromatographic method with pulsed electrochemical detection for tobramycin in bulk and pharmaceutical formulation

Tobramycin is one of the aminoglycoside antibiotics that lack a UV absorbing chromophore. However, the application of pulsed electrochemical detection （PED） has been used successfully for the analysis of this and similar antibiotics. This work describes an improved liquid chromatographic （LC） method combined with PED, which is able to separate much more impurities than before. Using a Discovery C-18 RP column （250 mm × 4.6 mm i.d., 5 μm）, isocratic elution was carried out with a mobile phase, containing sodium sulfate （35 g/L）, sodium octanesulphonic acid （1 g/L）, tetrahydrofuran （14mL/L） and 0.2 m phosphate buffer pH 3.0 （50 mL/L）. Using these experimental conditions, the limit of quantification （LOQ, S/N= 10） was 5 ng. The linearity was examined in the range LOQ-60 μg/mL and the coefficient of determination was 0.998. The method also proved to be repeatable and the recovery was close to 100%. The influence of the different chromatographic parameters on the separation was investigated by means of an experimental design. The proposed method is useful in quality control of tobramycin drug substances and drug products.

Predictors of long-term survival after pancreaticoduodenectomy for peri-ampullary adenocarcinoma: A retrospective study of 5-year survivors

Background: Pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD) is the standard curative treatment for periampullary tumors. The aim of this study is to report the incidence and predictors of long-term survival( ≥ 5 years) after PD. methods: This study included patients who underwent PD for pathologically proven periampullary adenocarcinomas. Patients were divided into 2 groups: group(I) patients who survived less than 5 years and group(II) patients who survived ≥ 5 years. Results: There were 47(20.6%) long-term survivors( ≥ 5 years) among 228 patients underwent PD for periampullary adenocarcinoma. Patients with ampullary adenocarcinoma represented 31(66.0%) of the long-term survivors. Primary analysis showed that favourable factors for long-term survival include age m CEA mL, serum CA 19-9 mL, non-cirrhotic liver, tumor size m, site of primary tumor, postoperative pancreatic fistula, R0 resection, postoperative chemotherapy, and no recurrence. multivariate analysis demonstrated that CA 19-9 mL [OR(95% CI) = 1.712(1.24 8–2.34 8), P = 0.001], smaller tumor size [OR(95% CI) = 1.335(1.032–1.726), P = 0.028] and R0 resection [OR(95% CI) = 3.098(2.095–4.582), P mpullary adenocarcinoma, for which the median survival was 54 months and 5-year survival rate was 39.0%, and the poorest was pancreatic head adenocarcinoma, for which the median survival was 27 months and 5-year survival rate was 7%. Conclusions: The majority of long-term survivors after PD for periampullary adenocarcinoma are patients with ampullary tumor. CA 19-9 mL, smaller tumor size, and R0 resection were found to be independent factors for long-term survival ≥ 5 years.

Stability-indicating HPLC-DAD methods for determination of two binary mixtures:Rabeprazole sodium-mosapride citrate and rabeprazole sodium-itopride hydrochloride

Two selective stability-indicating HPLC methods are described for determination of rabeprazole sodium （RZ）-mosapride citrate （mR） and RZ-itopride hydrochloride （IO） mixturcs in the presence of their ICH-stress formed degradation products. Separations were achieved on X-Bridge CI 8 column using two mobile phases： the first for RZ-mR mixture consisted of acetonitrile： 0.（125 m KH,PO4 solution： TEA （30：69：1 v/v; pH 7.0）; the second for RZ-IO mixture was at ratio of 25：74：1 Iv/v： pH 9.25J. The detection wavelength was 283 nm. The two methods were validated and wdidation acceptance criteria were met in all cases. Peak purity testing using contrast angle theory, relative absorbance and log A versus the wavelengths plots were presented. The % recoveries of the intact drugs were between 99.1% and 102.2% with RSD% values less than 1.6%. Application of the proposed HPLC methods indicated that the methods could be adopted to follow the stability of their formulations.

Tailored pancreatic reconstruction after pancreaticoduodenectomy: a single-center experience of 892 cases

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic reconstruction following pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD) is still debatable even for pancreatic surgeons. Ideally, pancreatic reconstruction after PD should reduce the risk of postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF) and its severity if developed with preservation of both exocrine and endocrine pancreatic functions. It must be tailored to control the morbidity linked to the type of *** study was to show the best type of pancreatic reconstruction according to the characters of pancreatic stump. mETHODS: We studied all patients who underwent PD in our center from January 1993 to December 2015. Patients were categorized into three groups depending on the presence of risk factors of postoperative complications: low-risk group(absent risk factor), moderate-risk group(presence of one risk factor) and high-risk group(presence of two or more risk factors). RESULTS: A total of 892 patients underwent PD for resection of periampullary tumor. BmI >25 kg/m~2, cirrhotic liver, soft pancreas, pancreatic duct diameter mm, and pancreatic duct location from posterior edge mm are risk variables for development of postoperative complications. POPF developed in 128(14.3%) patients. Delayed gastric emptying occurred in 164(18.4%) patients, biliary leakage developed in 65(7.3%) and pancreatitis presented in 20(2.2%). POPF in low-, moderate-and high-risk groups were 26(8.3%), 65(15.7%) and 37(22.7%) patients, respectively. Postoperative morbidity and mortality were significantly lower with pancreaticogastrostomy(PG) in high-risk group, while pancreaticojejunostomy(PJ) decreases incidence of postoperative steatorrhea in all groups. CONCLUSIONS: Selection of proper pancreatic reconstruction according to the risk factors of patients may reduce POPF and postoperative complications and mortality. PG is superior to PJ as regards short-term outcomes in high-risk group but PJ provides better pancreatic function in all groups and therefore, PJ is superior in l

Bortezomib-Induced Bilateral Eye Swelling and Cutaneous Adverse Reaction in a Patient with Plasma Cell Leukemia—A Case Report

Bortezomib, a proteasome inhibitor, is an established therapy against plasma cell leukemia—a variant of plasma cell dyscrasias. Its most frequent side effects have been listed as peripheral neuropathy, neuropathic pain, thrombocytopenia, and gastrointestinal problems. Allergic skin reaction is a rarely documented side effect in patients receiving bortezomib-based chemotherapy. A combination therapy consisting of intravenous bortezomib, oral Revlimid tablets, and oral dexamethasone tablets has been prescribed for the patient after his recent diagnosis of plasma cell leukemia. While receiving his third treatment cycle, he developed an allergic reaction (skin rash) involving the neck, and wrists, and mild bilateral eye swelling. The infusion was stopped immediately and then ciprofloxacin ophthalmic solution and oral diphenhydramine 25 mg were prescribed to the patient with significant improvement in his clinical condition. He was temporarily taken off bortezomib. At a follow-up visit a week later, a significant improvement was noticed in his condition. Rash had reduced on neck and wrists, and eye swelling had reduced as well. As of the time of writing this case report, he has been temporarily taken off bortezomib, but other medications in the treatment regimen were continued as prescribed.
