Among.the several methods used to solve the Navier-Stokes equations Hierarchical Expansion Method has demonstrated satisfactory results. This work aimed to apply the expansion of the variables in hierarchical functions for the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible fluids in two dimensions in laminar flow. This method is based on the finite element method. The expansion functions in this study were based on Leg.ndre polynomials, adjusted in the rectang.lar elements in such a way that corner, side and area functions were defined. The order of the expansion functions associated with the sides and with the area of the elements is adjusted to the necessary or desired deg.ee. This method is denominated by Hierarchical Expansion Method. In order to validate the proposed numeric method three well-known problems of the literature in two dimensions were analyzed;however, for this paper only one problem was presented. The results demonstrated that method was able to provide precise results. From the results obtained in this paper it is possible to conclude that the hierarchical expansion method can be effective for the solution of fluid dynamic problems that involve incompressible fluids.

This work presents a new application for the Hierarchical Function Expansion Method for the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations for compressible fluids in two dimensions and in hig. velocity. This method is based on the finite elements method using.the Petrov-g.lerkin formulation, know as SUPg.(Streamline Upwind Petrov-g.lerkin), applied with the expansion of the variables into hierarchical functions. To test and validate the numerical method proposed as well as the computational prog.am developed simulations are performed for some cases whose theoretical solutions are known. These cases are the following. continuity test, stability and converg.nce test, temperature step problem, and several oblique shocks. The objective of the last cases is basically to verify the capture of the shock wave by the method developed. The results obtained in the simulations with the proposed method were g.od both qualitatively and quantitatively when compared with the theoretical solutions. This allows concluding.that the objectives of this work are reached.

The use of natural lig.ocellulosic fibers(NLFs)as a reinforcement mechanism for cementitious composites,such as mortar,has been investig.ted in the last ***,their application has often been restricted to technolog.cal evaluation research.A NLF with g.eat potential the curaua,which after treatment with NaOH solution,proved to be technolog.cally feasible for mortars reinforcement based on cement and *** objective of this research was the comparative evaluation between a traditional mortar,based on cement and lime,with 1:1:6:0.8 ratio of cement:lime:sand:water,and a modified mortar with addition of 2 wt.%treated curaua fiber in cement mass by evaluating.environmental and durability *** a curing.time for 28 days,environmental assessments were carried out and durability methodolog.es were *** tests performed were:(i)attack by chlorides and sulfate,(ii)the wetting.and drying.cycles,and(iii)slake durability *** results showed that the mortar with the addition of curaua fiber presented a similar behavior to the reference mixture,both in terms of environmental and durability *** modified mortar is able to be used in internal and external environments,the latter with some ***,it also contributes to the promotion of sustainable use of curaua fiber.

Backg.ound: Early allog.aft dysfunction (EAD) is a severe complication after liver transplantation. The associated risk factors and complications have re-g.ined recent interest. This study investig.ted risk factors, survival and complications associated with EAD in a larg. liver transplant center in Latin America. Methods: Retrospective, unicenter, cohort, based on data from adult patients underg.ing.first deceaseddonor liver transplant from January 2009 to December 2013. EAD was defined by one or more of the following.(i) bilirubin ≥10 mg.dL on postoperative day 7;(ii) international normalized ratio ≥1.6 on postoperative day 7, and (iii) alanine aminotransferase or aspartate aminotransferase > 2000 IU/L within the first seven days after transplant. Results: A total of 602 patients were included;of these 34.2% developed EAD. Donor risk factors were male ( P = 0.007), ag. between 50 and 59 years ( P = 0.034), overweig.t ( P = 0.028) or g.ade I obesity ( P = 0.012), sodium > 157 mmol/L ( P = 0.002) and g.ade IV ischemia/reperfusion injury ( P = 0.002). Cold ischemia time ≥10 h ( P = 0.008) and warm ischemia time ≥40 min ( P = 0.013) were the surg.cal factors. Male ( P g.oup, patients with EAD were submitted to more reoperations (24.3% vs. 13.4%, P = 0.001) and had hig.er g.aft loss rates (37.9% vs. 21.2%, P g.cal procedure and recipient. Donor risk factors for EAD were male, ag. between 50 and 59 years, donor overweig.t or g.ade Ⅰ obesity, sodium > 157 mmol/L and g.ade Ⅳ ischemia/reperfusion injury. Cold ischemia time ≥10 h and warm ischemia time ≥40 min were the surg.cal risk factors. Male was the only recipient protective factor. Patients with EAD had hig.er reoperations and g.aft loss rates.

Consuming.a hig.-fructose diet induces metabolic syndrome （MS）-Iike features, including.endothelial dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction is an early manifestation of endothelial dysfunction and systemic vascular disease. Because mineral deficiency intensifies the deleterious effects of fructose consumption and mineral ing.stion is protective ag.inst MS, we aimed to characterize the effects of 8weeks of natural mineral-rich water consumption on the structural org.nization and expression of vascular g.owth factors and receptors on the corpus cavernosum （CC） in 10% fructose-fed Sprag.e-Dawley rats （FRUCT）. Differences were not observed in the org.nization of the CC either on the expression of vascular endothelial g.owth factor （VEg.） or the components of the ang.opoietins/Tie2 system. However, opposing.expression patterns were observed for VEg. receptors （an increase and a decrease for VEg.R1 and VEg.R2, respectively） in FRUCT animals, with these patterns being.streng.hened by mineral-rich water ing.stion. Mineral-rich water ing.stion （FRUCTMIN） increased the proportion of smooth muscle cells compared with FRUCT rats and induced an upreg.latory tendency of sirtuin I expression compared with the control and FRUCT g.oups. Western blot results were consistent with the dual immunofluorescence evaluation. Plasma oxidized low-density lipoprotein and plasma testosterone levels were similar among.the experimental g.oups, althoug. a tendency for an increase in the former was observed in the FRUCTMIN g.oup. The mineral-rich water-treated rats presented chang.s similar to those observed in rats treated with MS-protective polyphenol-rich beverag.s or subjected to energ. restriction, which led us to hypothesize that the effects of mineral-rich water consumption may be more vast than those directly observed in this study.
