Effects of left ventricular assist device on pulmonary functions and pulmonary hemodynamics:A meta-analysis

BAcKGROUND Given current evidence,the effect of left ventricular assist device(LVAD)implantation on pulmonary function tests remains *** To better understand the factors contributing to the changes seen on pulmonary function testing and the correlation with pulmonary hemodynamics after LVAD *** Electronic databases were queried to identify relevant *** summary effect size was estimated as a difference of overall means and standard deviation on a random-effects *** A total of four studies comprising 219 patients were *** overall mean forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1),forced vital capacity(FVc)and diffusion lung capacity of carbon monoxide(DLcO)after LVAD implantation were significantly lower by 0.23 L(95%cI:0.11-0.34,P=00002),0.18 L(95%cI:0.03-0.34,P=0.02),and 3.16 mmol/min(95%cI:2.17-4.14,Pcardiac index was significantly higher by 0.49 L/min/m2(95%cI:0.31-0.66,Pcompared to pre-LVAD *** pulmonary capillary wedge pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance were significantly reduced after LVAD implantation by 8.56 mmHg(95%cI:3.78-13.35,P=0.0004),and 0.83 Woods U(95%cI:0.11-1.55,P=0.02),*** was no significant difference observed in the right atrial pressure after LVAD implantation(0.61 mmHg,95%cI:-2.00 to 3.32,P=0.65).Overall findings appear to be driven by studies using HeartMateII *** LVAD implantation might be associated with a significant reduction of the spirometric measures,including FEV1,FVc,and DLcO,and an overall improvement of pulmonary hemodynamics.

Evidence for maternal transmission of a putative endosymbiont in the digestive gland of Pomacea canaliculata(Architaenioglossa,Ampullariidae)

The digestive gland of the apple snail Pomacea canaliculata lodges two types of pigmented corpuscles(identified as c and K corpuscles)which has been proposed as endosymbiont/*** corpuscular types are always present in the digestive gland of adult snails,they are released into the tubuloacinar lumen and are later expelled in the *** their part,hatchlings lack any c or K corpuscles in the digestive gland as well as in their feces,whereas c corpuscles appear in both the gland and feces within one week after ***,it is possible that the detritivorous hatchlings acquire the putative c-endosymbiont from feces in the sediments where they live,***‘lateral’or‘horizontal’*** possibility was put to test in an experiment in which we prevented any lateral transmission,by a 7-days aseptic culture,with no food,of aseptically obtained *** the end of the experiment,we observed that most juveniles had survived the culture period,and hence the digestive glands and feces of survivors were studied by light microscopy of resin embedded,toluidine blue-stained *** studied glands and fecal samples showed c *** is concluded that lateral transmission of the endosymbiont,if any,is not indispensable for the acquisition of the endosymbiont by hatchlings.

Optimal configuration problem identification of electrical power cable in tidal turbine farm via traveling salesman problem modeling approach

Electrical power cables in tidal turbine farms contribute a significant share to capital expenditure(cAPEX). As a result, the routing of electrical power cables connecting turbines to cable collector hubs must be designed so as to obtain the least cost *** is referred to as a tidal cable routing problem. This problem possesses several variants depending on the number of cable collector hubs. In this paper, these variants are modeled by employing the approach of the single depot multiple traveling salesman problem(mTSP) and the multiple depot mTSP of operational research for the single and multiple cable collector variants, respectively. The developed optimization models are computationally implemented using MATLAB. In the triple cable collector cable hub variant, an optimal solution is obtained, while good-quality suboptimal solutions are obtained in the double and single cable collector hub variants. In practice,multiple cable collector hubs are expected to be employed as the multiple-hub configurations tend to be more economic than the single-hub *** has been confirmed by this paper for an optimal tidal turbine layout obtained with OpenTidalFarm. Suggestions are presented for future research studies comprising a number of heuristics.

A computer vision system for early detection of anthracnose in sugar mango(Mangifera indica)based on UV-A illumination

The present work describes the development of a computer vision system for the early detection of anthracnose in sugar mango based on Ultraviolet A illumination(UV-A).Anthracnose,a disease caused by the fungus colletotrichum sp,is commonly found in the fruit of sugar mango(Mangifera indica).It manifests as surface defects including black spots and is responsible for reducing the quality of the ***,it decreases its commercial *** more detail,this study poses a system that begins with image acquisition under white and ultraviolet ***,it proposes to analyze the Red,Green and Blue color information(R,G,B)of the pixels under two types of illumination,using four different methods:RGB-threshold,RGB-Linear Discriminant Analysis(RGBLDA),UV-LDA,and *** analysis produces an early semantic segmentation of healthy and diseased areas of the mango *** results showed that the combination of the linear discriminant analysis(LDA)and UV-A light(called UV-LDA method)in sugar mango images allows early detection of ***,this method achieves the identification of the disease one day earlier than by an expert with respect to the scale of anthracnose severity implemented in this work.

Overweight and obesity has more than doubled in the last 30 years, affecting people worldwide and bringing a high morbidity, mortality, and cost of treatment of obesity-related diseases[1-2]. Bariatric surgery has been the most effective way for morbidly obese patients, with a longstanding weight loss and improvement or resolution of comorbidities, which is clearly better in comparison with clinical management[3-6]. Over the last decades, there have been several technical options to treat morbid obesity surgically, and the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) has survived the time sieve and be considered as referral procedure.

Effect of a bacterial inoculum and additive on dry matter in situ degradability of sugarcane silage

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding a bacterial inoculum and a handmade additive to sugarcane silage（ScS） on the in situ digestibility of dry matter（DM）. The treatments were： T1） sugarcane silage（ScS） and T2） sugarcane silage with 1% inoculum and 1% additive（ScS＋）. The bacterial inoculum consisted of 10.0% molasses, 1.0% yogurt, 5.0% chicken manure, 0.5% urea, and 83.0% water, and the additive was formulated with 1.0% urea, 0.1% ammonium sulfate, and 0.25% phosphorus. In situ dry matter digestibility（DMD） was determined using the nylon bag technique with four cows equipped with ruminal fistulas. cows were fed with ensiled sugarcane supplemented with 1 kg of commercial concentrate. 5 g of ground sample for each sugarcane treatment were weighted in nylon bags and incubated for 4, 8, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h in a completely randomized design with six replicates. The DMD（%） was higher（P〈0.05） for ScS＋ for all incubation times when compared with ScS. There were no differences in ruminal p H between the treatments for all the incubation times. The data suggested that the sugarcane silage with bacterial inoculum and additive could be an alternative for providing forage for ruminants during the season of low growth and quality grass.
