The present study aimed to evaluate the correlation between the oral health status and the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s disease. The Decayed, Missing, Filled (DMFT) index and the quality of life questionnaire for people with Parkinson’s disease (Parkinson’s Disease Questionnaire-39) were used as evaluation instruments. Sixty-two people with a clinical diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease between stages 1 and 3, age between 46 and 86 years, of both sexes, with an average time of disease evolution of 7 years, participated in the study. data were evaluated using the Pearson’s correlation test, and one-way ANOVA (p daily living.

AIM: To investigate the prognostic significance of insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3(IGFBP-3) in patients with ***: Prospective study that included two cohorts: outpatients with stable cirrhosis(n = 138) and patients hospitalized for acute decompensation(n = 189). Development of complications, mortality or liver transplantation was assessed by periodical phone calls and during outpatient visits. The cohort of stable cirrhosis also underwent clinical and laboratory evaluation yearly(2013 and 2014) in predefined study visits. In patients with stable cirrhosis, IGFBP-3 levels were measured at baseline(2012) and at second re-evaluation(2014). In hospitalized subjects, IGFBP-3 levels were measured in serum samples collected in the first and in the third day after admission and stored at-80 ℃. IGFBP-3 levels were measured by ***: IGFBP-3 levels were lower in hospitalized patients as compared to outpatients(0.94 mcg/mL vs 1.69 mcg/m L, P < 0.001) and increased after liver transplantation(3.81 mcg/m L vs 1.33 mcg/mL, P = 0.008). During the follow-up of the stable cohort, 17 patients died and 11 received liver transplantation. Bivariate analysis showed that death or transplant was associated with lower IGFBP-3 levels(1.44 mcg/mL vs 1.74 mcg/m L, P = 0.027). The Kaplan-Meier transplant-free survival probability was 88.6% in patients with IGFBP-3 ≥ 1.67 mcg/mL and 72.1% for those with IGFBP3 < 1.67 mcg/mL(P = 0.015). In the hospitalized cohort, 30-d mortality was 24.3% and was independently associated with creatinine, INR, SpO_2/FiO_2 ratio and IGFBP-3 levels in the logistic regression. The 90-d transplant-free survival probability was 80.4% in patients with IGFBP-3 ≥ 0.86 mcg/mL and 56.1% for those with IGFBP3 < 0.86 mcg/mL(P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Lower IGFBP-3 levels were associated with worse outcomes in patients with cirrhosis, and might represent a promising prognostic tool that can be incorporated in clinical practice.

This paper presents an automatic system for failure detection in hydro-power generators. The main idea of this system is to detect failure using current and voltage signals acquired without any type of internal interference in the generator operation. The detected failures could be mechanical or electrical origins, such as: problems in bearings, unwanted vibrations, partial discharges, misalignment, unbalancing, among others. It is possible because the generator acts as a transducer for mechanical problems, and they appear in current and voltage signals. This automatic system based on electric signature analysis has been installed in Itapebi Power Plant generators since 2012. Some results are presented in this paper.

Background: An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of feed restriction(FR) and sex on the quantitative and qualitative carcass traits of Morada Nova lambs. Thirty-five animals with an initial body weight of 14.5 ± 0.89 kg and age of 120 d were used in a completely randomized study with a 3 × 3 factorial scheme consisting of three sexes(11 entire males, 12 castrated males and 12 females) and three levels of feeding(ad libitum – AL and 30% and 60% FR).Results: Entire males presented greater hot and cold carcass weights(P 0.05) concentrations, and the concentrations of palmitic acid, palmitoleic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and conjugated linoleic acid were higher(P < 0.05) than those of animals with 60% FR. The meat of females had a higher ω6/ω3 ratio and lower h/H ratio, and females had greater levels of feeding. The meat of animals on the 60% FR diet had a greater ω6/ω3 ratio, lower h/H ratio and lower concentration of desirable fatty acids in addition to a greater atherogenicity index(AI) and thrombogenicity index(TI).Conclusion: Lambs of different sexes had carcasses with different quantitative traits without total influence on the chemical and physical meat characteristics. The lipid profile of the meat was less favorable to consumer health when the animals were female or submitted to 60% feed restriction.

Cathepsin B (CTS B) is a proteolytic enzyme that participates in several important biological processes. However, when it is altered can be involved in development of breast cancer, a disease with high incidence and mortality rate among women. Many studies have shown a correlation between high CTS B expression and breast tumor. Furthermore, it has been shown that the SNP rs1803250 (S53G) leads to structural and functional changes in protein that can make it pathogenic. The present study aimed to evaluate a possible association of SNP rs1803250 (S53G) with breast cancer. For this, real-time PCR was performed on a sample collected in the State of Pará, with 127 patients and 122 controls. The SNP frequency in this region was 0.12, according to a research project in progress that aims to identify Amerindians molecular alterations. This indicates that the SNP is found in region with a distribution close to worldwide frequency of 0.09. Our results showed that the SNP was in Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium in collected sample, but C variant allelic frequency was 0.08 in both patients and control groups, which is extremely similar to global average. Moreover, homozygotes CC was not found in the sample and SNP genotypes frequency in patients and control groups was not significantly different. In addition, statistical analysis showed that the SNP did not have to correlate with tumor subtypes nor with tumor staging. Therefore, according to the analyzed sample, the SNP rs1803250 has no association with breast cancer and it cannot be considered a molecular biomarker for breast cancer.

The measurement of aromaticity in biochars is generally conducted using solid state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy,which is expensive,time-consuming,and only accessible in a small number of researchintensive *** modelling could be a viable alternative to predict biochar aromaticity from other much easier accessible parameters(*** composition).In this research,Genetic Programming(GP),an advancedmachine learning method,is used to develop *** order to identify and evaluate the performance of prediction models,an experimental data set with 98 biochar samples collected from the literature was *** to the benefits of the intelligence iteration and learning of GP algorithm,a kind of underlying exponential relationship between the elemental compositions and the aromaticity of biochars is disclosed *** exponential relationship is clearer and simpler than the polynomial mapping relationships implicated by Maroto-Valer,Mazumdar,and Mazumdar-Wang *** this case,a novel exponential model is proposed for the prediction of biochar *** proposed exponential model appears better prediction accuracy and generalization ability than existing polynomial models during the statistical parameter evaluation.
