Background： We examined the impact of adjuvant modalities on resected pancreatic and periampullary adenocarcinoma（PAC）.Methods： A total of 563 patients who were curatively resected for PAC were retrospectively analyzed between 2003 and 2013.Results： Of 563 patients, 472 received adjuvant chemotherapy（CT） alone, chemoradiotherapy（CRT） alone, and chemoradiotherapy plus chemotherapy（CRT-CT） were analyzed. Of the 472 patients, 231 were given CRT-CT, 26 were given CRT, and 215 were given CT. The median recurrence-free survival（RFS） and overall survival（OS） were 12 and 19 months, respectively. When CT and CRT-CT groups were compared, there was no significant difference with respect to both RFS and OS, and also there was no difference in RFS and OS among CRT-CT, CT and CRT groups. To further investigate the impact of radiation on subgroups, patients were stratified according to lymph node status and resection margins. In node-positive patients, both RFS and OS were significantly longer in CRT-CT than CT. In contrast, there was no significant differencebetween groups when patients with node-negative disease or patients with or without positive surgical margins were considered.Conclusions： Addition of radiation to CT has a survival benefit in patients with node-positive disease following pancreatic resection.

Diagnostic value of ABCD2 and ABCD3-Ⅰ risk scoring systems in determining one-month risk of stroke in patients with transient ischemic attack: An observational study

Objective:To compare the diagnostic value of the ABCD2 and ABCD3-栺scoring systems in predicting the development of a 30-day neurological event in adult patients with transient ischemic attack(TIA)presenting to the emergency department.Methods:The study was observational and prospective and was conducted in a single center.The diagnostic values of the ABCD2 and ABCD3-栺scores in predicting a neurological event within one month were compared in patients diagnosed with TIA in the emergency department.Results:A statistically significant difference was observed between groups with or without stroke within one month in terms of both the ABCD2 and ABCD3-栺scores(P=0.044 and P=0.029,respectively).There was no statistically significant difference between the patients with and without a recurrent TIA within one month in relation to the ABCD2 score(P=0.934),but a statistically significant difference was found in the ABCD3-栺scores of these groups(Pnclusions:Both the ABCD2 and ABCD3-栺scoring systems could predict ischemic stroke within 30 days of TIA,the ABCD3-栺score is more effective than the ABCD2 score in the prediction of TIA recurrence.

Computer modelling and analysis of the photodegradation effect in a-Si:H p–i–n solar cell

Using a previous model, which was developed to describe the light-induced creation of the defect density in the a-Si：H gap states, we present in this work a numerical modelling of the photodegradation effect in the a-Si：H p–i–n solar cell under continuous illumination. We first considered the simple case of a monochromatic light beam with a wavelength λ between 530–540 nm non uniformly absorbed, then the global standard solar spectrum（AM1.5） illumination is taken into account. The photodegradation is analysed on the basis of the resulting changes in the free carrier＇s densities, recombination rate, band structure, electrical potential and field, space charge, and current densities. Changes in the cell＇s external parameters： the open circuit voltage Voc, the short circuit current density Jsc, the fill factor FF and the maximum power density Pmaxare also presented.

Dry reforming of methane by CO2 using nickel ferrite as precursor of catalysts was investigated.nickel ferrite crystalline particles were prepared by coprecipitation of nitrates with naOH or ammonia followed by calcination,or by hydrothermal synthesis without calcination step.The textural and structural properties were determined by a number of analysis methods,including X-ray diffraction （XRD）,Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）,among which X-ray diffraction （XRD） was at room and variable temperatures.All synthesized oxides showed the presence of micro or nanoparticles of niFe2O4 inverse spinel,but Fe2O3 （hematite） was also present when ammonia was used for coprecipitation.The reducibility by hydrogen was studied by temperature-programmed reduction （TPR） and in situ XRD,which showed the influence of the preparation method.The surface area （BET）,particle size （Rietveld refinement）,as well as surface ni/Fe atomic ratio （XPS） and the behavior upon reduction varied according to the synthesis method.The catalytic reactivity was investigated using isopropanol decomposition to determine the acid/base properties.The catalytic performance of methane reforming with CO2 was measured with and without the pre-treatment of catalysts under H2 in 650-800 C range.The catalytic conversions of methane and CO2 were quite low but they increased when the catalysts were pre-reduced.A significant contribution of reverse water gas shift reaction accounted for the low values of H2 /CO ratio.no coking was observed as shown by the reoxidation step performed after the catalytic reactions.The possible formation of nickel-iron alloy observed during the study of reducibility by hydrogen was invoked to account for the catalytic behavior.

Reduction of the Additives Migration from Poly Vinyl Chloride Films by the Use of Permanent Plasticizers

This aim of this work is to study the partial replacement of the plasticizer ordinarily used di-octyl phtalate (DOP) by the permanent plasticizers ethylene-vinyl-acetate (EVA) and acrylonytrile-bu- tadiene-styrene (ABS) in order to reduce migration of additives initially contents in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) stabilized with expoxidized sunflower oil (ESO). Migration tests with agitation to 40°C in sunflower oil and ethanol at 15% were made. Migration phenomenon was studied on the basis of the PVC samples mass variations, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis. The results showed the effectiveness of the approach consisting in the partial substitution of DOP by plasticizers of polymeric nature. The following order concerning the migration of additives was found: DOP (40) > DOP:EVA > (30/10) DOP:ABS (30/10). Furthermore, all the measured values of overall migrations were lower than the maximum allowable overall migration: 10 mg-dm-2.

Path Integral Formulation for Ionic Broadening in Plasmas: Lyman-αwith Fine Structure and Dynamical Effects

Using the path integral formalism, the fine structure and dynamics effects are taken into account for the broadening of spectral lines in a plasma. A compact expression of the dipolar autocorrelation function for an emitter in the plasma is derived for Lyman alpha lines with fine structure. The expression of the dipolar autocorrelation function takes into account the dynamics effects, which are represented by the time microfield autocorrelation function.

nanoencapsulation of Antioxidant-Rich Fraction of Roasted Moringa oleiferaL. Leaf Extract: Physico-Chemical Properties and in VitroRelease Mechanisms

nanocapsules (nC) of antioxidant rich fraction of roasted Moringa leaves were prepared using emulsion coacervation technique with alginate (alg) and/or chitosan (CTS) as biopolymers. nC were characterized based on particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential, encapsulation efficiency (EE) and loading capacity (LC). Substituting CTS with alg in nC caused a reduction in particle size and PDI, and enhanced EE. Mean particle size dropped from 1209 nm in 1:3 to 413 nm in 3:1 alg/CTS-nC;PDI decreased from 0.9% to 0.2% and zeta potential from n>n>-n>n>5.4 to n>n>-n>n>28.1 mV. n>n>The n>n>n>n>n style="font-family:"">highest EE (87.6%) and LC (13%) were obtained with alg-CTS-nC (3:1). alg-nC were spherical while both CTS and alg-CTS-nC were ovoid. alg and alg-CTS-nC were oil/water emulsions while CTS-nC formed water/oil emulsions. 60% and 70% of bioactives in alg-CTS-nC (3:1) were released in simulated gastric and intestinal fluids respectively after 400 min. Release of antioxidants from nC is concentration-dependent (First order model) and involves simultaneously diffusion (Higuchi model), swelling (korsmeyer-Peppas model) and erosion (Hixson-Crowell model) mechanisms.

Comparison of High Field Electron Transport in GaAs,InAs and In_(0.3)Ga_(0.7)As

An ensemble Monte Carlosimulation is used to compare high field electron transport in bulk GaAs, InAs and In0.3Ga0.7As. In particular, velocity overshoot and electron transit times are examined. We find the steady state velocity of the electrons is the most important factor determining transit time over distances longer then 0.2 μm. Over shorter distances velocity overshoot effects in InAs and In0.3Ga0.7 As at high fields are comparable to those in GaAs. We estimate the minimum transit time across a 1 μm InAs sample to be about 4.2 ps. Similar calculations for In0.3Ga0.7As yield 6 ps (for GaAs yield 10 ps). Calculations are made using a nonparabolic effective mass energy band model, Monte Carlo simulation that includes all of the major scattering mechanisms. The band parameters used in the simulation are extracted from optimized pseudopotential band calculations to ensure excellent agreement with experimental information and ab initio band models.

Introduction:n> Pergularia tomentosan> is a saharan spontaneous plant belonging to Asclepiadacea family. It has several medicinal properties and uses in the human food as an auxiliary in cheese-making. The purpose of this study is the extraction of the coagulant enzymatic system (C.E.S) from the plant dried leaves and its use in the preparation of fresh cheese. Materials & Methodsn>: n>The determination of the coagulant activity was carried out on a skimmedn> milk powder by Berridge’s method. Cow’s milk used for coagulant strength determination and cheese-making. Proteolytic activityn>n>. n>The chemical n>determinations of raw milk were carried out according to AFNOR analysis methods. A descriptive sensory evaluation was performed to determine the organoleptic properties of the produced cheese. The proteolytic activity was determined by measuring the aspartyl-protease units. Results: The main results of the physico-chemical characterization show that its coagulant activity (R.U mL-1) was 97.19 ± 4.67, coagulant strength (SU) was 230.05 ± 0.37, proteolytic activity (μg·mL-1) was 0.33 ± 0.04 and coagulant activity/proteolytic activity ratio was 294.51.
