Optimizing Nitrogen Use Ef.iciency f.r No-Till Corn Production by Improving Root Growth and Capturing NO_(3)-N in Subsoil

Subsoil acidity restricts root growth and reduces crop yields in many parts of.the world. More than half.of.the f.rtilizer nitrogen(N) applied in crop production is currently lost to the environment. This study aimed to investigate the ef.ect of.gypsum application on the ef.iciency of.N f.rtilizer in no-till corn(Zea mays L.) production in southern Brazil. A f.eld experiment examined the ef.ects of.surf.ce-applied gypsum(0, 5, 10, and 15 Mg ha^(-1)) and top-dressed ammonium nitrate(NH_4NO_3)(60, 120, and 180 kg N ha^(-1)) on corn root length, N uptake, and grain yield. A greenhouse experiment was conducted using undisturbed soil columns collected f.om the f.eld experiment site to evaluate NO_3-N leaching, N uptake, and root length with surf.ce-applied gypsum(0 and 10 Mg ha^(-1)) and top-dressed NH_4NO_3(0 and 180 kg N ha^(-1)). Amelioration of.subsoil acidity due to gypsum application increased corn root growth,N uptake, grain yield, and N use ef.iciency. Applying gypsum to the soil surf.ce increased corn grain yield by 19%–38% and partial f.ctor productivity of.N(Pf.N) by 27%–38%, depending on the N application rate. Results of.the undisturbed soil column greenhouse experiment showed that improvement of.N use ef.iciency by gypsum application was due to the higher N uptake f.om NO_3-N in the subsoil as a result of.increased corn root length. Our results suggest that ameliorating subsoil acidity with gypsum in a no-till corn system could increase N use ef.iciency, improve grain yield, and reduce environmental risks due to NO_3-N leaching.

Nitrogen(N)and potassium(K)are the most required nutrients f.r corn and wheat *** the N application rate usually boosts crop ***,many uncertainties remain f.r K *** def.ciency results in yield losses,but K application rate based on the percentage of.K+in the cation exchange capacity(CEC)is doubtf.l,especially in soil with high CEC.A f.eld trial was conducted to examine the ef.ects of.KCl application bef.re sowing corn and wheat,by raising the percentage of.K+in CEC at pH 7.0(CECpH7.0)to approximately 2.5%,3.5%,and 4.5%,and adding N as a topdressing(75,150,and 225 kg ha-1 to corn and 40,80,and 120 kg ha-1 to wheat)on the nutrition and yield of.corn and wheat under a continuous no-till system(30 years).Exchangeable K+content increased in the topsoil(0–20 cm depth)up to 7.2 mmolc dm-3 af.er K application at the highest rate,which,however,did not result in signif.cant increases in nutrient uptake and yields f.r both corn and *** N application rate positively af.ected the uptake and removal of.all macronutrients by corn and *** N as a topdressing increased yields of.corn and wheat by up to 83%and 22%,*** results suggest that in the soil with a high CECpH7.0(162.1 mmolc dm-3),the recommendation f.r K application made by considering the percentage of.K+in the CECpH7.0 may result in excessive application of.K f.rtilizer to crops with high K-recycling potential grown under a continuous no-till system.

The prostate is an accessory sex gland that develops under precise androgenic control. It is known that hormonal imbalance may disrupt its development predisposing this gland to develop diseases during aging. Although the hypothesis regarding earlier origins of.prostate diseases was proposed many years ago, the mechanisms underlying this complex phenomenon are poorly understood. Theref.re, the aim of.this study was to evaluate the prostates of.old male gerbils exposed to testosterone during intrauterine and postnatal lif. using morphological, biometrical, stereological, Kariometric, immunohistochemical, and immunof.uorescence analyses. Our f.ndings demonstrate that prenatal and pubertal exposure to testosterone increases the susceptibility to the development of.prostate diseases during aging. The presence of.a more prolif.rative gland associated with f.ci of.adenomatous hyperplasia in animals exposed to testosterone during the prenatal and pubertal phase show that the utero lif. and the pubertal period are important phases f.r prostatic morphophysiology establishment, which is a determinant f.r the health of.the gland during aging. Theref.re, these f.ndings reinf.rce the idea that prostate disease may result f.om hormonal disruptions in early events during prostate development, which imprint permanently on the gland predisposing it to develop lesions in later stages of.lif..

One Pr（Ⅲ） lanthanide ion complex was initially synthesized and characterized by TGA-DSC in air atmosphere, as well as characterized by CHN elemental analysis, def.ning the stoichiometric ratio as Pr（DMBz）3. The gaseous products evolved during the thermal decomposition were also monitored in N2 atmosphere employing TGA/f.-IR system. A crystal structure is obtained by state-of.the-art powder X-rays dif.raction methods measured in conventional laboratory equipment and ref.ned by the Rietveld method, which def.ned it as a monoclinic system of.the space group P21/C with a polymeric crystal structure, [Pr（DMBZ）3]n. f.-IR theoretical spectrum and time-dependent density f.nctional theory（TD-Df.） were calculated f.om TGA-DSC and crystalline system data. The experimental and theoretical f.-IR spectra present a high correlation degree when the main stretching bands are compared, while the energy transf.r（HOMO - LUMO） in their neighborhoods suggests the main contributions of.the light-emitting states.

Pharmaceutical co-crystals have been explored by many researchers as a strategy to optimize physicochemical properties of.solid-state *** improvements of.solubility,bioavailability,and the reduced tendency f.r phase transf.rmation occurrence,are f.ctors that highlight benef.ts of.pharmaceutical co-crystals among other solid *** to the Biopharmaceutical Classif.cation System(BCS),non-steroidal anti-inf.ammatory drugs(NSAIDs)are class Ⅱ drugs,which have low aqueous solubility and theref.re co-crystallization has the potential to optimize NSAID product *** this review,we highlight the recent progress made on NSAIDs co-crystals,their co-f.rmers,synthesis,methods and use,while we underline some promising results on in vitro and in vivo co-crystal properties.A celecoxib-tramadol co-crystal reaches phase Ⅲ clinical trials,showing greater analgesic activity than both individual *** aqueous solubility of.the co-crystal f.rmed between l-proline and diclof.nac is very high in comparison with the pure *** co-crystals with urea and thiourea have an increase of.drug release of.almost 60%.Co-crystal design brings a new perspective in drug development since the co-f.rmer used can also be a biologically active component allowing to combine dif.erent anti-inf.ammatory drugs,which have an incredible spectrum of.application due to the analgesic,anti-pyretic and anti-inf.ammatory properties.

Tertiary peritonitis: A disease that should not be ignored

Intra-abdominal inf.ctions can be classif.ed into uncomplicated or complicated(peritonitis). Peritonitis is divided into primary, secondary, and tertiary. Tertiaryperitonitis is the less common but the most severe among peritonitisstratif.cations, being def.ned as a recurrent intra-abdominal inf.ction that occurs48 h af.er a well-succeeded control of.a secondary peritonitis. This disease has acomplex pathogenesis that is closely related to the capacity of.the peritonealcavity to activate immunological processes. Patients who progress to persistentperitonitis are at an increased risk of.developing several inf.ctious complicationssuch as sepsis and multiple organ f.ilure syndrome. Moreover, tertiary peritonitisremains an important cause of.hospital death mainly among patients withassociated risk f.ctors. The microbiological prof.le of.organisms causing tertiaryperitonitis is of.en dif.erent f.om that observed in other types of.peritonitis. Inaddition, there is a high prevalence of.multidrug-resistant pathogens causing thiscondition, and an appropriate and successf.l clinical management depends on anearly diagnosis, which can be made easier with the use of.clinical scorespresenting a good prediction value during the intensive care unit ***, immediate therapy should be perf.rmed to control theinf.ctious f.cus and to prevent new recurrences. In this sense, the treatment isbased on initial antimicrobial therapy and well-perf.rmed peritoneal drainage.

Prediction of.hospital mortality in intensive care unit patients f.om clinical and laboratory data: A machine learning approach

BACKGROUND Esophagitis is an inf.ammatory and damaging process of.the esophageal mucosa,which is conf.rmed by endoscopic visualization and may,in extreme cases,result in stenosis,f.stulization and esophageal *** use of.deep learning(a f.eld of.artif.cial intelligence)techniques can be considered to determine the presence of.esophageal lesions compatible with *** To develop,using transf.r learning,a deep neural network model to recognize the presence of.esophagitis in endoscopic *** Endoscopic images of.1932 patients with a diagnosis of.esophagitis and 1663 patients without any pathological diagnosis provenient f.om the KSAVIR and HyperKSAVIR datasets were splitted in training(80%)and test(20%)and used to develop and evaluate a binary deep learning classif.er built using the DenseNet-201 architecture,a densely connected convolutional network,with weights pretrained on the ImageNet image set and f.ne-tuned during *** classif.er model perf.rmance was evaluated in the test set according to accuracy,sensitivity,specif.city and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC).RESULTS The model was trained using Adam optimizer with a learning rate of.0.0001 and applying binary cross entropy loss *** the test set(n=719),the classif.er achieved 93.32%accuracy,93.18%sensitivity,93.46%specif.city and a 0.96 *** f.r spatial predictive relevance in esophagitis endoscopic images f.om the test set were also *** f.ce of.the obtained results,the use of.dense convolutional neural networks with pretrained and f.ne-tuned weights proves to be a good strategy f.r predictive modeling f.r esophagitis recognition in endoscopic *** addition,adopting the classif.cation approach combined with the subsequent plotting of.heat maps associated with the classif.catory decision gives greater explainability to the *** It is opportune to raise new studies involving transf.r learning f.r the analysis of.en
