Cytomegalovirus is the most frequent agent of congenital viral infections,affecting approximately 0.2%-2.4%of live births in different countries[1-7].Universal screening for congenital cytomegalovirus infection in newborns is not a standard practice considering cost-benefit issues and viabil-ity of diagnostic ***,most newborns are asympto-matic and there is no effective treatment for this population[2-5].

Adult hippocampal neurogenesis is a finely tuned process regulated by extrinsic factors. Neuroinflammation is a hallmark of several pathological conditions underlying dysregulation of neurogenesis. In animal models, lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced neuroinflammation leads to a neurogenic decrease mainly associated to the early inflammatory response. However, it is not well understood how the neuroinflammatory response progresses over time and if neurogenesis continues to be diminished during the late neuroinflammatory response. Moreover, it is unknown if repeated intermittent administration of LPS along time induces a greater reduction in neurogenesis. We administered one single intraperitoneal injection of LPS or saline or four repeated injections(one per week) of LPS or saline to young-adult mice. A cohort of new cells was labeled with three 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine injections(one per day) 4 days after the last LPS injection. We evaluated systemic and neuroinflammation-associated parameters and compared the effects of the late neuroinflammatory response on neurogenesis induced by each protocol. Our results show that 1) a single LPS injection leads to a late pro-inflammatory response characterized by microglial activation, moderate astrocytic reaction and increased interleukin-6 levels. This response correlates in time with decreased neurogenesis and 2) a repeated intermittent injection of LPS does not elicit a late pro-inflammatory response although activated microglia persists. The latter profile is not accompanied by a continued longterm hippocampal neurogenic decrease. Hereby, we provide evidence that the neuroinflammatory response is a dynamic process that progresses in a milieu-dependent manner and does not necessarily lead to a neurogenic decrease, highlighting the complex interaction between the immune system and neurogenesis.

One major difficulty in the application of distributed hydrological models is the availability of data with sufficient quantity and quality to perform an adequate evaluation of a watershed and to capture its *** Soil&Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)was used in this study to analyze the hydrologic responses to different sources,spatial scales,and temporal resolutions of weather inputs for the semi-arid Jaguaribe watershed(73000 km2)in northeastern *** different simulations were conducted,based on four groups of weather and precipitation inputs:Group 1-SWAT Weather Generator based on monthly data from four airport weather stations and daily data based on 124 local rain gauges;Group 2-daily local data from 14 weather stations and 124 precipitation gauges;Group 3-Daily values from a global coupled forecast model(NOAA’s Climate Forecast System Reanalysis-CFSR);and Group 4-CFSR data with 124 local precipitation *** four simulations were evaluated using multiple statistical efficiency metrics for four streamflow gauges,using:Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient(NSe),determination coefficient(R2),the ratio of the root mean square to the standard deviation of the observed data(RSR),and the percent bias(PBIAS).The Group 4 simulation performed best overall(provided the best statistical values)with results ranked as“good”or“very good”on all four efficiency metrics suggesting that using CFSR data for weather parameters other than precipitation,coupled with precipitation data from local rain gauges,can provide reasonable hydrologic *** second best results were obtained with Group 1,which provided“good”results in three of four efficiency *** 2 performed worse overall than Groups 1 and 4,probably due to uncertainty related to daily measures and a large percentage of missing *** 2 and 3 were“unsatisfactory”according to three or four of the efficiency metrics,indicating that the choice of weather data is very important.

Background:Since 2015,the Global Technical Strategy(GTS)for Malaria 2016–2030 has been adopted by the World Health Organization(WHO)as a comprehensive framework to accelerate progress for malaria elimination in endemic *** strategy sets the target of reducing global malaria incidence and mortality rates by 90% in *** it is sought to evaluate Brazil’s achievements towards reaching the WHO GTS milestone in *** the total number of new malaria cases in 2015,the main research question is:will Brazil reach the malaria elimination goal in 2030?Methods:Analytical strategies were undertaken using the SIVeP-malaria ofcial databases of the Brazilian Malaria Control Programme for the Brazilian Amazon region from 2009 to *** and time-series analyses were applied for identifying municipalities that support the highest numbers of malaria cases over the *** analysis was used for predicting the estimated number of new cases in Brazil in 2025–***:Brazil has signifcantly reduced the number of new malaria cases in 2020 in comparison with 2015 in the states of Acre(−56%),Amapá(−75%),and Amazonas(−21%);however,they increased in the states of Pará(156%),Rondônia(74%),and Roraima(362%).Forecast of the predicted number of new malaria cases in 2030 is 74,764(95%CI:41,116–141,160)in the Brazilian ***:It is likely that Brazil will reduce the number of new malaria cases in the Brazilian Amazon in 2030 in relation to that in *** forecast shows a reduction by 46%(74,754 in 2030 forecast/137,982 in 2015),but this reduction is yet far from the proposed reduction under the WHO GTS 2030 milestone(90%).Stable and unbeatable transmission in the Juruá River Valley,Manaus,and Lábrea still support endemic malaria in the Brazilian ***’s cross-border malaria is impacting the state of Roraima *** this situation is maintained,the malaria elimination goal(zero cases)may not be reached before *** enhanced

ecosystem services(eS)delivery in quantity and quality are essential to improve human ***,often a considerable part of eS provisioning depends on the use of private land(e.g.,flood retention,carbon sequestration,water purification).In this context,the operationalization and implementation of eS concept may collide with legal property ***,it is essential to find constructive mechanisms to engage and encour-age private owners to implement sustainable land uses to reduce the onsite and offsite impacts of their *** paper aims to identify if eS delivery can be constrained by legal private land and how it can be *** is undeniable that land-use changes(e.g.,urbanization,agriculture intensification,and land abandonment)affect the territory’s capacity to deliver eS in quality and *** changes,especially land abandonment,are in-creasing the tradeoffs among eS(e.g.,between carbon sequestration and water yield).Land-use planning should consider these ***,incorporating eS into spatial plans is crucial for stakeholders to understand the impacts of land-use change in the loss of eS *** information can be transmitted through maps that communicate the message in a simplified *** owners can easily perceive the eS relevance that their land can provide if an understandable message is *** this can be a good solution,conflicts can appear even with the implementation of schemes such as Payment for eS(PeS).PeS is not always effective and can im-pose losses to farmers,disregard their cultural traditions,or not prevent poverty *** this context,it is crucial to consider local specificities to safeguard PeS’s success,create a“win-win”and transform a problem into a *** owners’active participation in implementing sustainable practices or a determined land-use in their properties is vital to achieving global targets such as sustainable development goals.

S53G SNP in Cathepsin B: Can Be Used as a Molecular Biomarker to Breast Cancer?

Cathepsin B (CTS B) is a proteolytic enzyme that participates in several important biological processes. However, when it is altered can be involved in development of breast cancer, a disease with high incidence and mortality rate among women. Many studies have shown a correlation between high CTS B expression and breast tumor. Furthermore, it has been shown that the SNP rs1803250 (S53G) leads to structural and functional changes in protein that can make it pathogenic. The present study aimed to evaluate a possible association of SNP rs1803250 (S53G) with breast cancer. For this, real-time PCR was performed on a sample collected in the State of Pará, with 127 patients and 122 controls. The SNP frequency in this region was 0.12, according to a research project in progress that aims to identify Amerindians molecular alterations. This indicates that the SNP is found in region with a distribution close to worldwide frequency of 0.09. Our results showed that the SNP was in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in collected sample, but C variant allelic frequency was 0.08 in both patients and control groups, which is extremely similar to global average. Moreover, homozygotes CC was not found in the sample and SNP genotypes frequency in patients and control groups was not significantly different. In addition, statistical analysis showed that the SNP did not have to correlate with tumor subtypes nor with tumor staging. Therefore, according to the analyzed sample, the SNP rs1803250 has no association with breast cancer and it cannot be considered a molecular biomarker for breast cancer.

Background:In January 2005,Rasulov et *** published"First experience in the use of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)for the treatment of a patient with deep skin burns".Here,we present the first ever treated patient with cadaveric bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(CMSCs)in the history of ***:A young man,who severely burned 60%of his total body surface with 30%of full-thickness burns while working with a grass trimmer that exploded,was involved in the *** were obtained from the bone marrow of a cadaver donor in a routine procurement procedure of CUCAIBA,the Province of Buenos Aires,Argentina,Ministry of Health,Transplantation Agency,cultured,expanded,and applied on the burned surfaces using a fibrin spray after early ***:So far,our preliminary experience and our early results have been very impressive showing an outstanding safety data as well as some impressive good results in the use of ***:Based on al this,we think that improvements in the use of stem cells for burns might be possible in the near future and a lot of time as well as many lives could be saved by many other research teams all over the *** will probably be a real scientific opportunity in Regenerative Medicine as well as in Transplantation.
