Present of wind power is sporadically and cannot be utilized as the only fundamental load of energy *** paper proposes a wind-solar hybrid energy storage system(HESS)to ensure a stable supply grid for a longer period.A multi-objective genetic algorithm(MOGA)and state of charge(SOC)region division for the batteries are introduced to solve the objective function and configuration of the system capacity,***/Simulink was used for simulation *** optimization results show that for a 0.5 MW wind power and 0.5 MW photovoltaic system,with a combination of a 300 Ah lithium battery,a 200 Ah lead-acid battery,and a water storage tank,the proposed strategy reduces the system construction cost by approximately 18,000 ***,the cycle count of the electrochemical energy storage systemincreases from4515 to 4660,while the depth of discharge decreases from 55.37%to 53.65%,achieving shallow charging and discharging,thereby extending battery life and reducing grid voltage fluctuations *** proposed strategy is a guide for stabilizing the grid connection of wind and solar power generation,capability allocation,and energy management of energy conservation systems.

Production of Hypoxia-induced Corneal Edema in Aged Eyes

Purpose:Corneal thickness assessment is a common clinical procedure applied in corneal and contact lens care. This study aims to investigate the effect of age on hypoxia-induced corneal ***:Eighteen male subjects were equally divided into the younger [(23.7 ± 0.8) years old] and older [(74.4 ± 2.5) years old] groups. Each subject wore a thick soft contact lens (uniform thickness of 0.3 mm) on the left cornea. With the contact lens in place, the baseline central corneal thickness was measured using a specially designed photo-pachometer. The lens was then patched behind the closed eyelids, producing an extremely hypoxic stress to the cornea. The change in central corneal thickness was monitored every 20 minutes with momentary disruptions to the hypoxic stress over the next 2 hours. The increase in thickness was taken as an index of corneal edema. The rate of change in corneal thickness, as derived from a non-linear mathematical model, was compared between ***:The corneal thickness of both age groups increased significantly with time (P<0.000 1). The mean corneal swelling constant for the older subjects was 16.5 × 10-3 (S.E.M. = 2.65 × 10-3) and the value for the younger subjects was 46.5 × 10-3 (S.E.M. = 3.25 × 10-3). The difference was statistically significant (P < 0.000 1).Conclusion:Aging cornea has a slower hypoxia-induced edema response compared with the younger group. Whether it is caused by a decreased corneal lactate production or an increased resistance to physical expansion deserves further investigation. Eye Science 2004;20:1-5.

Although many methods have been developed to explore the function of cells by clustering high-dimensional(HD)single-cell omics data,the inconspicuously differential expressions of biomarkers of proteins or genes across all cells disturb the cell cluster delineation and downstream ***,we introduce a hashing-based framework to improve the delineation of cell clusters,which is based on the hypothesis that one variable with no significant differences can be decomposed into more diversely latent variables to distinguish *** projecting the original data into a sparse HD space,fly and densefly hashing preprocessing retain the local structure of data,and improve the cluster delineation of existing clustering methods,such as ***,the analyses on mass cytometry dataset show that our hashing-based framework manages to unveil new hidden heterogeneities in cell *** proposed framework promotes the utilization of cell biomarkers and enriches the biological findings by introducing more latent variables.

Structures having nanoscale 3D geometries are valuable as multifunctional materials, where multi-continuous microphases can synergistically influence mechanical, optical, transport and other properties. Such very high interface surface to volume ratio structures occur in a variety of materials including natural materials such as butter fly wings and sea urchin exoskeletons and in synthetic self-assembled structures such as surfactant/water systems and block polymers. Quantitative morphological characterization of such complex geometric structures is quite challenging. Unit cell sizes range from 10-300 nm with corresponding feature sizes on the 2-50 nm scale. Since these nanoscale network structures are bicontinuous, when one constituent is removed, the structure is still self supporting. Removal of one component produces a nanoporous material that may be in-filled with another component, or the surfaces of the nanopores can be coated with ultra-thin layers by atomic layer deposition to offer multiftmctional capabilities. Due to the ability to individually tailor the properties of the network（s） and matrix, for example, to create strong dielectric or impedance contrast, such spatially periodic structures are excellent for the interference of waves （electromagnetic for photonic applications and acoustic for phononic applications） that can lead to bandgaps and hence the control of wave propagation in the material. This mini-review will focus on networks formed by bottom up self assembly of block polymers. In addition to structural issues, we emphasize the special physical properties related to bi- or tri-continuous networks.

With the technology development on detecting circulating tumor cells(CTCs) and cellfree DNAs(cf DNAs) in blood, serum, and plasma, non-invasive diagnosis of cancer becomes promising. A few studies reported good correlations between signals from tumor tissues and CTCs or cf DNAs, making it possible to detect cancers using CTCs and cf DNAs. However, the detection cannot tell which cancer types the person has. To meet these challenges, we developed an algorithm,e Tumor Type, to identify cancer types based on copy number variations(CNVs) of the cancer founding clone. e Tumor Type integrates cancer hallmark concepts and a few computational techniques such as stochastic gradient boosting, voting, centroid, and leading patterns. e Tumor Type has been trained and validated on a large dataset including 18 common cancer types and 5327 tumor samples. e Tumor Type produced high accuracies(0.86–0.96) and high recall rates(0.79–0.92) for predicting colon, brain, prostate, and kidney cancers. In addition, relatively high accuracies(0.78–0.92)and recall rates(0.58–0.95) have also been achieved for predicting ovarian, breast luminal, lung, endometrial, stomach, head and neck, leukemia, and skin cancers. These results suggest that e Tumor Type could be used for non-invasive diagnosis to determine cancer types based on CNVs of CTCs and cf DNAs.

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to extend the work of fusing sensors with a Bayesian method to incorporate the sensor’s reliability with regard to their operating *** results are then to be used with the expected decision formula,conditional entropy and mutual information for suboptimally selecting which types of sensors should be fused where there are operational ***/methodology/approach–The approach is an extension of previous work incorporating an environment *** expected decision formula then forms the basis for sensor ***–The author found that the performance of the sensors is correlated to the environment of operation,given that the likelihood of error will be higher in a difficult terrain than would otherwise be the ***,the author also shows the sensors for fusion will vary if the author knows specifically which terrain the sensors will be operating *** limitations/implications–The author notes that in order for this technique to be effective,a proper understanding of the limitations of the sensors,possible terrain types and targets have to be *** implications–The practical implication of this work is the ability to assess the performance of fused sensors according to the environment or terrain they might be operating under,thus providing a greater level of sensitivity than would otherwise be the ***/value–The author has extended previous ideas on sensor fusion from imprecise and uncertain sources using a Bayesian technique,as well as developed techniques regarding which sensors should be chosen for fusion given payload or other constraints.
