When commercializing the semi-solid metalworking processes, component producers looked to conventional die-casting to identify potential defects and control component quality. Several defects were expected including cold shuts, cold flows, flash, drags, warping, and gas entrapment, just to name a few. Efforts were taken to avoid these defects. A new defect type, contaminant veins, has surfaced unique to semi-solid metalworking. Although, semi-solid metalworking has proven to be successful, component producers have been reluctant to report defects for fear of giving this emerging processes a bad reputation. Nonetheless, this defect must be understood to avoid future problems.

Copper（Ⅱ） oxide in varying ratios was combined with either an alumina-based cement（Al300）, or CaO derived from limestone as support material in a mechanical pelletiser. This production method was used to investigate its influence on possible mechanical and chemical improvements for oxygen carriers in chemical looping processes. These materials were tested in a lab-scale fluidised bed with CO or CH;as a reducing gas at 950 °C. As expected, the oxygen carriers containing a greater ratio of support material exhibited an enhanced crushing strength. Oxygen carriers comprised of a 1:3 ratio of support material to active CuO exhibited increased crushing strength by a minimum of 280% compared to pure CuO *** oxygen carriers exhibited a high CO conversion yield and were fully reducible from CuO to Cu. For the initial redox cycle, Al300-supported oxygen carriers showed the highest fuel and oxygen carrier conversion. The general trend observed was a decline in conversion with an increasing number of redox *** the case of CaO-supported oxygen carriers, all but one of the oxygen carriers suffered *** agglomeration was more severe in carriers with higher ratios of CuO. Oxygen carrier Cu25Al75（75 wt% aluminate cement and 25 wt% CuO）, which did not suffer from agglomeration, showed the highest attrition with a loss of approximately 8% of its initial mass over 25 redox cycles. The reducibility of the oxygen carriers was limited with CH;in comparison to CO. CH;conversion were 15%-25% and 50% for Cu25Ca75（25 wt% CuO and 75 wt% CaO） and Cu25Al75, respectively. Cu25Ca75 demonstrated improved conversion, whereas Cu25Al75 exhibited a trending decrease in conversion with increasing redox cycles.

Efficient water quality monitoring and ensuring the safety of drinking water by government agencies in areas where the resource is constantly depleted due to anthropogenic or natural factors cannot be overemphasized. The above statement holds for West Texas, Midland, and Odessa Precisely. Two machine learning regression algorithms (Random Forest and XGBoost) were employed to develop models for the prediction of total dissolved solids (TDS) and sodium absorption ratio (SAR) for efficient water quality monitoring of two vital aquifers: edward-Trinity (plateau), and Ogallala aquifers. These two aquifers have contributed immensely to providing water for different uses ranging from domestic, agricultural, industrial, etc. The data was obtained from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB). The XGBoost and Random Forest models used in this study gave an accurate prediction of observed data (TDS and SAR) for both the edward-Trinity (plateau) and Ogallala aquifers with the R2 values consistently greater than 0.83. The Random Forest model gave a better prediction of TDS and SAR concentration with an average R, MAE, RMSE and MSE of 0.977, 0.015, 0.029 and 0.00, respectively. For the XGBoost, an average R, MAE, RMSE, and MSE of 0.953, 0.016, 0.037 and 0.00, respectively, were achieved. The overall performance of the models produced was impressive. From this study, we can clearly understand that Random Forest and XGBoost are appropriate for water quality prediction and monitoring in an area of high hydrocarbon activities like Midland and Odessa and West Texas at large.

β-Trichosanthin, a type 1 ribosome-inactivating protein （RIP） isolated from the root tuber of Trichosanthe kirilowii Maxim, is an isoform of trichosanthin. Here we report its crystallization in two crystal forms using the hanging-drop vapor-diffusion method. The form A and form B crystals belong to the orthorhombic space group P212121 and monoclinic space group P21, respectively. X-ray data have been collected to 1.6 and 1.2 A resolution for form A and form B crystals, respectively, using a synchrotron source.

This case report describes in detail an erosive distal diaphyseal pseudotumor that occurred 6 years after a complex endoprosthetic hinge total knee arthroplasty(TKA). A female patient had conversion of a knee fusion to an endoprosthetic hinge TKA at the age of 62. At her scheduled 6-year follow-up, she presented with mild distal thigh pain and radiographs showing a 6-7 cm erosive lytic diaphyseal lesion that looked very suspicious for a neoplastic process. An en bloc resection of the distal femur and femoral endoprosthesis was performed. Histologic review showed the mass to be a pseudotumor with the wear debris emanating from within the femoral canal due to distal stem loosening. We deduce that mechanized stem abrasion created microscopic titanium alloy particles that escaped via a small diaphyseal crack and stimulated an inflammatory response resulting in a periosteal erosive pseudotumor. The main lesson of this report is that, in the face of a joint replacement surgery of the knee, pseudotumor formation is a more likely diagnosis than a neoplastic process when encountering an expanding bony mass. Thus, a biopsy prior to en bloc resection, would be our recommended course of action any time a suspicious mass is encountered close to a TKA.
